My characters' names are as follows:

If nobody has still apped Marcus Wright from Terminator: Salvation, I am apping him next month. His username is per1ag0ge. Periagoge, or γνῶθι σεαυτόν gnōthi seauton, is the greek term for Know Thyself. Due to his struggle in the movie against various perceptions and definitions, I felt that this fit him best.

I also contrasted it against a John Connor in another game, whom my sister plays, so that is why he has that username. I chose the username for that character to be ouden_eidos. This is "I know that I know nothing", although some argue that it ought to be translated as "I know, through not knowing". (ἓν οἶδα ὅτι οὐδὲν οἶδα hen oída hoti oudén oída, or scio me nihil scire or scio me nescire.)

Both of these can break down due to the Münchhausen-Trilemma, which states that it is impossibly to prove any theory that you have, ever. I feel that this fits Terminator to a T. xD

in_zero was picked before I adopted him. It comes from his name. That was easy.

mines_wooden comes from... him having a wooden sword that turns into a sharp blade, also using a baseball bat in some fights. Also... well. Perverted joke, I suppose?

ever_lovin is a shortening of one of Ben's more famous lines; that being "I am the ever lovin' blue eyed Thing".

val_von_doom is Val's name using Val's preferred shortening of her first name. Not so imaginative but it does roll right off the tongue and sounds cute right?

lil_bunny_ronin is taken from the song title "Little Bunny Foo Foo" and changing it to fit Usagi's situation. My evil attempt at humor but it makes me chuckle when I see it.

wildwld_gadgets is shorthand for Wild Wild Gadgets, an amalgamation of Artemis' canon title (i.e. Wild Wild West) and what he is most famous for from said canon. He almost was wildwld_marshal, but that would have only worked if I had used the movie canon since in the tv series they weren't marshals in the TV series but special agents. I think.

excidiumequitis is my attempt at Latin by which I was intending to say "Excidium's Rider". I used Latin because in Capt. Roland's country dragons are traditionally given Latin names.

nanny_bot is because that is H.E.R.B.I.E.'s primary function and it sounds funny.

seid_shifter is a play on shapeshifter. Seid is a type of magic the Norse practiced and shapeshifting and magic are among Loki's strongest talents.

hisimprlmajesty is my shorthand for His Imperial Majesty which is the proper formal address for Emperor Norton. (I miss this guy, head voice come back soon?)

six_ofone - I had really wanted some form of "number_six," especially as I've used the journal in other comms to play other Six copies, but just about everything was taken. This was probably just my favorite pun the show used as an episode title (e.g., "Six Degrees of Separation," etc).

nurse_espinosa - It's not very inventive, but I wouldn't use anything different. I'd considered something like 'bossofeverybody,' but... eh. This is kind of too perfectly apt to go with anything else.

youask_why - One of my favorite scenes in the series is Adama asking Sharon why the Cylons hate the humans so much. I guess I could make up some long reasoning about both Athena and Boomer and how their stories in the series tend to focus on their very different choices and the uncertainty of the motivations behind them, but... it's really a lot just because of that scene.

ofthatantet comes from a quote in DT 5; We are of that an-tet, sure; khef and ka, watch and warrant. I picked it off the cuff, to indicate that yes, indeed, Susannah's daughter had inherited, and was heart and soul a gunslinger.

Chur is mapmakerchur because I'm pretty sure she's referred to as a Mapmaker (or maybe 'the' Mapmaker, it's been a while) in Chanur's Legacy due to her ability to sense gravity wells while in hyperspace (and thus make a map showing those locations).
Ben is beenthenumbers because while he's an independent miner he's known as a good "numbers man" (good at interpreting active scans of an area), and later it is realized that he has gotten the wrong assignment because he's doing something other than scan-tech, and "Ben's always been the numbers." (Also, in my dialect the name "Ben" and the verb "been" sound the same, so not only does it say that he has always "been the numbers," but also that he is "Ben, the numbers.")

(Bonus! While I still played Famine from Nethack his username was "hungryampersand" because in the terminal version of Nethack he is represented by a & and his attack causes hunger.)

hands_of_blu - When a man wears elbow-length blue rubber gloves on the battlefield and is as creepy as some of the Medic's canonical lines would indicate, of course one is going to want to invoke the image of the Hands of Blue, in Firefly.
prob_japanese - Bumblebee had this name when I adopted him, but I'm pretty sure the person who created the journal was referencing one of Sam Witwicky's lines in the first Transformers movie about the robot probably being Japanese.
not_toothfairy - The first human in the 2007 TF movie to encounter Ironhide was a small child who asked the giant robot crawling out of her family's pool if he was the Tooth Fairy.

queenofmay and livingintrinity are references to the Marian mythology that has developed over time and space and Europe. The Queen of May and the Lord of the Green were adapted early on with them as one of the faceted faces.

