Using Fake Tags

Since I'm more or less caught up with August's entries, and will be starting on last month's very shortly, I figure it's time to show y'all how you can use the Delicious tags in place of LJ tags. Some of you may have noticed (or, more likely, may have completely overlooked) how I embed "fake" tags for Teller and Harold into my EPs. I've been doing this for a really long time, close to a year, and it's helped amazingly with my own personal organisation.

But now that there's a game-wide system, I'll show you how to use it, too. All you need to do is enter this code:

<small>Fake Tag: <A HREF="http://www.delicious.com/milliwaysbookmarks/User's.Tag">Character Name</A></small>

to the bottom of your post. Replace "User's.Tag" and "Character Name" with your character's information. And you can, of course, change "Fake Tag" to be whatever you want.

For example, this

<small>Tiny Silent Tag: <A HREF="http://www.delicious.com/milliwaysbookmarks/Teller">Teller</A></small>

becomes

Tiny Silent Tag: Teller

If you don't know your tag, this is where you will find the master list. There are only about 200 right now, but this number will continue to grow as more posts get indexed. While the volunteers are working from the beginning, I'm working backwards to get as many new folks as possible. So, if you're not listed yet, you should be listed shortly.

I'd love to help out, but am probably more trouble than I'm worth in that I have no clue how to work the system.

This is awesome though.

How far back are you planning to go? Or is it only recent? I have a couple of characters who lack tags so I'm being nosy :)

I'm working backwards from this month, catching everything new, and the volunteers are going forward from the very beginning.

A thought. Should those pups who have LJ tags start doing this, too? It looks to me like you can, in theory, see any entry the character's made through the Delicious tag, but LJ tags only let you go back so many entries.

Only if you want. I know, the LJ tag system is sort of a joke once you get on a larger scale, like Milliways.

Personally, I only "fake tag" my tiny-tagged pups in the bar, but since everyone is getting fake tags, regardless of tag status on LJ, it's totally up to you.

Sorry, I'm confused and possibly being very thick. I did the above, then I went back to the page with Vyv's tags, but I don't see the post. What do I do?

It's probably just because it's not been added yet. The entries are all done manually. this month is "current," as in I'm up through the 20th. New entries will always be a few days behind, to allow people to tag into a post. Once they fall off the front page, then they'll be added to the Delicious system.


The reasoning is that if I indexed entries as they were posted, I'd have to be constantly going back to re-tag them every time someone new joined in.

It's a minor hitch, but in the grand scheme, it's a hitch I'm willing to live with.

No. That would just be like herding cats. Though, I am taking volunteers to go do some older entries, and will be doing that until everything is indexed.

I think it's a fabulous idea: kudos and thanks to you. If things are still happening on it at Christmas I can give you some volunteer time then, but I can't at the moment, sorry.

If a tag does not exist yet, can we still do it this way? Or rather, is it automatically created if one pastes this in?

Yeah. Tags are generally two days behind. If the tag doesn't go anywhere right now, it will within a few days.

And you made tags for Julia and X-99 [and Megabyte too, I think, but I had a brief brain fart and forgot to look for him too]! You're so nice!

Well, for a while, I did just have my own account. But this came up in chat a few days ago, so I decided to just do the whole thing.

As of right now, anyone who's posted between July 26th (I think) and August 23d has a tag. So, if you're in that range, you've got one.
