Baseball, anyone?
Let me explain. You know those things that your pups just sort of decide to do, and drag you into? Well, Joan and I, the other day, were in the middle of a not especially remarkable thread with Meg Ford and Castiel and they somehow got onto the topic of baseball.
Castiel and Meg have decided to hold a baseball game. In a celebration of alliteration, Castiel and Carlisle Cullen will be Team Captains. Meg will be serving as umpire. So now they just need players and a baseball diamond.
That's where you may come in . . .
Want to get involved? Here's what you need to know:
We'll preplay the game in early to mid-September (and yes, we're going to try to thread something that vaguely resembles baseball), and most likely millitime it to September 19. You'll need to have some time free in the first half of September to "play ball!"
We have space for up to 16-20 pups to be players, and we'll take them first come, first served. They don't have to know the first thing about baseball, IC, though enthusiasm is a must.
We do ask that until we know how much interest there's going to be, you only sign up one pup as a player, so many muns can be accomodated as possible.
And there are lots of other ways to get involved! People can help Castiel build a baseball diamond or weigh on how Meg should adapt the rules to accomodate players who can actually fly in pursuit of fly balls. They can watch the game, cheering for their friends and heckling the other team. People can sell peanuts and crackerjacks! Develop a collectible line of Milliways baseball cards!
And because no Milli-event would be complete without a party, we'll end with an everyone's-invited blow out by the lake!
If all that sounds good, and you want to sign up a player, this the place. (IC announcements and sign ups will come later.)
Leave us a comment with the following information:
1. The pup's name and username (if you're not logged in as that pup)
2. Your name, e-mail address and AIM handle (since there's the potential for a lot of collaboration and coordination, these will be helpful)
3. A short (1-2 sentence) OOC description of how good your pup is at baseball -- do they have superpowers that would affect the game or are they a "normal" human? Do they have a lot of experience or have they never heard of it? Do they have a Cy Young award in the closet at home, or do they throw like a girl?
If you've got questions, concerns, suggestions, scathingly brilliant ideas for things to include, etc., they should go to me (elsinorequeen on AIM) or to Joan (IFeelLikeAJoan on AIM).
Thanks, guys, and we really hope we'll see you when we take Milliways out to the ballgame.

X has superhuman reflexes and and she's got unerring accuracy when it comes to throwing things, though it'll take her a little practice to be really sure of herself. Batting, maybe not so much. She has never played baseball before.

- Felix Gaeta (
- Phoenix; inkblotted [at] gmail.com; ironic segue
- He's a normal human, and while he's in very good physical shape, he's also never played baseball before in his life and wouldn't even recognize the name of the sport. Three cheers for not being from Earth? *cheerful grin*
(And Steph, any desire for a thread in which Carlisle talks Gaeta into playing?)

Lorne's just a regular guy, but he's been playing baseball most of his life. Not in a college or professional way, just in a 'growing up in America' way. He played in high school.

Toaster
(my parents were so cruel),rustedtoaster @ yahoo dot com, and rustedtoaster on AIM.Stitch has never played baseball. He thinks he has though; Lilo introduced him to a wacky Calvinball-esque variant that she CALLS baseball. It involves juggling. As to superpowers that would effect his playing, his strength is never really quantified in canon (3000 times his mass. But they never say what his mass is.) But he has been seen tossing VW bugs around and stopping 18 wheelers.

Grace Hanadarko (
Heather (Heater), heathermerin (at) gmail, eccofiore.
Grace is 100% human and, while she's primarily a college football fan, I imagine she's been playing baseball with her brothers since she was a kid. She probably holds her own -- definitely fast and scrappy. She's not very good at listening to coaches, however.

2. I'm Pen or Nick, nisallen@gmail.com is the e-mail I'm playing with, now, and InsanePenman is my AIM.
3. Momiji is a fit (though not very strong), baseline human who, thanks to attending school where he does, has played a lot of baseball in P.E. class. He's never going to be a great batter or pitcher, but running and catching stuff is right up his alley.

Valerie, shinyhappygoth@gmail.com, shinyhappygoth
It's not his speciality, but Enzo is athletic and into sports in general, and he also has to keep up on anything likely to turn up in a video game. No superpowers, but he's strong and has an excellent turn of speed and quick reflexes.

3. Donovan can't help but know baseball and probably played some in school or college, being a rather normal American, apart from the part where he's a shape-shifter who can turn into a swan. Teja is a dead human with no special powers, has never played baseball at all, but has probably a very mean swing with a bat from a lifetime's (and afterlifetime's) training with a battle axe.

Thanks!

He'll have a swing like a gorilla, but not much of a clue as to what he's doing. Also, I'd love for him to meet Castiel.-

And I have wanted to see a ballgame in the Bar for ages. So hooray!!

Crowley is a demon: superhuman strength, speed, et cetera, and a casual tendency to view the laws of physics as more like guidelines than actual rules.
(This'd obviously make him a good opponent for your sparklepires/angels/other demons/what have you, BUT! That obviously kind of relies on more or less even amounts of such superhuman sign-ups, so if it ends up that he'd be throwing off the balance, I am sanguine with having him heckle from the sidelines instead.)

Okay. This is Arnold. *points up at username* He plays baseball every day after school with his friends. He's a decent pitcher, good fielder, and a fairly consistent hitter. He usually manages one homer every 1-2 games. No superpowers, just your typical nine-year-old baseball fanatic.

1. Edward Cullen (
2. Amanda, wanderlustlover@gmail.com, JGPhoenix
3. Very, very, very good. Blame Carlisle's obsession with the game and having infected everyone in the family to have love it too. They've all been playing it for decades. Also vampire, so super speed/reflexes/strength/agility.
I would not be surprised if we saw a few of them. *pokes her corner*

:D?
Regardless, I submit:
1. Turanga Leela (
2. HI I'M GABBY, b_millennium (at) hotmail (dot) com, AIM handle: LordoLorien
3. Leela is from the 31st century, and therefore has no baseball. They have blernsball (http://theinfosphere.org/Blernsball), of which she at one time played pro. Due to having only one eye, and therefore poor depth perception, she earned herself the title "Bean Queen." Mostly Leela will be comic relief for the game, and help the other team walk runs.

2. Lexie: not.an.effing.barbie@gmail.com; lynne a licious
3. Father Mulcahy isn't terrible, but he isn't great, either; he's a thoroughly unremarkable baseball player. He is a decent catcher, though!

2. Leesha, leeshajoy(at)gmail(dot)com, AIM name 'leeshajoi'
3. No special abilities (yet)--just a bog-standard eight-year-old girl who's never played baseball except in video game form.

1. Raguel (this journal - un_fallen)
2. Holly, ravelfic (at) yahoo (dot) com, AIM = 'unravels'
3. He's an angel, so there are superpowers, but flying is optional and he'll obey the rules to the freaking letter. Unless someone really makes him angry, but I would expect that any flying/angelic shenanigans would be off the field. ;) Or according to whatever OOC guidelines you guys set up! He's heard of baseball but never played it - he would probably be average as a catcher, but very good as a hitter.

This character and journal!
I am Jo, e-mail [deleted years later to keep this email from showing up on search engines], IM is jothrareturns.
Duo knows the rules of baseball well, and is good at anything involving hand-eye coordination, really. He's pretty much baseline human, a fast runner with good reflexes.
