Good morning, Milliways!

I've got to run to breakfast, but I thought I'd get you lot started before I head out. We've had a lot of discussions about music and pups, but what I want to know today is:

What kind of music does your pup like listening to? Do they have a favorite song? What is it, and why?

Okay, I'm off! I'll answer for my own as soon as I'm done eating. Have a great day everyone!

I haven't really tried to imagine the music of the 23rd century, but if Mel were a 21st century girl, she'd probably be a hardcore fan. Something urban, slightly underground and more about the music than the manufactured bands making it in the Uppers.

When an adult, Dinah willl canonically like the White Stripes. I don't know really what this means for the teenager, but I think she's a fan of garage rock.

Karolina likes folk bands. She's probably as big an Ani DiFranco fan as I am.

Gordon's fond of They Might Be Giants and a couple of other nerdy bands, and at least a few bands like Me First And The Gimme Gimmes, who do 'punk' covers of regular rock songs that're about as punk as James Taylor. He's also deeply fond of country music, but the only person who knows that is Alyx, and that's because she asked the Bar to help her find music Gordon'd like.

Billy's big into independent/underground rock, specifically Mutant stuff before, well, Wanda made mutants go boom. He's got a lot of CDs off ebay and such of bands that no longer exist because Mutanttown is gone. Um-um-um, otherwise he listens to mostly electronica and techno. Also the Beatles! He's wearing a shirt that says "bleu" with some Asian-ish writing at the end of the first volume, and a logo, but I have no idea who/what it is.

Steve? Likes Jazz. He and Arnold should bond about that some day.

[identity profile] heyfootballhead.livejournal.com 2008-10-22 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
They definitely should. Let do ittttt :D

Arnold likes smooth jazz. Smooth jazz smooth jazz smooth jazz. He doesn't have a favorite song, but he listens to the radio station MJZZ pretty often.

Viscen's favorite band is the Indi-Go-Go's. They're Zoras, they play a weird mixture of pop/jazz/big band. Look'em up on youtube if you think that sounds interesting, because I'm too lazy to find a link. *shifty eyes*

My pup John played jazz trumpet, and has been thinking of picking it up again. Milliways jazz-off, y/n?

IZ JUST CONFUSED JAZZ

[identity profile] alt-hulk.livejournal.com 2008-10-22 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
John plays jazz trumpet. Whoo. I know very little jazz, sadly, although I listened to it a lot in Bio classes, so I need to read up on that front.

Barney played bass guitar in a ZZ Top-clone band in high school, so I figure he'd like any bad that combines that mix of hard rock and funk--Steve Miller Band, ELO, Bad Company, and Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band are all likely favorites. (Aka, my childhood. Shhh.)

Teddy? loves rap (http://alt-hulk.livejournal.com/2674.html) (no. 2). Old school, 90s hip-hop, and nerdcore, to be specific. He won't listen to ghetto rap, though. Other than that, he probably listens to a little bit of everything: probably like generico rock and DragonForce, and also a wee bit of trance, because what good geek doesn't.

The Heavy likes any Russian/Eastern classical music and folk tunes, so likely anything by Mussorgsky, Tchaikovsky... any of The Five (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Five), actually. Dvorak maybe not so much, but since most of his pieces were based off Russian folk tunes, it's likely okay. It's not like music was ever a big deal in his life, but his mom would hum things, and if he heard their work, he'd likely recognize it.

(In case people are wondering, I don't do DE for Chell because she just hasn't done enough in the real world to develop tastes and things.)

[identity profile] bluespells.livejournal.com 2008-10-22 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Billy sighes exaggeratedly at Teddy's taste in music.

<3 But I love him for it.

[identity profile] alt-hulk.livejournal.com 2008-10-22 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude, I should totally have Teddy compose a birthday wrap for Billy and shock the hell out of him.

Teddy could totally say, oh, it's just a skill I picked up at Peace Camp or something. >

BWAH. Billy would start looking around for the evil karaoke machine.

...there was completely a gay rap song at the end of chuck and larry. TO THE YOUTUBES.

Hawkgirl has five thousand years worth of memories of music to choose from. She canonically has very eclectic taste because of this. She loves everything from early medieval religious music to ancient music to electronica to The New Puritans to Metric to Brazilian funk to Malice Mizer to EMACM (Malaysian!). Ancient music is tough, because she only has her memories of Egypt to go on, as no one in the modern era has ever really been able to reconstruct with accuracy what music sounded like in the classical world, so she pines for the music of her childhood but only hears it in her dreams. But Kendra is a voracious consumer of music of all stripes, varieties, and permutations, so she regularly crashes her iPods after overloading them with music. (I was just thinking when I got up this morning how much Kendra would love this hypnotic live version of Rock Me Now as performed by Metric. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2S3LIszbcg4))

She still has that iPod loaded with music for Milliways!Clark to sample and enjoy.

She-Hulk canonically also has really diverse taste in music, but she's more of a consumer of everything pop culture has to offer. She adores karaoke and can outsing anyone in a karaoke competition. Power ballads? Check. Big hair metal? Check. Slinky soul? Check. You name it, she likes it, and she'll eventually try her hand at it at Planet Rose or Tinga Tinga.

Lockjaw likes classical when it's not played too loudly. But it's Inhuman classical, which is composed using for ears that can hear things normal baseline humans can't.

[identity profile] feminine-menace.livejournal.com 2008-10-22 02:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Canonically, YT likes a type of music called nuclear fuzz grunge. Her favorite band is Vitaly Chernobyl and the Meltdowns. I've posted her listening to their hit "My Heart Is A Smoking Hole In The Ground" a few times.

