Nightly Entertainment

This resurrection of Nightly Entertainment is due to my selfless decision that the time had come, and unrelated to the fact that I'm stuck at my desk writing final papers.

If your character is capable of nausea, how do they deal with it? How do they treat stomach-flu or analogous viruses? If they're not capable of nausea, how do they react when it happens to other people?

Let's see, so, Melpomene basically gets sick for under a day, and then whatever was in there purges itself. So she doesn't really get serious viruses. However, she can experience the effects for a full 24 hours, if they start exactly at midnight.

Lamia, I don't think, is capable of any sort of human feeling whatsoever-- and that includes nausea.

Dr. Horrible just sits on his sofa and secretly wishes his mother were there, but instead tries to think comforting thoughts about bank robberies and nailing Captain Hammer to the wall.

YEOW. Hahaha. That'd make for some interesting slash...

... BUT NO. It's "to the wall."

And yes. I base most of my stuff on Melpomene and wounds-slash-sickness on the whole gods healing within a day, re Prometheus.

Clear liquids, possibly saltines. Lots of rest. Dayquil or Nyquil.

Illyria isn't really that capable of it, except for the time she ate magic candy bats. Otherwise she's kind of repulsed by human bodily functions and is in NO hurry to repeat the candy incident. Ever.

Bella, as per canon, gets nauseated at pretty much the drop of a hat and deals with it by lying on the ground and being pathetic.

Rose, now that she works for Torchwood, probably has access to some alien remedy, but probably still curls up on her mom's sofa and takes advantage of the sick day for some quality trash tv time.

Wanderer lives in a society that can cure anything pretty much instantly.

Weyland doesn't get sick.

Antony is historically famous for being so drunk and/or hungover that he sometimes threw up into other people's togas in the Senate, so... yeah, he's a charmer.

Aeneas probably endures it in a stoic and manly way, and resolves to offer sacrifices to whoever the god of not-throwing-up might be.

Rebecca's got herbs and things to take care of it.

Al... wishes he was still in the Navy, so he could get a cute nurse to look after him.

Squirrel's a sympathy-puker, as Coreen has discovered. He does not handle stomach-flu situations well at all.

I think my characters are all more or less matter-of-fact about not feeling well.

Cal spent a good chunk of his life addicted to various drugs; the biggest surprise of finding himself resurrected in a fully repaired body was that he suddenly didn't feel like crap. Even though he'd been clean for while beforehand, he'd still done a lot of damage. So, if he were to get sick now, I think he'd have to be pretty sick for it to really get to him.

Steven works in a restaurant and is long since used to powering through any illness that leaves him with the ability to remain upright, and a few that don't. Of course, he is also happy to milk any and all illnesses, real or imaginary, for sympathy, particularly in the company of attractive women.

Javert does not get sick. I mean, he probably does, but you'd never know it from looking at him.

How is it that I always feel late, even on a NE? xD

Rorschach...I don't know. He might take a night off to try and sleep it off if he had an actual stomach bug, but for just random nausea he would probably tough it out.

Arnold eats homemade chicken soup (and probably get a good, strong dose of "Grandpa's tall tales" to go with it).

Barty very, very rarely gets sick, but in canon whenever he gets nauseous he takes medicine and hides in his bedroom for a while.

[identity profile] cursedpanda.livejournal.com 2009-05-15 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
I whole-heartedly agree with this plan! I would be the most on-time of them all, no doubt.

Personally, I prefer hiding away and sleeping. Sleep cures everything, riiiiiiiight?

Felix, or at least mid- and late-Felix, has lived years among a people with very little empathy. So he's all very stoic about it.

Fakir attempts to look stoic and perfectly healthy for as long as he can, and if he really has to vomit he makes sure he's in a place where no one can see him. (Or at least he tries to make sure. Someone's always watching.)

If someone else is sick, Fakir will be disgusted and obnoxious about it.

