Daily Entertainment

Its Friday and Spring is in the air. I'm not actually wearing my fleece jacket this morning and its so lovely.

As a question since I've been thinking lately about courses and studying;

Someone gives your pup a chance to get a degree in anything they want-what would they pick and why? Or if your pup was designing a course-what would it be about and who would they teach it to?

I am going to talk about Albus, because I've already pretty much - okay, more like he pretty much - decided that he's going to want to pursue English literature after he finishes up at Hogwarts.

I AM SO PROUD OF HIM.

Anyway.

That's his plan. :)

And then he's going to come back to Hogwarts and teach History of Magic, which is going to be tricky, considering they'll have to find a way to get Professor Binns to um. ~Retire~.

He could always just teach it in a different classroom. Binns would probably keep right on teaching the empty room all about the goblin rebellions.

Sunshine, pre-canon, might have been interested in getting a degree in Literature (as long as she could specialize in vampire lit. >_>). Or, alternatively, she could let her inner task-master take charge while teaching a course on baking. She'd be tough and demand preserverence from her students, but excellence would be the result.

Yrael likely wouldn't ever specialize so far as to get a degree. He'd be taking courses across the board, like History of World Religions, Biochemistry (to gain perspective, likely while reading the texts for the pre-requisites on the side), Conversational Japanese, Thinking and Cognition (for a laugh), and Physics (just to break the professor's brain by designing experiments that break the laws physics depend on).

Yrael would, however, enjoy teaching a Music Composition course. He'd be the tough, demanding professor that his students are intimidated but inspired by.

Zelgadiss wouldn't be interested in a degree unless it was a degree in turning chimeras back into their component parts.

Ron, according to JK Rowling, ends up doing two sorts of occupations after the Battle of Hogwarts: He becomes an Auror, along with Harry, and, at some point, helps George with Weasley's Wizard Wheezes.

I haven't thought about my personal timeline for him yet, maybe the WWW thing is before the Aurors or after or during, like a sabbatical, but, if he's an Auror long enough, I'd like to think that Ron becomes an instructor of sorts. Surely Harry would allow him to scaretrain the newbies in strategy and tactics?

Part of my personal canon for Scorpius is that, after Hogwarts, he pursues a career in broomstick manufacturing - namely in the Charms division of a company - and much later on, ends up buying a share/into a company.

So, if he was going to teach any sort of class, it'd be about broomsticks and how brooms are manufactured and what goes into all of that. I think he'd be more comfortable with speaking in front of younger children, so maybe he'd give talks to little witches and wizards who came to tour the factories or something.

Good question! I'll pick Ben for this one.

Ben would teach "Super Heroing 101" and the course would focus on the ethics of using your powers, how to use your powers with minimal property damage, first aid and basic trama care, basic physics and chemical reactions. He would steal a lot from rescue workers; how fires tend to act, how building debris tends to act, how to rescue safely in various situations. Also legal ethics and practices would be included and he would bend over backwards to get She-Hulk to guest for this lecture. In fact, he'd often have guest speakers from all of his friend both within and without the super human community.

I can't decide if a review of the events of the Marvel Civil War would be at the beginning of the class or the end, maybe both.

[identity profile] crazyfurries.livejournal.com 2011-03-18 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
....I kind of want to take this course. No powers but dang does that sound interesting and USEFUL.

The grown up Moon Shadow would certainly volunteer to guest speak on ethics, and hero history.

Helena canonically has a degree in Mafia studies. Cause she is just that cool.

And since she teaches high school English I imagine she would have had to do a second degree in literature. Or maybe she did a joint honours or something: Mafia studies major with a minor in Shakespeare!

Tyler would want to go to a class about the plain boring things everyday regular non-powered people do and would love every minute of learning about that. Come to think of it, it would be a handy class for a lot of superheroes to work out how non-powered everyday people live and work.

A class that'd help them to better understand how to blend in.

As those of you who have been following Cyborg know, he is thinking about college. He's not sure yet if he will study physics or engineering, but that is coming.

Kirk used to teach at the academy, though it's not clear what he taught. Something practical, that's for sure. Advanced Getting Out of Trouble, maybe.

Knox still sneers at the idea of higher education. At least for reporters. Reporting, he says, is something you learn by doing. It can't really be taught in a classroom. (Ironically, he buys into the idea of "citizen journalists" a lot more than I do, even though bloggers will probably cost him his job.)

Charlie would love to teach more martial arts classes.

Kate attended Tulane University in New Orleans for English literature. She never completed her studies, due to her father's death back in Texas. I think if she had been able to stay she would have continued to pursue literature, perhaps even picking up a second language (Latin, Russian, or Greek).

Due to the extraordinary circumstances of Milliways, her interests have also broadened. I can easily see her pursuing something in aviation and/or mechanics, thanks to her relationships with certain pilots and gentlemen with very attractive automobiles. She exhausts the libraries upstairs on a regular basis, every time someone teaches her something new.

Bobby has canon stating that he has promised his dad he'll get a degree in accounting, which he is actually good at. He hasn't given a lot of thought to anything else, because he doesn't feel like he has much choice.

