Apologies to those threading with Bobby or KK. The mun is feeling very, very unwell. Medicine has been taken and hopefully wellness is on the way. I'll tag everyone as soon as I am feeling less like dying.

Thanks!
Amy

:O!

THAT IS THE MOST AWFUL THING EVER!! You should troll ebay. I've found many auctions there that have large collections. And I know a friend of mine who may want to be sell some of hers, if you are interested. Plus I have a few extras!

I AM SO IN FAVOR OF THIS, YOU HAVE NO IDEA.

Sadly, I am broke as a broke thing this week and in no shape to go about collecting anything. :( But one of these days, I want the entire collection, plus all the nice hardback extras. :D

(except Alternamorphs. I refuse to acknowledge its existence)

[identity profile] lai-lore.livejournal.com 2011-01-29 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I understand being broke. For reals. And! The extras can be in paperback! (I am one of those OCD people who like an entire series in hard or soft back, not a mix of both)

DUDE I KNOW. ME TOO! When I was collecting my series, I ignored those. And now I say I have them all! Even though technically I don't. BUT THOSE DON'T COUNT.
Alternamorphs pfft. Awfulmorphs.

I want the entire series in paperback because I know I'll read the HELL out of them and paper is so much more comfortable. :D But I like the extras in hardback because then they look so professional and novel-like and I get so squealy about them.

(though I'll admit, I've only ever skimmed through Ellimist Chronicles. I blame the fact that I was reading it as a .pdf... rather than the lack of tragic romance that kept me glued to the others. << )

I can understand that. I still can't believe you are playing Rachel with only .pdfs. That takes dedication, m'friend. I couldn't read them on a computer screen, even though they are awesome. Too much eye strain.

Okay, so here's the reason I haven't read the Ellimist Chronicles. I never owned the Animorphs, just borrowed them when I was growing up. When..maybe three years ago I found 30+ of them at a used bookstore for .59 cents and every fourth book free. Needless to say, I cleaned house. Then, going to other bookstores, I gathered maybe forty of them. Still have twenty or so to go, with the megamorphs and chronicles, yeah? So I looked and looked and looked, and finally I had all of them except maybe five out of the main series, Megamorphs 2 and 4 and the Ellminist Chronicles. When I got to this point I started reading. I read up until book..48 or so, because I was missing the book after Tobias finds his real mom and it all got confusing skipping that book. So I stopped. WELL several months ago I broke down and bought the few I was missing off of Amazon and Ebay.. and now that I have them all, I haven't read them. Because I've been reading other things. And I want to read the series all the way through. Again. Except this time with all of the books I was missing. And so I didn't want to read the Ellimist Chronicles just by itself.
And so I'm lame and have it but haven't read it. Although, I LOVED the Hork-Bajar chronicles. I thought it was amazing.

Babble blabble.

To be fair, I collected the books as they came out in the 90s, so it wasn't all .pdf's. But then through parental pressure and the oh-god-this-is-really-scary-for-a-little-kid realism of the later books, I sold them all in a garage sale. I never actually finished the series.

UNTIL A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO when a friend found all the .pdf's for me! The scans are.... decent, let's say, and I read them all (minus Ellimist, though I will eventually read the whole thing, I promise << ) and pretty much immediately apped Rachel at the game I was in at the time. I love her and this whole series is pretty much my childhood in published form. I'm unnaturally obsessed and proud of it. :D

The Hork-Bajir Chronicles is beautiful, that book is so great.

That's sad! Although, not as sad as I am, since I STILL haven't finished the series. Amy told me that you had Rachel in (because she was present when I was collecting the series). And in doing she mentioned that Rachel was dead and I was like "Oh. She dies? Huh." And then Amy felt all guilty for spoiling me, lol.

Oh, this series gives me such many happy childhood feelings that I want to hug it. I really feel like I should app someone, since I love the series so much, but I have never been able to figure out who I would app. I tend to lean towards female pups, and the only other main female character is Cassie - and there was one of her in the bar many moons ago.

I think this series is just so well done. I especially love how it describes each new animal and how it feels to be in their head. It's kind of funny sometimes I find myself thinking about these mindsets as if they are fact instead of fiction. And then I remember and facepalm.

Sometimes I feel horrible for basically spoiling the climax of the series for everyone in Milliways... but I honestly couldn't have taken her from any other point. Playing Rachel through the war would have been so intricate and complicated and the character bleed only sends me running away in utter terror. She's not exactly better post-series, but at least she can only improve from here?

(maybe)

I totally spoiled myself for her death, too, by not finishing the series, then not being able to find the books again and reading a bunch of fanfiction instead. :( I kind of wish I hadn't, and am kind of glad I missed out on bawling like a baby during her death scene... which I only sort of missed out on bawling, actually. <<

I'm so with you on everything! Hugging it, loving it, the experience of morphing - the process and the instincts and everything - I just adore how detailed and thoughtful each and every plot and morph was. Some of the writing was cheesy but I think the plots and emotions were really just fantastic.

There used to be a Marco, too. I don't know what the rules are, but you can always check and see if they're up for adoption! Tobias-mun and I would be glad to have more canonmates. :D

[identity profile] i-scare-monstrs.livejournal.com 2011-02-01 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh, I'm pretty sure that spoilers are a given for anyone in Milliways. We're used to it by now.

And I can totally understand bringing her in from the end because.. she is stable there. And there is something nice about not having to worry about putting a pup through canon. Especially that canon.

I agree with you. Obviously the writing is going to be somewhat cheesy, but in a way that makes it better because it's not taking itself seriously all the time. And it makes the contract between the great parts stand out just that much more.

There's a Tobias-mun? That's got to be awesome for Rachel! Much less heartache.

When I reread the series, I'll see if there is someone I could play. Maybe I'll play Vissor One - hahahaa. (Which, have you read that book? Amazing)

On a separate note: RACHEL AND BOO MUST THREAD. LIKE YESTERDAY. THE END.

[personal profile] theresnodoor 2011-02-01 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I mean, certain books, bringing Rachel in fresh from those missions and experiences? I would not wish that heartbreak on anyone. D:

THE HUMOR. Oh man, the humor in this series is SO GREAT, it still makes me crack up all the time!

There IS a Tobias-mun and he's awesome. Here's his EP, which... also sort of leads into why it is less heartache for Rachel at the same time as being 500 times more heartbreaking. That's kind of been keeping up, too. They're such an odd devoted co-dependent relationship. ♥

Visser One is amazing. I need to re-read that book - LIKE YESTERDAY, IN FACT.

UH, HELLO, WHY HAVEN'T YOU LINKED ME TO A BOO POST YET. <<

(I will tag it like a kid at recess :D)

[identity profile] lai-lore.livejournal.com 2011-02-01 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. That's why I couldn't play Cassie- she just feels it too much. Poor thing.

I KNOW! It's got such great amusement qualities! And, of course, Marco rocks my socks.

*clicks EP like a clicky thing!* I love their relationship. I am anxious to see what the two of you do with it now that you have more possibilities. Anything can happen in Milliways.

It'd be interesting to play Visser One, but I'm not sure I could play Margo's mom. And one would have to eventually become the other.

Boo's latest EP! (http://community.livejournal.com/milliways_bar/23866057.html) WE SHALL HAVE FUN TIMES LIKE RECESS IN KID-DOM!

Also? Why are we still doing this here? We should, you know, AIM.