Malcolm Crowe, being a doctor, probably just heals himself. =D

Agent K would probably drink his way through it, which would probably work since the man could handle alien drinks foul enough to wipe out most viruses.

Zed pretty much feels overwhelming nausea every time he steps into the fucking bar, so I guess he's sort of learned to live with it.

Angel just gets the evil, supernatural-type stomach flu's now, so I'm guessing it's more of a problem for anyone around him than it is for him. =/

And Wesley probably gets grumpy, ummm, grumpier than usual, and just keeps going until he passes out and the nausea goes away.

No no, obviously Wesley annoys Illyria until she knocks him unconscious and the nausea goes away. :P

Shati, you so crazay!

And, well, um, I suppose Veronica seems the type to try to get it all over with by hunkering down with a bucket and sticking some fingers down her throat. Bleaaahh.

Also, my canon is apparently now fictional in your canon! Which I think makes this rabbithole some kind of circular tail-eating Ouroboros thingamajiggy.

Well sadly my canon is no longer ongoing so I'm not sure how possible that will be BUT I CAN DREAM.

Did you know that many hours of day or late night TV, ice cream, and frozen snickers will cure most any sickness? Just ask Ben Grimm if you don't believe me. Also, Susan's french tomato soup works miracles. When he is truly desperate, he will make a trip to Yancy Street for the proper Matzo Ball soup infusion.

In actuality, Ben's cosmic ray altered physiology wards off most, if not all, earth born diseases. When Ben does get sick, it is usually the result of something picked up from the Negative Zone, space or any of the other dimensions he adventures in.

If Homestar is nauseous, he's going to vomit. That's just how it is. But I don't think seeing someone else nauseous bothers him too much.

Well, we'll get to find out about nausea and Mia soon enough, now won't we? And really, most every situation I can think of her witnessing someone else being nauseous, she was feeling the same way for the same reason, not because she saw someone nauseous.

This question is relevant to my interests. Uh, sort of. In the way where I'm pleased that I can read it without my stomach roiling!

My answer is: 'I don't know, but I'll bet Liz is the crankiest sick person in the world and lights things on fire the way I always want to.'

(Sorry I flaked so hard on the heist yet again; life has exploded in too much to do. I WILL SEE YOU SOON. Just -- possibly not before I leave the state for the time being. GOOD LUCK WITH THE PAPERS YOU CAN DO IT!!!)

Crowley does not get sick, per se - not unless someone has been slipping communion wafers into his food, or what have you. But he can be quite the twitchy, high-strung little demon, and he can (and does) get nauseous from an unreasonable excess of stress/fear/worry/etc. On rare occasions, he will actually throw up, but usually his solution is either to procure himself a (possibly spiked) cup of tea, or to go and freak out around Aziraphael until the angel makes him some (probably spiked) tea.

Most of mine deal with it by being excessively stoic. *rueful* SHOCKINGLY. Lan in particular believes in ignoring all physical discomfort out of existence, and is from a culture that has developed meditational techniques for precisely that. Well, for ignoring both pain and emotions, really. Lan's culture explains a great deal about him.

For other people, he is either stoically businesslike in finding aid if possible/desirable/warranted, or stoically businesslike in encouraging them to suck it up and deal if aid is not possible. Lan is a helpful soul. (If the person in question is Nynaeve or Moiraine, there's significantly more solicitousness involved, however. And occasional orders to stay put and rest, because they are just as terrible patients as he is.)

River gets quiet and sullen and sulky. Back in the day when she was sane and not on bunches of medications with assorted side effects, and thus when nausea was a rarer occurrence, she was more loudly sulky.

Honey makes sure EVERYONE IN THE ENTIRE WORLD knows that he is sick so that he can get pampered and tucked in for naps and fussed over. With other people, he is sympathetic in a highly distractable way; he would offer you his stuffed bunny to cuddle in case that makes you feel better! And then bounce away to whatever he was doing.
