A meme from Veronica:
1. People comment with the names of their characters.
2. Others reply to those comments with the names of characters of theirs who have threaded with them.
3. The first person goes back, and replies with at least one thing they enjoy about the thread(s) they've had with those characters.

Also, ed and Yuna, just because it's always interesting to hear stuff from Ed's giant fish perspective, y'know?

I will make X-Rose discussion ALSO about X-Susannah, and that way we will abide by the rules. I think one of the things I like about both X-Rose and X-Susannah is that--X has no real context for what a mother is supposed to DO. So she doesn't really have a clear sense of Susannah as attached to Rose. Not really. She approaches them both separately, they are their own people, and the kin-ties just--don't register. And I like what that does to their dynamic, and I think it explains how she can be friends with both of them and not really feel a conflict or like she's stuck in the middle. As for Rose--I think they are another case of ships passing in the night. X is learning to be a 'real' or 'normal' person, as much as she can be, and Rose is learning to be a gunslinger, which isn't the same thing as a weapon, but similar enough. I think X is often bewildered by the value judgments Rose places on things, and by the fact that she is not yet ruthlessly pragmatic and that she CAN get distracted by boys and school and friends and unfairness (see the Helen Conversation). It's not that she thinks Rose is incapable, just young. And distracted. *wry*

Rose does not get X-23 at all, but she just doesn't care. She's not a big picture person, she operates on instinct and intuition a lot of the time, and she likes X-23, which she assumes will be enough; and she has enough egotism to ride right over the confused or stalled out moments. You can see that when X-23 first came to stay and Rose was feeling less secure--their conversation was very stilted and dead-ended at first. Susannah tends to listen hard to X-23 and sort slowly through each miscommunication, but Rose just rockets ahead and counts on X-23 to keep up.
Also she's insanely jealous of some things about X-23 and wouldn't want some other things about X-23 at any cost, which makes her conflicted, and also X-23 is hot. But the great thing about operating on intuition and instinct is that she never has to stop and deal with any of that!

(Emmy is Cuthbert, natch.)

OH MY GOD. *cough*
That is pretty damn hilarious.
*eyes X and Wolverine, and replaces Cuthbert with Logan in DT*
*for shits and giggles*
Randomly, I think another thing I like about X--that makes her interesting, is she has this bizarre purity of purpose. For all her uncertainty about EVERYTHING ELSE, she knows what she's for. Esther and I talked once about what a picture (painted by Joshua from Dark Angel, he does abstracts and one is of 494) of her would look like. It's a white canvas with one stripe of brilliant bright blue. Her focus is much less spread out than Susannah's or Rose's,I think. I find that interesting.

Rose is legitimately very complicated and very confused.

But with the Susannah thing--X does not get mental static. She's not capable of it. Yet. Maybe one day.
Rose's life is hard.
(Cutting back to earlier, I still REALLY love the whole Yuna-Ed sending on thing. That was the best way for him to go that I could ever have imagined. Rock.)

...and per our other thread of discussion, she has taught it to Rose accidentally. High-five myself for consistency.

*pats*
Yeah. I try to imagine X learning to compartmentalize and--it ain't gonna happen. She is always the weapon. Sometimes she can be Laura, too, but--the weapon part isn't going anywhere.
I kind of like that, too.

Also, heh. At least you were prepared! Ish.

Oh my god that is PRICELESS and I will be giggling over this one for a good while now.
Particularly because, at least looking on from my outside perspective, you are not wrong.
