Stand-In DE

It's a well-known fact that Hollywood like to remake things, sometimes even if said things have no business being remade. Sometimes, those remakes do well even if fans of the original rail against it as blasphemy, and sometimes they fail miserably before the pilot even gets out.

What would your pup/s' source material be like if remade to a different genre and/or format?

Tim (Sitcom/Dramatic Romance Film) -

When Tim's fiance transfers to France for her job, Tim's left scrambling to get his situation in order. Unable to find cheap housing in London, he agrees to lodge with a woman he'd gone to school with, but barely knows now. After several weeks of living together, Tim inevitably falls for Daisy (who would probably be called something else, like Charolette), and believing that his fiance is going to just do the same, begins to have an affair. Naturally, Sarah returns from France unexpectedly, and Tim is forced to chose between the two women in his life, knowing that no matter who he chooses, he won't be completely happy.

Go on. Show us yours!

Waaaaaay back when, before I knew the word "Fanfic," I had this idea for a TV series about Knox, set in Gotham that would essentially be about a crusading reporter in a place that needed one. Some of the ideas I bounced around in my head came into play in early OOMs, most didn't. But it would have been the sort of slightly edgy, slightly wacky TV show we saw a lot of in the late 80s - think an USA Network show but on a rainy day.

It's really not hard to take Fallout 3 and turn it into something like Kung Fu: The Legend Continues, with a Mad Max theme, more guns, and less hitting people.

Seconded.

Ummm, I don't think I have any right to talk since I specifically take Mia from the first remake instead of the original source, Lunar: The Silver Star. I play Mia from the game that introduced me to her, Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete. After that, the game has been remade two more times, Lunar Legend for the Nintendo DS and, out in Japan but awaiting American release (and you KNOW I've got it reserved), Lunar: Silver Star Harmony for the PSP. There's also a novel with events slightly different from any of the already slightly different versions of the game. There's also official comics out there mixed in with all the fancomics, some of it detailing Ghaleon's past.

Along with the games and books Mia is actually in, her canon has a sequel, Lunar: Eternal Blue and its remake Lunar: Eternal Blue Complete that she manages to feature in a little. (There are still bromides of this woman floating around centuries after she died, whut?) There's also the personally-disowned Lunar: Dragon Song, which I've bitched about in a previous DE and will hereafter refer to as Lunar: DipShit.

While Eternal Blue takes place 1000 years in Mia's future and Lunar: DipShit 1000 years in Mia's past, there's also the Lunar: Magic/Walking School series that takes place somewhere in between SSSC and EBC. This is both a game that was never ported to America and a one-shot anime.

Along with all of this, the soundtrack has become quite popular and, as far as I know, there are drama CDs. There's also quite a bit of merchandise, especially if you thought to get the Collector's Edition games. So Mia's canon has effectively covered video games, movies/animation/television, music/drama cds, books, posters, mugs, t-shirts, umbrellas, commemorative coins, phone cards, plush dolls, action figures, jewelry, and punching puppets.

What in the world could I remake it into that these people haven't already? And how has it managed to remain popular enough to keep getting remakes almost 20 years after the first game's release and I still have to explain to people just what the heck it is?

Well for Draco there's A Very Potter Musical - which I still need to see at some point.

For George, uh does it count when reality's already doing this? Sci-Fi or Syfy's planning an American remake of Being Human. *is thinking it's going to be in the fail miserably category*

I guess I should be lucky that Kate's canon hasn't got a Saturday Morning cartoon show yet where it could be set in an Avengers styled high school, ala that X-Men Academy series? The biggest problem would be they'd likely try to give Billy and Teddy girlfriends. :p

You really should. The girl who plays Draco is very good. And anything that uses the combination of the words "Death Eater Kick Line" is bound to be hilarious.

I seriously thought I would die laughing from just reading some of the dialogue.

.........why am I now picturing Death Eaters doing a Rockettes like kick and singing something along the lines of Springtime for Voldemort?

