So, many-of-my-fellow-Americans -- how about that snow?

I have no ideas for a witty topic! It is early, and my morning involved lots of steering wheel wrenching and swearing at people who don't know how to drive. Um. Millidailyentertainmentdrabblefest? Discuss what your desk is facing (the parking lot and a disgruntled-looking building employee in a neon yellow vest and a shovel)? HELP ME WITH YOUR BRILLIANCE? Or just come and talk to me!

EDIT: Drabblefest idea -- leave a comment offering to write, and have people make requests from you? Or, something that we've done in the past is: write a comment with a couple requests of things you'd like to see written (prompts have included a color, song lyrics, a character, Lilly Kane's umpteenth marriage...). Then, for every prompt you request, you write one for someone else. So if you give two prompts, you write two drabbles. If you request three prompts, you write three drabbles. Etc. etc.!

That's the kind of thing that only works if a couple people opt in, though. I don't know; go crazy!

It's probably a good thing that you're facing a wall, if you need to write and get things done rather than stare at a bizarre mechanical monstrosity.


It possibly says something about my college work ethic that I hear you say you have a three-pager due at 1, and my instinctive response is: "Oh, she's got hours!" Don't follow my example. Good luck! You have tons of time left; don't despair! It's only a page an hour! Go go go!

Things that are annoying: That Word doesn't recognize a lot of my legalese. (But apparently Firefox recognizes legalese? Really? Legalese and not quesadilla?) And I miss comment notifs :(

I miss notifications, too! I'm pretty sure the cookie snowflakes killed notifs. People started sending them to communities and the notifications started going out to thousands of community members (I got like six notifications for Milliways alone on just one cookie, thanks to multiple accounts), and that's right when notifications stopped arriving in my inbox.

Snow's over for the rest of the week, but when I left this morning it was TEN BELOW. I walked into work like the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man -- big long Captain Jack Harkness coat, snap-up Carhartt lined shirt, biggest and puffiest sweater I own, and thermal below that. And my hair froze. AGAIN.

In front of me I have a scenic view of two Andrew Bird show posters (Albuquerque and Aspen), and two Wilco set lists (Bend, Oregon and St. Paul, Minnesota). To my right is the long floor-to-ceiling window with the parking lot and US 36. The handful of trees is screaming for sweaters.

Slush and wind are gross. Snow is awesome; freezing rain and other stupid weather phenomena are not. Well, okay, they are awesome. I like them anyway. But they are not as great as snow!!

Some of my coworkers walked to work this morning in crazy winter weather! I was actually a little jealous, because it means they don't have to drive in it. Bike-riding while freezing sucks, though. D:

(Well, I did, but it was a] only a little, b] on the way home, and c] while I was listening to 'I'll Make a Man Out of You', so it doesn't count.)

The window in front of my desk at work overlooks a kind of service courtyard thingy whatsit for the three buildings that back onto it (the fourth side is just a wall separating it from the street). Stairwells down into basements and bins and garage doors and narrow alleys for vans to get stuck in, etc. It's set quite high in the wall, though, so when I'm seated at my desk, all I can really see is the office building opposite and all the teeny tiny office people working away inside. I am eternally tempted to try and start a conversation - to tape a big HELLO sign to my window and see who writes back. Only I would totes want to document such an event, and shockingly, I somehow never remember to dig up my camera before heading out in the morning.

Maybe that will be my New Year's resolution.

Right. I don't guarantee promptness, or even success, but I am willing to make a stab at drabbles. Like others here, I'll do stuff for my pups (or at least Felix and Kain; Frederic's drabble cortex is backed up), but I'm also willing to branch out. Avatar, Codex Alera, Star Trek, Heroes... you name it, and if I'm somewhat familiar I'll give it a try.

Caveats: I don't want to do postcanon Golden Sun stuff. Which Star Trek novels I take as canon - or, indeed, have read - is somewhat arbitrary. I won't write "adultstuffs" or angstfic.

My desk faces the wall! But on that wall there is a Beatles poster, on the right of which I have my birthday and Christmas cards blu-tacked to the wall. Rhysbear, two bottles of alcohol and a box of my more expensive jewellery are propped up against said wall, behind my laptop. And to my direct right is my balcony and my big windows/door, looking out over the little wild garden in the middle of my block of flats.

I haven't got a desk. A broken back makes it very difficult to find one at the right height that doesn't cause strain issues, so I'm on the sofa, with the computer on the coffee table (PC, too. Not a laptop).

I'm facing the south wall, which has the DVD shelves and the telly.
