Not officially. I'll be in Atlanta for the weekend to see my parents/hug my cat/get my hair cut, but am intending to drop in on con people for an evening.
(The real question: should I park at Lindbergh Center and take MARTA down, or try for one of the parking decks on Courtland by the hotel? DECISIONS.)
The closest I got was a little one called FairyCon in Philly, and a small one my sci-fi club at Rensselaer hosted. Other than that, no cons really for me.
I have only been to two conventions. One was the 2002 Discworld Convention, and the other was the final NarboniCon, which was tiny and in someone's house and the Greyhound trip in each direction averaged to 24 hours and it was worth it.
Alas, I am actually not going, but I live quite close to it; the trip all in all would take two hours and about whatever it costs for a day.
Unfortunately, I do not feel the need to pay forty dollars to walk around people I don't know in a weird-ass costume (my best friend is obsessing at me to go; I keep refusing). And the options for parking/getting around/staying in Atlanta scare me. I'd stay with my family that lives up there, only they're in frickin' IRELAND.
Last time I checked, return plane fares to the US checked in somewhere around the $3000 mark, and that's before anything like getting a passport or accommodation.
(I've actually never left Australia. YET. I have plans, they just have to wait until I'm a real grownup who can afford it!)
Man, every year, I hate that D*C starts right when school starts, and then the one year in the last four -- and the next couple -- when I'm not in school: I'm starting a new job.
(I am not going, and no, I'm not bitter about it, why do you ask? *sadface!*)
Me! I'm in Europe, it's really too far to go for a con. I do have friends in Atlanta whom the Nazgul and I jokingly call the Atlanteans, and one year, we might go, stay with them, go to the con, connect with people (millifolken and Wraeththuites for me, Star Wars lego freaks for her) and see the parade, and then perhaps go see people and places for a week or two.
