What do you do with a Drunken Sailor? (aka Ash and Jack's Pirate Treasure Evening) - Summary Time!

(Ash-mun speaks...)
OOC, this all started with my misguided desire to make a scene. I'm never doing that again.

IC, Jack and Ash show up, decked out in treasure and looking for a good time. They discuss the merits of being alive, Ash decides that he'd rather not make piracy a full-time gig and wonders whether piracy is an inherited trait. Val arrives to take orders and partake of free tea.

Shortly afterward, Tim arrives and expresses curiosity about the box full o' treasure. He declines Ash's offer for a drink (apparently the bar disapproves of underage imbibing, much to Jack's dismay) but accepts the free treasure, despite worrying slightly about its origins. He muses about the laws of Milliways (see note later) and tells Jack that he's been hired as a bouncer. Jack wonders how this will affect the bar's, shall we say, colorful atmosphere. Tim demonstrates his power - "it's not the size, it's how you use it." He asks Jack not to start anything with the two pirates who came in in a separate thread...

(At this point Ash-mun, who had valiantly volunteered to handle the summarizing by herself back when the thread was a mere 147 comments, pointed out that she could use some help. ;) And so, we continue, with Jack-mun writing!)

Meanwhile, the arrival of Starscream manages to confuse both Jack and Ash, who have never seen anything quite like the Decepticon. Starscream is apparently used to this by now, and hands over a data pad with his information in an attempt at explanation. Unfortunately, Jack has never seen anything like that either, and so just stares at it blankly. Starscream assumes the pirate can't read, which insult nearly causes a touchy situation, but both soon calm down, exchange names and brief histories, and go back to drinking while talking about basic geographical information.

At this point, Tonks walks up, drawn by the offer of free alcohol. Her hair attracts quite a lot of attention from Ash, Jack, and Starscream all three, and so she manages to hold three (eventually five) separate conversations at once while Continuity spends a bit of time getting hammered on rum. Starscream wants to know if her hair is natural, and Tonks replies that it's magic, which observation touches off a small philosophical discussion on the nature of technology vs. magic in their respective worlds and wars.

Ash compliments Tonks on her hair, and she thanks him and asks the reason behind the free drinks. Ash links it to some work he had to do, which sparks a friendly business discussion about retail work, demon slaying and curses.

During all this Jack, never one to miss an opportune moment, invites Tonks to join in the celebration and starts chatting her up a bit in his best piratical style. This attracts the attention of Tom Riddle, who wanders over to make sure that Tonks is okay. She assures him that she's fine, and the two of them catch up on recent events, which involve a Companion-free picnic for a very pleased Tom, Door, and Ingress. Jack and Tom introduce themselves, and trade their respective histories (wizard, formerly evil, and pirate, formerly cursed).

Tom takes his leave, at which point Jack promptly goes back to drinking with Tonks, who's decided, appropriately, on rum. Jack admires her hair, and soon asks if she can do that for others -- and quickly is given green streaks and golden strands to go along with the beads and bangles in his braids. Pleased at his new look, Jack calls Tonks beautiful and steals a kiss; she's amused by it all, and soon after says goodnight to Ash and Jack both, then heads off.

Indiana Jones has made his way through the crowd, meanwhile, and is greeted by Tonks. She asks him how he's adapting to the bar, and he acknowledges that he's doing fairly well. After a bit of small talk, during which Tonks teases Indy about being a heartbreaker, Kibeth is mentioned, and Tonks congratulates Indy on his good taste.

Jack and Ash both notice the newcomer, finally; Ash compliments Indy on his hat, and Jack asks about his story. Indy suggests that Jack not call him "mate" any more, then starts talking about the life of an archaeologist... and suddenly notices the Amulet of Ceres in the treasure chest, which leads to the observation that it should be in a museum, you know. Jack's not bothered by this, since the point of the evening was to give the treasure away, and so tells Indy to help himself, which provokes a surprising reaction when Indy's interest flags under the bar's influence. Eventually, he does take the amulet from Jack, but decides it's a fake anyway, and they go back to drinking for a bit before Indy leaves.

Anathema, now called Ame, arrives to say hello and collect a screwdriver as her free drink. She and Jack catch up for a bit, and it becomes clear that Ame isn't the most comfortable in her new outfit. Jack points out that being sensible at Milliways is definitely overrated, and the two talk of sailing and previous adventures briefly before Jack is distracted, as trouble has Definitely Arrived at the Bar...