themidnightson is kind of obvious. One, it's the title of his book, The Midnight Sun, which references his trying to explain how Bella effected his entire existence the way nothing had in eight decades. Two it's changing 'sun' to 'sun,' with reference on the because he's literally the starting point of his family happening according to his canon.

bright_daughter is a reference to humility, innocent age, and brilliance. Things which Star has in spades, even if some of them are only in the seeming of them.

grandsuccess is a quote from canon. That Allie is the Grand (and pivotal) Success of the TM Great Alien Human experiment. Said by the bad guys in a rather amazing conversation in the later sections of her canon.

thecommoner is also easy to see why if you've seen canon. It's her sore thumb. It's what is associated with her at every turn, whether as insult or endearing quality. She is common among the privileged.

sorceressupreme was too long and had to be squished, and it's a truth branded on her soul, she can't avoid even if she has long blonde hair, baby blue eyes, and skin with fragile looking clavicles. It's the blood in everything. She is the Sorceress Supreme of Limbo, raised on it and beholden to it, even in her infuriating inability to hate it for that. Plus, it's a reference to fact she was one of the candidates to replace Doctor strange, and his commentary on her (and her power level) in the books.

Well, Gatsby's username (thegreat_gatsby) isss pretty self-explanatory and relatively un-inventive of me.

Pepper's (piperaceae) is simply a Latin word for her own nickname.

GLaDOS' (is_still_alive) is playing around with a certain song that she sings in canon.

Mahone's (neveranyeasier) comes from a quote in canon, just after Michael Scofield has killed someone and is brooding in his cell, at which point Mahone (who is the only one to realize that the 'accident' that killed the other man was set up) shows up to tell him that killing never gets any easier.

San's (mononoke_san) isn't that inventive, either. 'Mononoke' is a word that, in a broad sense, means 'beast,' thus the title of her canon 'Princess Mononoke' and San is her name, so. :|

Ella's (a_day_of_sky) is from one of the songs that she sings in canon, called 'I Remember,' in which she talks about what little things she remembers about the outside world, and her last lines are, "And sometimes I think / I would gladly die / for a day of sky."

shortofcrazy is from an exchange between Riley and Ben in the first National Treasure; I can't remember exactly who says what, but I know it ends with something like: Ben says, "And what does that make us?" Riley says, "Crazy," and then Ben answers, "No, one step short of crazy." SOMETHING LIKE THAT. This game is hard when I am on work's internet and trying not to Google all over the place. But I liked that username for Riley; 'one step short of crazy' seemed like an accurate description, and also, 'short of crazy' sounds like 'sort of crazy,' which is also accurate. As an added bonus, Riley is indeed short.

fighting_mad is just from the phrase of the same name, which fit Plourr well. Fighting mad as a description of anger, and fighting mad because she likes to fight.

walking_napalm's username comes from one of the animated Hellboy movies. Liz self-describes as walking napalm in a self deprecatory moment, and I loved that as a way of articulating what she can do with fire.

nodistresshere is named that because of an exchange in one of the comics where she gets shot and a character says something like, "I love rescuing beautiful damsels in distress." Even when I was a kid, that bugged me; I knew that Iella was no damsel and didn't really need to be rescued. So when the time came to name her journal, I tried every version of "not a damsel" I could think of. They were all taken, so I went with "no distress here."

nexttimebaby's name is from movie-Rhodey's dialogue, what I think was his most memorable line. I liked it for its brevity, for the way it looked, and because it signified that War Machine is coming.

I didn't name yankeedoodle_dr (djcati did that, and I adopted the journal from her), but the name's from an episode where Hawkeye does a ridiculous parody movie as the Yankee Doodle Doctor, and it's perfect. I love it for that and for the more sarcastic undertones; Hawkeye's going to do his job and he's a patriot in his own way, but he'll never be a rah-rah yankee doodle guy. Father Mulcahy is cheerychaplain, which is self explanatory.

joiningyousoon comes from a line of Maya's. She tells the sky -- talking to a dead person, in the part where she's gone a little out of her mind -- that she'll be "joining you soon," and it turns out to be true in a very different way than she intended. I liked that. Also, I just really needed a name and couldn't come up with anything.

And finally, the context for mamaplays2win's username is in her profile. It's one of my favorite exchanges of hers; it cracks me up every time. I think it sums her up well. Mama does play to win.

Bela Lugosi played the 1930's Dracula, and Lawrence Talbot was the name of the Wolfman in classic horror films. SO the SPN writers thought, "Har, har, let's create an HOMAGE!"

In the episode that introduces Bela, she goes by the name Lugosi to hire some thugs to steal a dangerous something. So her user name is not_lugosi! I've worked hard to millicanon exactly why she goes by Bela, though, instead of the name she'd prefer, which is Isabella. Sigh. Goofy writers and their jokes.
