How we connect.
As many of you know, I'm in my almost last semester at the University of Michigan School of Information. I've been taking a course called Information Culture, which is pretty much sociology of the internet.
At the moment I'm working on a paper about Milliways and all the various ways that we're connected to each other. One of the things I find that makes Milliways such an amazing community is how while we start with one Livejournal community, we end up connecting in a myriad of ways. As a way to get a sort of snapshot, I'm looking at the DDOS attacks and their effect on Milliways and how we interact.
I created a short survey over here, which is completely anonymous.
I would be grateful for any response and for taking the time to fill this out. This is also crossposted to my personal journal.

I'd be graduating in the Spring but my cognate was messed up so I'm taking a summer course.

Also, did you take a course involving something called "rapid contextual design?" I don't know if they still call it 501 or if it's still a required course. In any case, you should be aware that contextual design is not as big in the consulting industry as the authors of the textbook make it out to be. I don't think anyone in the firm I work for has ever heard of it.

Yes, 501 is still required and felt like business consulting 101 combined with how to drown in group work. After 500 and 501 everything feels easier. I'll remember that but I'm an LIS person and hoping to be a librarian so it probably won't come up.

I'm not sure I'd go so far to say positive since some of them have been odd, but that class was too much. I think someone described it perfectly by saying its SI hazing, huge group work, time suck and just draining.