Pintel and Ragetti walk in, sniping and worrying about Poppet the Bunny and Rags' eye, when suddenly Pintel stops and stares at a familar face. Jack, in turn, swings 'round at hearing a familiar voice, and matters begin almost instantly start to go from bad to worse -- these pirates have plenty of reason to dislike each other, you see. Jack is briefly a good host, by way of Ash's treasure tab, and Pintel and Rags settle in warily for a drink. Jack demands to know what they've been up to, and Rags is excited over his new pet bunny. Jack snarkily comments on the nature of Rags' and Pintel's adoring ... friendship... and Pintel immediately takes offense. The already tense situation now starts to get dangerous, as real insults are exchanged and fists are clenched. At this point Tim, who has been keeping a watchful eye on the situation, steps in to ask if there's a problem, arriving right as Jack checks for his gun; Tim really doesn't like that, and Jack stands down, having already seen a demonstration of Tim's power. A few more snarls are thrown, and Pintel openly doubts Tim's abilities as bouncer. This amuses Jack rather a lot, and Tim shows how he can "gain the ability to gut you within eyeblinks," leading to a much calmer group of pirates in short order. Pintel and Rags head off to find Poppet, and Jack turns to talk to Alanna.

Speaking of Alanna, she comes over to the bar for the free drinks and to laughingly inquire if Ash was a king, since he's wearing a crown. Although he's not, it turns out that he nearly was, while she was nearly a queen. The two of them bond over their shared experiences with royalty and giving treasure away, then move on into a discussion of Ash's career, the annoying questions he gets asked, armies of undead, and Bernard as bartender. Corwin strolls up and promptly asks Ash one of the annoying questions, prompting a sigh and an all-too-familiar answer from Ash. They commence drinking and talk about people who have lost hands for a while, then discuss the treasure itself, during which Corwin gives advice on concealing one's riches.

While Ash and Corwin chat, Alanna talks with Jack about the Pearl and the life of a pirate; although Ash has decided he's not suited for it, she expresses interest in seeing Jack's ship someday, and Jack says that she's always welcome to come sailing with him. At this point, she smiles, and then Alanna turns to the other thread to greet Corwin, and introduces the prince to the pirate. (Continuity has no issue with this thread-splitting, since it's passed out on the floor under The Table due to having had too much rum.) Corwin and Jack size each other up, and discover that they actually have quite a few things in common-- and so, a cautious friendship starts to form. Free drinks aside, Corwin has come over looking for Alanna, to give her his brother's sword. She is beyond honored, and thanks him sincerely; the two of them quickly decide to test their skills against each other in a duel the next night. Corwin bids farewell to everyone, and departs. Somewhere in here, Ash leaves as well, having had enough rum for one evening.

Alanna turns back to Jack in the other thread, and informs him that she's been hired as a bouncer for the bar. He is appropriately horrified at the idea that they might actually be serious about enforcing rules (conveniently disregarding Tim's helpfulness earlier), and she hastens to assure him that it's more a matter of protecting the weak from the strong -- and that he should let her know if she gets too respectable. (Bernard-mun, you didn't read that, ok? ;) Jack promises to keep an eye on her, and they talk about future plans and her family for a bit; Alanna gets a bit upset about Thom, and Jack points out that although Thom's probably interesting enough, his attention has been attracted by her -- not her brother. She doesn't quite know how to deal with this, but likes the idea, and Jack seizes the opportune moment to steal a rather more intense kiss than the one he gave Tonks earlier. They break apart for a moment, and then Alanna decides she's interested too, and kisses him again. Jack calls her a treasure, and Alanna smiles, then goes up to her room. Alone.

Jack grins at the departing Alanna, but is rudely distracted when he is suddenly divebombed by an insanely cheerful cherub, Ariel, who is followed almost immediately by her brother Ezekiel. The two beam and smile as they strive to convince Jack that a life of total purity, without rum or women, would be the bliss he's been seeking all his life. Jack goes from shocked to suspicious to amused, as he doesn't believe them -- but Ariel is determined to make him understand, and then Ezekiel decides that maybe Jack just doesn't realize that he doesn't have to be celibate as long as he marries, and that he could have the extra special bonus joy of constant hymn-singing. Jack's very skeptical about this, and so the two cherubs proceeds to burst into inspiring song (and meanwhile, this mun falls down laughing). Jack is horrified at the realization that they're serious and might mean to curse him with a fate worse than undeath, and beats a strategic retreat out the front door and back to the Black Pearl. The frustrated cherubs swoop about like demented bats for a bit, then leave Milliways for the time being.

THE END!
