Hhhhhokay, so. Here's the Earth Eddie Dean's little black book of invented Milliways cocktails.

I have linked this before. I am linking this again. Why? Because when people mention, even in passing, anything I have created, it gives me a little ego-glow, and I want to encourage that. Frankly, I'm a pretty pathetic human being, but there you have it.

Oh right. Also because we have a lot of new and volunteer 'tenders these days, and they may not know that this resource is behind the bar with all the other books of cocktail recipes your character may be drawing on. It probably has witty and obscene commentary by Eddie Dean on how he invented the drinks and the people he invented them for, too.

Also, so that this post is not for nothing, what do you want to remind people about in the bar? Not that anyone has to acknowledge anything--consensual geography, best thing ever--but what has your character built or established or left behind that new people may not know about and even oldbies may have missed? Post it here so people can feel free to notice it later.

In addition to the Little Black Book, after the Dean left, Bernard hung a little circle of glass from their door over the bar; it's a scale-model of the rose window at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, and when the light comes in right from the lake it should be pretty gorgeous.

I know there are lots more! Who can remember what the shrine to Sirius and Kassandra looks like? Trilobites? Hmm?

Whistler from Sneakers created a sound system. It is not a radio station and it does not broadcast to the rooms- it plays CDs to the main bar and it kicks much ass. It is controlled from behind the Bar, or by means of a remote control that Whistler opted to keep in case someone got obnoxious. (The remote has, among other things, a button labeled 'Wagner' in Braille. And one labeled 'Orff'.)

Harry Wells hung a heavy punching bag from one of the stouter trees outside, for much beating.

*thoughtful* I don't think I've ever established anything except that there's at least one rock by the lake that has a more-than-passing resemblance to the star-watching rock in the Murry family orchard.

What are the detais of the stuff hanging behind the bar? I remember a bright-yellow bra and a wizarding photograph of Roland dipping (snogging?) Tonks.

There's a swing out back that Kaylee built -- one of the bench ones. It's painted white (and needs a new coat of paint by this point) with curlicued vines and flowers running up the supports.

This is Swing 2.0, because somebody mean torched the first one.

It's not exactly part of the bar, but I think it's in the spirit of this post. Amy wound up with one of the pendants from the Academy plot -- which predates both her and my time here. (It's one of those convoluted Milliways things -- Sheemie gave it to Caspian when he left, Caspian lent it to Meg Giry for her visit to Ambergeldar, and Meg returned it to Amy after the Narnians departed.) She put it safely away, and both she and I figure they'll be need of it eventually. Or not.

[personal profile] a1enzo 2009-01-13 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Enzo and Tyler (with help from some others) built a pretty awesome treefort in a clearing in the woods. It has a crow's nest and a drawbridge of some kind and the Tireswing of Testosterone, constructed from a tractor tire and a length of heavy chain. It's now supposed to be Disputed Territory between boys and girls, but no one seems to be doing anything with it, after we went to all that trouble to set it up. *sob*

Enzo and Belar put in a jetball court. The door is upstairs, approximately wherever other non-bedroom upstairs doors are, and is circular and slightly convex, as though it were sliced off the side of a very large sphere, because that's what the room is. (The door is halfway up the side of the room. Have your jetpack turned on when you enter.)

I can probably tell you this one, because it's indirectly Enzo's fault if not his actual creation: Hexadecimal has made her new Lair on the grounds, in the form of a 200-foot-tall daisy. I believe there's a spiral staircase made of vines running up the outside of the stem, for visitor access. I would think Hex has finished constructing the Hedge Maze of Chaotic Doom around the Daisy, but obviously I can't swear to that; mun confirmation, please?

[identity profile] elffreaky.livejournal.com 2009-01-13 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I should finish that. School ate my soul. But yes the Daisy is still there and I guess the maze is full grown. At one point I asked the mun that had the caves if Hex could have a portal from the Maze to the caves and it was a yes. Oh and there are portals to her lair, to the middle, and to the outside of the maze. And yes, they are marked. Mike made sure of that. Apparently, Hex can't be as mean as she wants to be. So, if you ever want to deal with the ever changing maze. Just drop bye.

*yawns* I think I need to eat some food.

I do remember the neon-yellow bra hung up over the bar... the trilobite tank with its curious squid by the fireplace... the tiny rainbow fishes that Del made to swim in the fireplace...

For years now, there's been a small, green-and-gold harpsichord belonging to Yrael behind/beside the current bar piano. The original piano was burned for a lark way back when, as Hannibal and Yrael decided that it was dead, then replaced by a lacquered white one that they later put together themselves. Also, on the far side of the lake, there's a patch of wild catnip, growing at the edge of the forest. Yrael has been trying to get rid of it for a long time, but somehow it never works. :3

He still sleeps in the greek chiton-lined box Kassandra made for him, in the corridor leading to the staff wing. His other belongings are stored in the room that Svava gave him the key to, so the corridor isn't blocked by stuff.

Asar-Suti conjured the trilobites after he'd found a fossilised one by the lake; and then Eska conjured the curious squid. There are two kinds of trilobites: a shoal of little spiny one, and one slow brown bottom feeder. The trilobite tank sits on a chest near the fireplace, and the chest has at least one drawer with trilobite and squid food in.

Asar-Suti also planted the garden outside the back door, and established the magical library upstairs in room 79i -- not 88, because Eska, as a Discworld wizard, couldn't say that number.

The forge was there long before Teja came; Gimli built it originally, and it was Will Turner's for a while in-between. But Teja found a little clearing in the woody part of the grounds, with a pond in the middle where there are red water lilies in summer. He keeps going there sometimes (but not in winter, when everything is cold and the pond is frozen).

I've never been clear on how the range in the back got started but I know that one of the things that Will does is make sure that the archery targets are always in good form. Its kind of leftover of his being a squire and all.

