I'm back and I want to play, but...not as Morden, because Morden's not Morden unless he's wreaking havoc, and not a good kind of havoc. There's nobody here whose lives I want to try to mess up, frankly. (Tom and Door especially are just too adorable, even though Morden hates to see a good Evil Dark Lord get away.) (I'm going to have to turn in my villain license, I just know it.) The "No Professional Activities in the Bar" thing is problematic, too, because the guy is the job, pretty much.

So. If anybody wants a slightly used Shadow minion, he's yours for the taking. I know Delenn's around here now, and *somebody* needs to snark at her. :)

OK, so I want a character I know well, who's not dead and can come and go, and who can actually have conversations and *drink* for crying out loud. Is there room in the bar for one more attempting-to-reform bad guy? Because I'd like to bring in Andrej Koscuisko from Susan R. Matthews' Jurisdiction novels. There's a guy who will LOVE the "No professional activities in the bar" thing. Anybody know those books? Anybody object to the character?
(I'll explain why there might be objections, if people want to know.)

Let me know (either here or at medleyf (@) yahoo (.) com) if anyone wants to play Morden or *doesn't* want me to ask to play Andrej. Trust me, he will not bring his work to Milliways.

Why would there be objections to this Andrej fellow?

Andrej is Chief Medical Officer and Ship's Surgeon in a star fleet governed by a fairly totalitarian regime. He is an excellent and empathetic doctor, and he treats the people who work for him with respect. He's a decent guy, or he would be if he'd never joined the fleet. The problem is that part of his job is Inquiry, which is a formalized system of interrogation and punishment regarding crimes comitted against Jurisdiction. Andrej would put it more bluntly: he's tortured people. Lots of them. And he doesn't exactly hate it while he's doing it. The self-loathing part comes afterward, and there's lots of it. He's just never been able to see a way out of it (for complicated cultural reasons) until the last book, when he finally decided that it *had* to stop. It means going against his entire culture. I figured he could use some Milliways moral support. :)

So why do I like this guy? He's a very complex character; there is so much decency in *most* of what he does, and he never tries to rationalize the monstrous stuff. He really doesn't think he can ever atone for the things he's done, but he's determined not to do them anymore. He's genuinely charming, he's got a sense of humor, and I'm betting that he can drink anybody mortal under the table. :)

Well, speaking as someone who plays a demon, I think it'd be a bit hypocritical of me to refuse a character like that. :D

LOL! Well, you and I talked about it a *long* time ago, if you recall. Not that I thought Morden would actually *get* anywhere trying to lure you back to the dark side. But now I can't even think about trying because of the adorableness. :)

But wah, I just read your post correctly and you're not wanting to play Morden. Someone needs to, though. *pouts*