[identity profile] leeshajoy.livejournal.com 2008-10-22 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Bob likes classic rock, cheesy stadium rock, and basically anything that involves wicked awesome guitar solos.

Dominic, canonically, favors classical music.

Artie has been described as having "hella weird taste in music." In Millicanon he's fond of the work of Jonathan Coulton. (http://www.jonathancoulton.com/)

Alyx is still getting a feel for what she does and doesn't like in music. Her headvoice has informed me that she likes Paul Simon, swing jazz and gospel. Go figure.

[identity profile] buongiornodaisy.livejournal.com 2008-10-22 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Juliet canonically loves opera.

Charlotte, I imagine, loves rock music.

Ben's been shown thus far to listen to classical music, though, in "The Other Woman", it was obvious he was playing opera music to impress Juliet. We did catch him playing a Rachmaninoff piece on piano. I suspect his musical tastes go a bit beyond classical, though.

Mario...um...likes video game music??

[identity profile] heyfootballhead.livejournal.com 2008-10-22 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Obviously Mario is a fan of the accordion and/or keyboards.

Teja canonically makes music -- so his interest in music is great, and he adopted modern habits and modern taste pretty soon. His taste is eclectic, though, as he sticks to what friends introduced him to since his arrival in Milliways: he likes baroque music (AKA 'music from Tonio's time'), jazz (which Yrael introduced him to in New Orleans) classical symphonic music (the sort he listened to with Asher in St. Louis) and the kind you might call symphonic or melodic metal ('Toki Wartooth's kind of music'). In addition to that, he's got something of an overview over the history of recorded music, and picks and chooses from that; I had him play things like 'Stairway To Heaven' or Jethro Tull's 'Cup Of Wonder' to people at times.-

Oh yes, and with his well-trained skald's memory, he easily remembers songs and plays them if he likes them and they can be done with harp or guitar, and one singing voice.

[identity profile] candied-rabbit.livejournal.com 2008-10-22 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Momiji is a big music nerd, all around, and his tastes are really eclectic. He <3's classical music and opera, but most people are probably more likely to stumble across him listening to Japanese pop music. And singing along in that high-pitched voice of his.

....I'm actually not sure about most of my others. Aschenbach would probably be up for classical, too, though.

[identity profile] rowanberries.livejournal.com 2008-10-22 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Havelock canonically prefers music that doesn't get played.

He reads it for pleasure, however, so he apparently does like it!

Will likes music that's light and good for dancing and he always approves of any songs that are fun. I think he really hasn't investigated modern music a lot but I can see him liking country not the pop country but country, country.

Demeter I think is rather easy to please with music, if it makes you feel warm and happy she's good.

The Pirate King of course loves Gilbert and Sullivan!

I'm not really sure about Tumnus since he really hasn't experienced a lot of modern things. Also I have a plan to move him forward in time a bit so he's a lot less shy.

[identity profile] prob-japanese.livejournal.com 2008-10-22 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Bumblebee will listen to any Earth music at all, in any language, and probably keep a copy of it for future use. Just in case. That being said, despite ultimately winding up in America, he has a great deal of fondness for Anita Mui's songs.
a1enzo: (guitar)

[personal profile] a1enzo 2008-10-22 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I've actually had some trouble with this. Enzo is interested in User music in general, but in his home 'verse, I'm inclined to say his taste is similar to Bob's, particularly the part about wicked awesome guitar solos. And we've established that he is a fan of the RAMones.

I think we need to work this out between him and Matrix. Tiger? Any thoughts?

The Revenant has pretty broad tastes; canonically, he is known to like Cat Stevens.

ETA: Okay, after consultation, and recalling some details from Talent Night: Enzo's preference is for hard rock, ranging into punk and metal. He isn't averse to some more mellow stuff, including oldies and jazz, but on a more selective basis.

Oh, and Dani got him into the band Dumpty Humpty from her world, but he can't listen to them at home if he doesn't want people to ask questions.

Tyler's canonically a big fan of Weird Al Yankovich music (what kid isn't?) and as he grows up, is going to get exposed to a lot of brit rock and ska music. By the time he gets the phonecall from himself again, he'll have a library devoted to The Who, Supertramp, The Eagles, and Queen.

Dot's tastes vary, but she's a fan of jazz with vocals lately. In her younger days she was an 80's punk rocker, and obviously, still does the vocals to cover for Bob's lack of ability to sing. ...She does NOT like breakdance music. At all.

Hack and Slash... they've got some musical tastes, mostly in the rock section. So long as it has a wicked loud drum-set to it, they like it.

Mother listens to mainly folk music, although there are a few exceptions.

Kit listens to the police radio more often than not, but the few times she has had an enjoyable musical experience, it's usually been in the veins of what we call classic jazz, big band, and Torch music. She hasn't investigated future musical trends yet. ...perhaps I should rememdy that.

Due to the 1998 Intergalactic Treaty of Blake Sennett (nee Swendson), Tommy is contractually obligated to like all songs by the bands Rilo Kiley and The Elected. However, he is free to feel as he wishes about Jenny Lewis and The Watson Twins.

[identity profile] cloakitwithplot.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Demyx likes everything. Yes, everything, as long as there was emotion put into it.

Fakir likes classical symphonies, ballet music. It's what he hears most often, anyway.

Hatsuharu likes hard rock/punk.

Zexion doesn't care for music either way. When he was Ienzo he liked jazz and soul

Tom doesn't listen to music! He doesn't mind it, nor does he actively dislike it, but he doesn't listen to it.

Bela likes music without words. Techno or classical, depending on her mood.

Ingress will grow up in a world with no radios or CD players, but she'll like the folk music of her world. Right now she'll bop along to the Weird Sisters CD Tonks gave her a long time ago.

Mojo Jojo likes cool jazz. :-P