*cracks knuckles*

The Garage
- Found when Ingress "opened" the floor underneath George Lass to send her to the NJ Turnpike. When asked to open the floor a second time the hole went to the Garage. The Garage is where you can find ANY FICTIONAL MODE OF TRANSPORTATION...and I think a Yugo that Raph beat the crap of when he couldn't figure out how to shut off the alarm.

To get there you either need 1) an opener to open the floor or 2) to take the elevator that's around the corner from the fireplace, behind the stairs to the guest suites.

The Roof
- Raph used to live there back before his Wizarding Tent died. (Thanks a lot Blodwyn and Adam!) The roof is booby trapped with Weasley Wizard Wheezes including, but not limited to: Dung bombs, Howlers from their Mum, and a trap called Slow-Time which makes the triggerer move in slow motion. You can avoid all of these traps by walking straight from the edge of the roof to the front door of the tent. Raph's not that bright.

The Television
- There's a television suspended over Bar. It, like all televisions in the bar, does not have a constant channel stream and can/does show random shows from all over. From the first televised Olympic games (O hi there hitler) to the Squidopera "Tentacles of our Waves"

The Forest
- It's magic and exists only so far as the magic does. Which means...that it often repeats like a Hanna Barbera cartoon background.

The Walls
- Are modular and, if you know how, can be moved. Of course you'd then come into contact with the Five Rogue Loompas who....don't really like people all that much. Yes, this is how they get in and out of the respective rooms, and yes....they do watch you while you're sleeping.

The Wait Rats
- Are mostly dead. The dead ones have bullet holes for speed. The living ones...not so much. Think Rats of NiHM, only...with more attitude and the ability to make damn tasty food.

The Shrine
- An ashtray with a cigarette that never burns down and a picture of Sirius and Kassandra are somewhere on Bar's top. They were set there by John Constantine. Mike may some day persuade her to relocate it to the Barback, but she hasn't given in yet.

The Bra
- From the Strip Poker game that we don't speak of. It's from Tonks. It's bright yellow.

The Gym
- It's open to all and the first door on the left when one goes down the Staff Hallway. Full of all the second hand work out gear that someone might need...and a Work-in-Progress Harley Davidson. Oh there's an attached bathroom too.

The Security Office
- Opened by Bigby. Home to Baby: the Magically Self Aware holding cell, Ro-Man: Longest Held Character in the history of the game, and an entire cell/aquarium of red-eared slider hatchlings.

I'm sure there's other stuff too....

I think some people have millicanoned mentions by the rats of the Ancient Ones (or the like) who had bullet holes for speed, to explain the fact that no one ever comments on the ghost-with-bullet-holes aspect any more.

Maybe they have a nice ghostly retirement home in the walls, and grumble at all the young breathing whippersnappers?

I will talk about the stables when I'm not on my mobile device with these bitty keys.

In short though, I know I've said that there's a bit of a trail around the lake (and others have too) for running/jogging/riding. Doc's found himself a few trails through the woods, one that leads to a nice, flat, long stretch of open space where one can lhaul ass for a small distance on horseback.

Also, I know Ironhide has a crater. There's a Whomping Willow. Inlet...doesn't Mal have his little boat out there too?

I know back in the day when Alain was working in the stables there were a whole bunch of stallions around Milliways stables, several of them war-trained. And so I had the idea -- which I forget if I ever officially wrote anywhere, or just thought about -- that there were a lot of very sturdy paddocks QUITE FAR APART to facilitate the prevention of stallion-brawls. *wry*

I know there was a round pen for training at one point, too. Alain was teaching Gavroche to ride, and there were some people training younger horses (or pegasi, or whatever). I don't know if that was a temporary or permanent structure.

Mr. Julia Fruitnugget and Sunshine Dust are the giant squids in the lake. Is Puck's little squidlet out there now, too? What a happy family! Ingress rescued Mr. Julia from his kidnappers, because hey, I like squids.

Actually, those squids need to have babies. Ingress has waited almost as long for them to have babies as she has Tom and Door, and Tom and Door ain't stepping up yet.

Aside from the squids, I don't think I have left originated anything outside. Maybe one day!

The House of Art painting is the infamous one of dogs playing poker. It's in a fine gilt frame. The dogs are now enchanted a la Harry Potter paintings, and the St. Bernard leers. A lot. They all cheat ridiculously. The Alsatian (German Shepherd) is the leader. They will bark or growl at dire goings on. No one can go through it unless they're charmed to the painting, but when they are, they place a hand on the painting and step through. It doesn't swing open or anything.

I think there was a jukebox at one point, but not sure if it's still around.

Also I think Naraht had carved out some caves in the back with Horta rock work a long time back.

There's also the greenhouse out back which while it's been destroyed a few times it's also been rebuilt? Can anybody confirm this?

The greenhouse was originally Anthy's. I don't think anyone built it; I think it just appeared one day, back when the outdoors was nebulously transitioning between being an exact replica of the Hogwarts grounds to being the psychosomatic geography we all know and love. My memories of this are equally nebulous, though, so I could be forgetting something. She grew lots of roses in there, but various other people had bits of it; I'm pretty certain Elaine had some lilies and such there from early on.

When Anthy finished her canon she moved all her plants out of it. Meg got killed there. (Oops.) Somewhere in there Mary Lennox took over it, since clearly no one else was doing a proper job of it. All the glass was shattered in the Twelfth Night plot with Blodwen, but was replaced... um, sometime. There's an apple tree (for protection against the Dark) growing by the front door now. Audrey II and Stitch knocked a hole in a pane brawling, but I that eventually got replaced too. To my knowledge it's intact nowadays, isn't it?

Anybody want to help fill in the gaps here?
