What's your pup's earliest memory?
kd7sov: (Default)

[personal profile] kd7sov 2009-08-06 12:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm. It's a bit early - I don't think I know anyone with memories from before they were three - but I'm getting an impression that Felix's first memory is of watching his sister take her first step.

As for Frederic, who knows? If I were better-educated about mid-to-late-nineteenth-century life I could hazard a guess as to what sort of economic and social class he might have come from, but I just don't know.

...Now I'm getting a "Muppet Babies" type of thing - toddler pirates.

[sings]MEEEEEEMORIES! Like the coooooooorners of my mind![/singing]

Gert's ([livejournal.com profile] laceandarsenic) is of being told off for asking too many questions.

Tosh's ([livejournal.com profile] oohshinyalien) is of her grandfather and a very, very old computer.

Angelina's ([livejournal.com profile] capt_angie) is of flying on a broom with her father.

Helena's ([livejournal.com profile] baptizemyself) is of her father hitting her mother.

Agreed, though in the case of Charlie and Helena, it was far more a case of kindred spirits slowly finding each other. And then having it all go wrong immediately when she hasn't changed her ways.

Kirk remembers his dad taking him on a skycar flight over Iowa and Nebraska when he was 3.

Gibbs has trouble remembering much before he was 10, and it's not particularly interesting.

Charlie can tell you the first time he got into a fight in the orphanage. He was six. He won.

Knox remembers watching grainy film footage of the Soviet tanks rumbling into Hungary in 1956. When he was 2. This may be a false memory. He also remembers his parents going nuts about Sputnik.

Val says the first time she saw light split through a prism as she lay in her crib is her earliest concrete memory. She does have a vague abstract memory of her brother carrying her home before that.

Ben's earliest is a little depressing. It's of his parents violently fighting and his brother holding him and telling him that he and Ben are nothing like them.

Emperor Norton's first memory is waking from his dream and knowing he had been chosen for greatness.

[identity profile] kali921.livejournal.com 2009-08-06 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)

I LOVE this for Val.

Also, somewhat related, imagine being a kid of Reed and Sue's. Imagine what Reed would cook up for a mobile hanging over your crib! The mind boggles.

[identity profile] spooky-lemur.livejournal.com 2009-08-06 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. I said, "Val says..." because she literally did. I was trying to think of a concrete memory to pair with Franklin taking her "home" (a reference to his using his powers to save her from the miscarriage) and the prism idea just popped into my head.

And yes, Reed's Fantasti-mobiles would be something awesome. Of course Sue would have final veto on both the purpose and design.

She-Hulk's first memory is probably being dawdled on her father's knee with an episode of Cops on the television in the background.

Kendra's first memory is of sitting and playing with her mother and father in their backyard garden in Texas and the smell of flowering sages and Aquilegia in the air.

Lockjaw's first memory is mysterious because his origin itself is a mystery - canon doesn't say how old he was when he went into the terrigen mists with Black Bolt nor does it specify how big he was when this happened or even if he already had his teleportation ability. But I suspect that a first Lockjaw memory probably has to do with snuggling against his mother (who is also a mystery) and/or being carried around by Black Bolt. If Lockjaw was ever that tiny, I bet Black Bolt and Crystal fought over who got to carry Lockjaw around and have him sleep on their beds (before he achieved gargantuan size, that is).

Lockjaw's obviously incredibly devoted to the Inhumans in general, and his early appearances in canon most closely associated him with Crystal, but the person he considers his true peer, the person who understands him the best, the person who can communicate with him most easily? That is Blackagar Boltagon, monarch of the Inhumans, and it is to him that Lockjaw will always, always answer first.

[personal profile] sdelmonte 2009-08-06 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Couldn't you argue that Kendra's first memory is much, much, much older? (I'm not up on just how much she recalls from her previous incarnations.)

[identity profile] kali921.livejournal.com 2009-08-06 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I should have specified - Kendra's memory in this life, before Shiera's soul took up residence in her person. But yes, if you take the long view, Kendra's first memory would be of Egypt.

Current canon in Blackest Night #1 has her telling Carter, right before she's killed, that she has no memories. This is Geoff Johns contradicting both 1) his own canon for Kendra and 2) Walt Simonson's last take on Kendra, so I'm ignoring that entirely. When Shiera's soul left Kendra's body at the end of Hawkgirl and Kendra's soul supposedly went back in (which...is weird, since Zauriel told Kendra years ago that her Kendra!soul had moved on into the hereafter permanently), she still had Shiera's memories.

Screw canon when it makes no sense.

I am now seeing little Crystal and little Blackagar fighting over how gets to take Lockjaw home as if her were the classroom pet. = ]

I find this weird, but apparantly Ramon's earliest memory was hearing about JFK's assassination. It came over the radio and his mother was quite upset while his father just sniffed at the news. This would have been two months before his fourth birthday and he was sitting under a table at the time, playing with a dirty old tennis ball.

