Hi Steph,

I don't think we've done this for a couple years--if we have, my bad.

What song(s) would you put on a Milliways soundtrack? For a certain character or plot, or just in general?

Have a great weekend!
Jenna

Does it count if your character basically made their own soundtrack? Or, well, a little more than a few...

this. :(

This post has been up for more than fifteen minutes and no one has suggested It's The End Of The World As We Know It? For SHAME.

Two that occur to me:
The Creatures - Exterminating Angel (http://www.youtube.com/watch#!v=Cu0DL67iLHY)
David Bowie - Hearoes (http://www.youtube.com/watch#!v=zQFuNHCMF2Y)

And I will go hide in shame for not thinking of It's The End Of The World As we Know It.

Oh and Shell Shock by New Order. I'd find a link but I'm on my iPod right now.

For the cracky, multiverse meetings Megadeth's Sweating Bullets (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PRJ99wuV1ng) comes to mind.

I've got to play the role of the smartarse, and put in Journey of the Sorcerer by the Eagles.

Fatigue and neuropathy, and we're down a couple of people at work, whee?

*slumps*

Anyway general Milliways songs?

Book of Days by Enya or Adiemus by Adiemus for sweeping epic songs.

Two Planets by Bat for Lashes for our many world crossed partners, friends, family, and lovers.

Gonna check my iPod later since got a few other song ideas.

Ditto!

They have such beautiful songs. Also got Zarabande (Thought it sounded awesome in this Nausicaa fanvid that somebody did years back.)

For some reason, every time I hear Starlight Diner (http://www.google.com/url?q=http://popup.lala.com/popup/432627065033676584&ei=ik6eS5b-CYL78Aas5Py7Cg&sa=X&oi=music_play_track&resnum=1&ct=result&cd=2&ved=0CAcQ0wQoADAA&usg=AFQjCNHt337i_ONEkC0KqQEi2XfAXJEQ-w) by Ryan Adams (not sure if that link will work) I think of Milliways. I also like "Take it to the Limit (http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/eagles/takeittothelimit.html)" by the Eagles, because it talks about doors and being at the end of everything.

As for specific plots/characters? Oh man. So many songs. I might have to think on that one for a while.

"I've Been Everywhere" - Johnny Cash
"Invisible Man" - Queen (the Landlord's theme, maybe?)

Had to wait till I had youtube access.

Good group and good song.

For Milliways:
"Love the One You're With"

I'd imagine Mike'd really REALLY likes the "Say Hey (I love you)" song by Michael Franti. (Really I see him bopping to this while like...dusting. That counts as a plot, right?)

And I have to admit that every time I hear it I do a little dance and smile.

Michael Franti!

Heard this a couple of times on XPN (Univ of Penn radio station). Good song.

That awesome OAR song that was going around in Milliways in 2005, "That Was a Crazy Game of Poker." (http://music.aol.com/video/that-was-a-crazy-game-of-poker-live/oar/1917137) I love that damn song and it's all Milliways's fault.

Wow, that it a longass video. Have some lyrics (http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/oarofarevolution/thatwasacrazygameofpoker.html) too.

Smashing Pumpkins' We Only Come Out At Night has always been my Milliways theme song. I mean, lyrics:

We only come out at night, the days are much too bright
We only come out at night
And once again, you'll pretend to know me well, my friends
And once again, I'll pretend to know the way
Thru the empty space
Thru the secret places of the heart
We only come out at night, the days are much too bright
We only come out at night
I walk alone, I walk alone to find the way home
I'm on my own, I'm on my own to see the ways
That I can't help the days, you will make it home o.k.
I know you can, and you can
We only come out at night, the days are much too bright
We only come out at night
And once again, you'll pretend to know that
There's an end, that there's an end to this begin
It will help you sleep at night
It will make it seem that right is always right
Alright?
We only come out at night

There's the original version, or this cover by Fanfarlo that I actually think I'm liking better at the moment. (Except for the voice thing. No one can touch Billy Corgan's voice.)

Closing Time by Semisonic has always been a Milliway's song to me. Particularly the pan-fandom, cross-over aspect of it.

Closing time - time for you to go out, go out into the world.
Closing time - turn the lights up over every boy and every girl.
Closing time - one last call for alcohol, so finish your whiskey or beer.
Closing time - you don't have to go home but you can't stay here.

I know who I want to take me home.
I know who I want to take me home.
I know who I want to take me home.
Take me home...

Closing time - time for you to go back to the places you will be from.
Closing time - this room won't be open 'til your brothers or you sisters
come.
So gather up your jackets, and move it to the exits - I hope you have found
a
friend.
Closing time - every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end.

Why am I so darn tempted to go look through the 'once more with feeling' plot entries again? I wish I'd been around for that...

Anyway. I haven't got a specific song for Sariel yet - she's not an easy person to find music for. For Milliways in general though? Ever since I read one of those 'once more with feeling' plot posts, 'Blackbird Singing In The Dead of Night' has been a Milliways song for me. Oh so very much. Credit to Michael and Kitt, because it's also their theme now, at least in my head. <3!

And oh jeez, I blame another plot post for my thinking of 'I've Been Everywhere' as Destruction's theme.
