I thought - and I may be wrong - that the balance automatically gets used first. I know it worked that way for me when I had some money in there; it took the balance first and then funded the rest of the purchase from my linked bank account.

Well, yeah, but when you're too lazy to get your credit card Interwebz approved by your bank, PayPal just doesn't want to let me use the damn thing. And I thought, in my layman silliness, that as long as you had funds in your PayPal account, you wouldn't even have to enter your card into the equation.

Apparently, that is not the case. Alas.
