Is there a fandom that you enjoy specifically because of Milliways? (This is different from 'What fandoms do you like because you've seen them in Milliways'. For example: I never heard of Still Life With Woodpecker, but I read it because of Bernard Wrangle. What I'm after is more like the fact that I probably wouldn't appreciate the Dark Tower series as much as I do if it hadn't been for the DT players. Does that make sense?)

Uhm, Farscape. I got into it because of Lorna and Aeryn and now play in it myself. For a given definition of "play" because Twilight HAS JDLFKJADSLFGA TAKEN OVER...but I would have never fought so hard to play a character if it hadn't been for Lorna :P
I don't...know if there are others. I mean, I'm sure there are, but I've fallen so out of touch with just randomly reading threads. :(

And, I gotta echo your DT appreciation, Steph -- I'm reading the series for the first time, and bar comparisons keep overlapping with every book.

Doctor Who, especially the first season of the new series. ESPECIALLY THE LAST EPISODE. I will always secretly think Ace was there.
I can't think of any others. There are probably some, though.

-- Okay, that was not actually the question, on rereading. *facepalm* But I typed all that stuff, so I am leaving it!
To answer the actual question: Milliways has changed Firefly for me. I can't think of any others off the top of my head -- oh, Narnia, too. The Narnia players here made me think of the books less as children's toys and more as books in their own rights; I borrowed my friend's set and ravenously reread the entire series in two days soon after joining Milliways.

I am not sure if this is part of the question, but I would have to say that Fantastic Four is much more for me since I started playing Ben. The F4 have always been a team I care a lot about and have been like family for me, but now I "feel" what Ben would feel in the situations the writers put him in, on panel and off. I go beyond what they write, kind of fill in the blanks they don't have the time or imagination for.
In fact Ben is growing on me a lot and is almost becoming an inspiration. I wonder how long it will take them to lock me up when I yell, "It's Clobberin' Time!"?

I saw Devil's Backbone because of Milliways and loved it because it gave me more insight into Sante. Oh yeah and Kingdom Hospital, why have we never gotten more people in from that? Well, with that one, I suddenly realized why I should be afraid of the DR. Ga! That guy was evil! I am not kidding. Poor Elinor, You know I almost apped her.
Most of my pups are very much alone in the bar, but I must say that Tegid has gained a bit of joy because I have had to do research for him. You can't have an Iron Ager without the research. And it has also gotten me to re read a lot more of his canon.
Courage too, I catch myself watching Courage and thinking, Oh, i should bring him in from that, or, wow, I am glad he's got Milliways his world sucks!

I started paying attention to Burn Notice because of Lexie's descriptions of the show on her journal, although doubtless she's forgotten about that. So that's...sort of related to Milliways? But now we have a Fiona in bar, so I'm watching all the episodes again.
I went back and watched the MiB films because of Rick. I'd always liked them, but now I pay much more attention to the tiny details in the films. I started reading Fables again because of Gar and Rick during the Black Oil plot.
Um. Let's see. I'd already read Lukyanenko's Night Watch books (the ones that are out in English) before I joined Milliways, but now that we have a magnificient Olga here, I'm going back and reading them again. (New book finally out in English! Although, as with all the Watch books, the translations are really awkward in places.)
I've also delved back into reading/watching canons that I'd not been involved with in a long time because I was thinking of apping characters from that canon. For example, I went back and read all of Gruenwald's run on Captain America because I wanted to app a character from said run (and no, it's not Cap). I'm very active in Marvel fandom, but this time I concentrated just on this character in my my processing of canon.
Oh, I blame Gwynne for my giving a crap about Samurai Champloo.

Yeah, that. My parents tried to get me to watch it, but I didn't really pay attention, and then Cam brought Whistler into the bar, and he was so awesome I decided to give it another chance.

On the one hand, both of the canons I've investigated from Milliways were pretty awesome on their own, and I did it, in both cases, with only a glancing acquaintance with the pups from them. So, those don't really count, I guess - if I'd stumbled across them some other way, I would have liked them just as much, probably.
On the other, there are a lot of canons that I mean to check out, because of Milliways - Neverwhere, Doctor Who and its spin-offs, Artemis Fowl, and, dear god, maybe even Twilight - which I'd probably like on their millicredentials alone, even if they didn't amuse me at all.
(I'd like to say that the comics-muns around have cured me of my marked distaste for Marvel and stuff that I picked up during high school, but I'm bad about following their threads. And it sounds like people who are still comics-fans have an even higher distaste level than I do, most days.)

Comics is an abusive relationship I just can't leave. D: If you ever get in the mood for it, though, we can rec the good stuff. And by 'good stuff' I usually mean 'crack.'
no subject
BUT THE VOICES DEMAND TO BE HEARD.
So, I don't know what to do. Do I app them and hope for the best, or force myself (ahahaha, pun) to reread the canons even though it's unpleasant because I more or less remember everything! Ugh.
In other news, Milliways brought me back to Half-Life, Marvel, and SW. If that counts. XD

Also: I FEEL THE SAME WAY ABOUT AVATAR. ALDFJASKDFJ I mean it's avatar so it's never NOT FUN to watch but ... arg. don't have tiiime.

Those are the two that really spring to mind since the list of the ones I've been introduced to is much bigger though I would say Milliways have also educated me wonderfully about my own fandoms. I love being able to share and talk about how the Greek myths work and figure out why do I like some versions of Robin Hood and not others. Or even the simple thing of how do I play Tumnus in such a way to fit into the wonderful world created by the retired Narnian pups and still tell his story. Its all these wonderful complexities that come out in how I write and think about everything I see and read now that's purely due to Milliways.

There'd be lots more if I think a bit longer, but that's what I can think of off my cuff.