It just... It kinda has to be seen to be believed. The song starts in at 3:30 and lasts the rest of the clip.

You mean 'what if Doctor Who was turned into a mad-for-TV movie by the Fox network'?

Or 'what if Doctor Who was turned into a super-sappy romance with less emphasis on, say, end of the world and more on if the hot female lead will chose her twu wuv or twu wuv's sort-of twin who acts totally different than her twu wuv which is what she actually wants out of twu wuv'?

*sigh, ends rant (was V.V. disappointed with the end of last season, yes*

Moffet will save us. With his damn freaky stone angels.

For the record, I liked the Fox film, but that might have been because it was the only Who in sight, and because it used just enough of McCoy to please my inner fanboy, and because Paul McGann really wasn't a bad choice.

Speaking of Fox, did you hear the odd report that Fox is talking about an American version of Torchwood that might actually feature Barrowman? I can smell the flaming wreckage already.

Oh Fox. *headdesks* And watch them put it on the Friday Night Slot of Doom too.

I blame the Disney/Marvel merger for this

Fantastic Four the Musical. It'd be part West Side Story, part Phantom of the Opera and part Planet of the Apes the musical from The Simpsons.

Oh god my mind is creating scenes; Ben singing "The Sword of Damocles" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7AoGZ7_HOs) on Yancy Street after becoming the Thing, a ballet number with Namor and Sue, Reed singing "What's This?" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YaxKiZfQcX8) after some discovery, Johnny and Crystal singing "You're The One That I Want" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gyUWkQj0Q_U)...I think I need coffee or maybe something stronger.

But what song would She-Hulk sing? Or how about the Inhumans? Dr. Doom?

Casualty: The movie
One of the few films of our time to kill off the entire starting cast and replace it with new people before the end of the film. Awarded 0/5 stars by the sarcastic man from the Sunday Times, and 5/5 stars by the Fake Blood Manufacturing Corp, who are calling for a sequel.

I don't think Will can play in this one since what genre hasn't Robin Hood been turned into, maybe a video game, a really RPG heavy one.

The Old Kingdom would also make a great video game and I think you'd play Sabriel or Lirael which would provide for Yrael to be one of the most awesome side characters of all.

Tumnus is another one where his canon has been transformed a number of times, but I think a graphic novel of Narnia could be quite striking.

Jane's canon works so well for a film, I need to think about her.

A Sunday comic strip for The Pirate King since the canon is short but its also kind of lovely and crack filled so I think it could work.

Demeter, I'm not sure really.

Teja's canon would do very well as a movie done in the style and with about the stance and budget of '300'. In fact, as far as bathos and message go, the Nazgul and I agreed while watching '300' that they'd done far better remaking 'A Struggle for Rome' in the first place.

Urquhart's canon would do well as a graphic novel, a great big spectacular one in full colour. The characters are all described very graphically, there is lots of action, and a comic book artist could totally go wild with it.

Annabelle's canon as a Hollywood blockbuster could be good, but probably wouldn't be. I suspect the whole unrequited love thing between Michael and Max would get scrapped and Michael would end up being portrayed as a heterosexual.

Also, Annabelle would end up in a harem outfit or something akin to what Princess Leia gets stuck in in Return of the Jedi for at least half the movie.

I'm not sure that Dave's canon would do well as anything else. I'llh have to think about that.

Kratos' canon is already a manga, video game, and in the process of being made into an anime.

If they DON'T make a TV thing of one of the Watch books soon I will be Irritated. So that'd be awesome.

Giles has been through: TV show, comic books, spin-off books, in-series musical, video games I think... yeah. He's used to this.

Tavi, now: especially the last book of his canon was so CLEARY done with imagery in mind that I actually really want to see it as a movie. I mean. Dooood.

Narbonic pretty much has to be some kind of serial. I guess the most obvious alternative is a TV show?

[identity profile] autocommander.livejournal.com 2010-01-21 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
...not a musical yet.

not a romance yet, either we do not discuss the forbidden series.