Justin's was when he was two - fuzzy, but he remembers being in his pushchair in a park, looking up and seeing his mother smiling down at him and three balloons she'd tied to the handles. They were colourful and stood out against the blue sky.

Michael's is...seeing his father hit his mother in the kitchen. He was about three, and that's all he'll say about that.

Ruin's first memory is of playing in the field with the sheep his father raised in Scotland while his mother nursed his brother and told him not to chase the lambs.

Nathaniel's is sitting on the counter in the small kitchen of the house his parents had, watching his mother can fruits and vegetables from the garden outside to save a little money, feeding him bits of apple while singing to him while Nicky worked on homework at the table.

Dorian's is of being put in front of a piano and allowed to bang on the keys when he was four. Since that moment, the piano has been a passion of his.

Moon and Námo's first memories are of when time began. XD And Anita's, I think canonically, is of her mother. I don't know if that's because all Anita ever thinks about is her mother or if it truly is her first memory, but yeah, just her mom.

Oooh, oooh, I can answer this! In Fakir's earliest memory, he is six years old, and his foster-father is telling him what the birthmark on his chest represents.

(Yes, six years old is very old for a first memory. Fakir has issues with memory.)

Ace's first memory was of her Gran, telling her adventure stories. Gran from mum's side of the family, that is, not da's. Mum never liked the stories.

Glorfindel's involves sitting in a tree with a bunch of his friends, all of them just having eaten themselves sick on peaches, watching the play of light from the Two Trees.

Scaramouche first remembers Radio Gaga. She doesn't particularly remember what was playing, but it was always on. Always.

Wedge's first memory involves getting into a whole hell of a lot of trouble for having nicked a pair of his sister's undies for use in a game of 'capture the flag' with the other kids on the station. ... He didn't know they were undies when he grabbed them. They were just very brightly colored. Earlier memories have been lost due to getting his ass stunned too many times

Laranth's earliest memory is one of the days Master Yoda came to the creche to read stories. He'd even do voices. ... Most of the voices sounded like Master Yoda doing voices, but still. Not many other of the Masters tried.

McCoy's earliest memory involves a long, hot, sticky Georgian summer day, sitting on a riverbank with his grandpappy, fishing. He can never remember if they ever caught anything, he just remembers that riverbank, and lazing the day away.

Urahara is going to kill me for saying anything first remembers being impossibly hungry. No one else is hungry (and everyone else is taller than him, which he considers an outrage), but there's food being sold if only because people still feel the need to eat and be 'normal' even though they aren't hungry but he hasn't any money so... he steals an apple. It is the very best apple in the whole wide world.

Romana's first memory is of a procession she saw from way up above, of the Council members in their fancy robes and head-dresses. She spent the next week parading around her parents' house in a blanket and a hatbox.

Mia's first memory is that of the party celebrating Jessica's first visit to Vane, when both girls were about three or four. She was a bit frightened by Mel's booming laugh and hid behind her mother Lemia's skirt, and after that she wasn't quite sure what to do with Jessica. But Ghaleon, being the loner that he is from the party, escorted the girls out to the garden so that they could run around. It was one of the only times Mia ever got to play as a child.

Incidentally, Lemia's first memory takes place in her early twenties: the day Mia was born. The Ausa family also has issues with memory.

In my created background for Elle, her parents were separated before she was born, and she lived with her mother until she manifested when she was six. Her father visited her, and it became one of those things where he was this sort of mysterious figure in her life who always brought her nice gifts and took her to do cool things when he showed up. Her earliest memory is him giving her a small doll - basically, one of those princess dolls you get out of McDonald's happy meals. Except that he'd turned it into gold.

Carla's is being pelted with French fries by her older sisters while at a layover in New York when her family moved to Chicago when she was three. Which I'm making the executive decision happened now, as Scrubs is kind of inconsistent on that. (I know I wrote something kind of similar for Behrooz, I think I just have a lot of childhood memories that involve being in airports.)

I'm kind of afraid to do this for Caprica before seeing The Plan, but. Oh well. Caprica has always been aware of herself as a Cylon, which means to an extent she had a number of experiences and understandings from the moment of her creation, with no artificial memories to justify them. Her memories were also corrupted by the Ones, because they're jerks. So it's likely that her earliest memory is her first moment of consciousness, though it's been modified so as to block out any memory of the Final Five.

Sharon doesn't remember this, however, as she was reprogrammed with false human memories. Her earliest is watching the smog-filled sky over the mining colony where she lived from her small bedroom window.

Jack Green remembers the day he was born, or became self-aware: it was the day the earth cooled enough for the first blade of grass to poke up towards the sun. The moment there were living things, there was a Jack o'the green.

