Weekend entertainment!

Did you know that yesterday was Squirrel Appreciation Day? Well, it was and you probably missed it, but that's okay.

What would a [your pup] Appreciation Day look like? I don't mean a birthday or parade or people doing nice things for your pup, but rather what teachers and parents of small children etc. could do to foster an appreciation of your pup. Bonus points if you can include arts-and-crafts projects. ^_^

and now off to the yarn store...

...AHAHHAA.

1) Jack would hate that. HATE. IT.

2) I have images of kids making papier-mache suitcaske nukes.

Also, *head pop up like a squirrel* yarn store? Oooooh, what are you getting? :D:D

Ummmmm... Guardian icon stickers... LARP versions of well-known computer games (absolutely no playing of actual computer games)... Green face paint? And considering his history as Tagalong Kid, it would probably be concurrent with Take Your Child to Work Day.

Extreme Parkour, Base-jumping, subway-and-bus surfing.

It'd be outlawed immediately.

And after it is outlawed, the number of people participating rapidly increases.

Fitting tribute?

Absolutely! At the end of the day everyone gets drunk and fights.

Well, a school-friendly activity would probably involve teaching kids how to spice and can peaches; or color in paper cut-out money bags and use them in a game where whoever has the most at the end wins.

My first thought, however, was giving the girls "Smackers" lipsticks and then letting them take out all the boys in the class by kissing them on the cheek. Like a variant of Kiss Tag. Um.

Um, go to the library and read a book? Seriously, the game says Mia's a voracious reader.

Lucas would have a good project for Lucas Appreciation Day: gardening!

For Bobby, everyone would build snow forts and have snowball fights and eat snowcones.

For Rapunzel? I don't know what they'd do, but I think a lot of yellow yarn would be involved.

Mother Nature already has a couple spread over the world.

KK's would involve writing essays on making new inventions out of found objects. They would make little popcicle stick helicopters or something.

Karl's would involve the making of tinfoil hats and planting strawberries.

Mallory's would be more of a faerie awareness day, and the kids could be encouraged to line all of their windowsills with salt.

...but we want the world to appreciate his canon far less than the truly insane ways it already does already.

Evil Chicken day would be a day to start projects you are never going to finish. It is a holiday celebrating distraction. :D

Amascut's day would be a day of smashing and burning valuable things and things you need to let go.

Sunshine's holiday would be National Experimental Baking Day! Home-Ec classes across the nation would challenge the students to try and bake something new, and people who like baking try and come up with a daring new recipe.

Consider the day a success if the new recipe is worth writing down and making again some day. More bonus points if you give it a creepy name.

In schools, children would create intricate houses, buildings, cars, and trucks out of cardboard.

And then take turns stomping them flat.

...Rachel is rather sad that this doesn't already exist. She's a WAR HERO, GUYS. Give her a holiday with awesome crafts!

Alyx Vance Appreciation Day would involve building robots. I think Gordon Freeman Day is much more likely in their world, though.

[personal profile] acts_of_gord 2011-01-23 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Pretty sure a Gordon Freeman Appreciation Day would probably involve equal parts trying to get the kids to take an interest in science, and trying to get the kids not to hit each other with the Nerf crowbars because they'd damage the papier-mache HEV suits they were all running around in.

And Gordon himself hiding in a building with locked doors and barred windows until the day's over, no doubt.

I've actually millicanoned a day in honor of Felix and his party. It's called Lighthouse Day, and it falls in late March, and he absolutely loathes it. As far as school projects go, I haven't the foggiest.