Rapunzel had tutors as a child, then began (and still attends) the School of Hard Knocks. (*insert lewd joke here*)

KK has the equivalent of a high school education, but also has a photographic memory, the power to take knowledge from other people's heads and limitless potential.

Amascut actually does teach, presently under the pseudonym Sumona. It is basically an intermediate to advanced level practicum course in killing things for fun and profit. :D

If her brain wasn't stuffed with anatomy facts, she might leap on the chance to take a "Breaking the Prime Directive for dummies" course.

Taking war out of the equation, I think Rachel was on her way to following in one of her parents footsteps, slightly altered - she either would have been a lawyer like her mother, only focusing on civil suits and doing a lot of pro-bono, or gone into television like her father, though she probably would have preferred investigative journalism and field reporting. His job was never specified, but it was general newsroom stuff. She never seemed to really care about her future and just sort of did what was expected, but I'm sure she would have wanted a job where she could yell at a lot of people and make bad people pay hard.

These days, Rachel would scoff at anyone who wanted her to finish high school, much less attend college. As for teaching, she might enjoy teaching gymnastics. Oddly, I think she'd be better at teaching little kids than teenagers or adults.

Academic teaching, I don't think she'd be interested in. She was good at school and took excellent notes but there's no evidence of her ever walking into a classroom with enthusiasm, or volunteering to tutor someone else.

See, this is why I love the DE: finding out things I never knew about my pup.

Alex was hoping to teach the psychology of trauma (from both sides of the coin) at Hendon one day. She hasn't thought about that part of her life in a very long time. Bless. ~pats her~

...wow, I only have one character who finished college. XD (For the record, that's Moist.)
Starting with the two who aren't from Earth: I don't think Cata and Sam's world has much in the way of university-level education (I want to say there's something for magical training, but neither of them would be interested in that; I need to reread the damn book). Even if there were, if they wanted to know something else, they'd stick to the Guild.
Next, the two who never enrolled: While neither Carl nor Conflict Diamond see any point in going to college by now, Carl would probably do computer science, and... I can see Conflict Diamond going for history and/or politics, especially of the international sort.
And to round it out, three who dropped out: Larry would design the B.A. in Inventing Stuff (its lack of existence would be part of why he never finished in the first place); Cosmo would finally finish his math degree, if he really felt the need; and Claudia, when she's eventually prodded into re-enrolling (only because you have to have a college degree for the Secret Service), will probably try compsci again. I think she'll have better luck doing online classes than she did being on campus.

Mia's already chosen her path, sort of: a double specialty in fire and ice magics. But I can see her being interested in studying mythology, both to connect it to others in Milliways and to see if any Earth mythologies contain information similar to the legends she knows about Althena and Zophar.

Lucas has never had a formal education and would probably find the whole thing overwhelming unless someone could ease him into it. No one in Tazmily's had a formal education, or at least there's no obvious school at any point during the town's evolution. (Interesting note: Mother 3 is the only game in the Mother/Earthbound series where we never see a school and none of the main characters are said to be skipping class to save the world.) If Lucas should ever go through anything akin to high school and have a choice of higher education afterward, I could see him being interested in history and, because of his own farming and gardening experiences, agricultural sciences.

Shulkie - [livejournal.com profile] gammagammahey - would teach law. She loves the law passionately (ba dum bum!) and would likely teach at a prestigious university. Jen would read international law all day if she could - it makes her more lethal in the courtroom, and it's the area of law that she feels she's the weakest in. If she taught law, she'd teach just that: international law. The course would be divided into modules with one focusing on extradition treaties since that affects superhero business. She'd have tons of anecdotes and stories from her own life ("Who can tell me what statute allowed the Avengers to extradite Batroc the Leaper to the United States in 2008?") to illustrate the course material, holograms, slide shows, and generous office hours. In short, she'd be the professor I always wanted.

Kendra - [livejournal.com profile] accipiterpuella - Kendra would embark on a globe-spanning epic trip to study with the curators of the world's greatest museums. In her civilian life, she's (along with Hawkman) is a curator of the Stonechat Museum; she wants to go to the major museums of the world and interview the curators there to share knowledge and the simple love of art. And if she snags a brilliant young artist along the way, all the better, amirite? When they're done at the NYC MOMA they can come exhibit at the Stonechat and voila! Kendra has a coup on her hands! (Walt Simonson wrote Kendra as a brilliant young curator for contemporary art - I liked that he fleshed that part of her life a bit.)

Siryn - [livejournal.com profile] waxwontbeenough - Siryn studied at Xavier's school for gifted and angry young mutants but doesn't have a formal college degree (who has time when you're blowing shit up with X-Force?). Terry's a voracious reader and sometimes regrets not going to college but she's got the equivalent of a B.A. if you look at her years at Xavier's and subsequent schooling regimen with Cable. It ain't hard to see why Terry's good at what she does - she's read more military strategy and history than ten generals put together.

Clementine would get a degree in communications and/or hospitality, as a springboard to start her own business. She's always thought she could be a great department store buyer, or a fashion consultant.

Dixie would definitely be a theater major, with a minor in voice, just so she could get a job as a music teacher in case she had to lie low.