River remembers her father reading to her from a big picture book of alien lifeforms (Barlowe's anyone?). It was a very valuable book and he kept it on a high shelf in his study. She remembers wanting to read from it when he wasn't around, so she pushed a chair over to the shelves, and then balanced one of the little side tables on top of the chair, and then she started climbing. She had one foot on the high back of the chair and one foot on the bookshelves, her fingers stretched way out over her head, almost got it, almost, almost...

She had that cast on her arm for six weeks. (Years later, her father told her in a letter that she would have been just fine had her mum not come in and startled her at the wrong moment. It's all about the timing.)

I have a very clear image of Kate in her mother's arms, while she sits in a rocking chair softly singing a lullaby. Kate would be about two, and her mother in her mid-twenties. She's wearing a little yellow dress, while her mother is dressed in pure white, high collar and long sleeves, hair done up off her neck with ringlets in her face, and she's gently combing her fingers through Kate's hair while she rocks and sings. Also, the window to the farmhouse room is open, and a spring breeze is billowing the lace curtains.

Aside from this image, I also had the image of a 3 or 4 yr old Kate crouched outside her father's study, clinging to the doorjamb while she looks inside and watches him practice his violin, silhouetted against the light of a picture window.

[identity profile] candied-rabbit.livejournal.com 2009-08-06 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Given Momiji's childhood, his first memory was probably his mother having something akin to a panic attack, while his father tried to pull her out of the room. The likelihood that he was a rabbit at this point is middling-to-high.

Gilbert's, on the other hand, is definitely hiding underneath a blanket in a room on the Cocteau family mansion with a stuffed bunny, avoiding the maids who looked after him.

[identity profile] coreenfennel.livejournal.com 2009-08-06 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Coreen's earliest memory is probably of her father drunk and swinging punches, while her mother frantically throws clothes and things in a bag and leaves, coming back belatedly to scoop up Coreen and take her away.

Cleopatra's is of sitting on her father's lap in a litter during a parade in Alexandria, very opulently dressed (as usual) and giggling. I think she liked feeling the flower petals falling on her while they went through the city.

Beetle...with his retconnage, it's hard to tell. Plus, I'm afraid he doesn't have much in terms of a memory. I think though, it probably has something to do with his parents talking about how he'll never end up quite right, which of course, they were right.

Ivy remembers when her mother wasn't an undead vampire..when she was close to her mom and her mom would take her out for ice cream...always with Piscary, but...let's not get into those kinds of childhood memories. Poor girl.

I really want to do my upcoming pup, but it's probably more of the same parent drama. I seem to pick pups with family issues. :/

Ingress' first memory is one of her father laughing and picking her up to place her on his shoulders. They were in the meadow where the family still goes to get away from the rest of the Underside.

Tom remembers looking out a flimy window at gray buildings covered by gray sky and wanting to make the child behind him stop crying because it was making his head hurt. The child stopped crying.

Bela remembers a nanny - a young woman with bright red hair - playing with her on an oval carpet. They were building with ABC blocks and the nanny kept pointing out "A for Abby! That's your letter." She'd clap whenever Bela pointed to it and said "A is for me!".

[identity profile] arrin.livejournal.com 2009-08-06 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
AndrAIa remembers hiding from the User, hiding amongst a bunch of rocks and watching the big, metal shark pass overhead, hoping it doesn't see her. Getting killed hurts.

Thirteen has a very strong image of cuddling up to her crying mother. She's trying to cheer her up, and her mother strokes at her hair with trembling hands. For the longest time, she didn't understand why her mother was crying. She knows better now.

Kaidan...I'm not too sure about...I'll have to think on that.

Oh I really like this one and I have net in my place now.

Will's I think would be his mother saying, "Eat this, need yer strength, love." As the wind bit in and he kept hugging her since he hated seeing her worried.

Demeter's is of soil under her hands and feet.

I'm not sure about the others, I think for Tumnus it was his father playing the pipes by the fire and feeling safe.

It has actually been millicanoned that [livejournal.com profile] puckishly's earliest memory is of a forest, at night, with bright stars and damp earth. The whole "earliest memory" thing is a little dubious, with him, in that when you expect to live forever, you don't so much think about having a finite point of origin. (Well. If you're Puck you don't.)

I think Suze's earliest memory is of her dad lifting her up in his arms and swinging her around.

Ava's is of fireworks on the 4th of July, very loud and scary, and she was probably crying.

Asher's first - and one of the only remaining - memories as a human is leaning over the edge of the Pont Du Gard (http://www.chambres-hotes-avignon.com/media/fck/image/activites/Aqueduct_PontDuGard_Nimes.jpg), his father leaning on his legs, holding him so that he didn't over-balance. He remembers dropping a small stone off the edge, watching it bounce off the scree and boulders and his eyes watering as he tried to keep them open, follow the stone until it stopped. He lost it amongst the pebbles near the base.

His first memory as a vampire is waking up in Belle Morte's bed, freshly-bathed, Belle's hand sliding between his legs.
