Substitute DE: Crossover canon

So I'm currently listening to the audiobook for Museum of Thieves which is narrated by Claudia Black of Farscape and SG1 fame. I've also got an audiobook of The Odyssey read by Sir Ian McKellan (and let me say Magneto reads a very good Homer). I've also seen a certain partying ninja turtle on both Heroes and House. And I've seen Elle Bishop (from Heroes) and Goldilocks selling Makeup (which is really weird when you think about it) but I am sure I am missing much more.

So my question today is, what canons have you seen mixing? And not necessarily official canon; just actors in other works, narrating books, or what have you. Bonus points for the most crackiest.

Well, David Strathairn's on Syfy's upcoming new show. If it turns out his character's blind, I will be making so many jokes about Whistler's post-retirement job.

Allison Scagliotti and Aaron Ashmore (who's coming into Warehouse 13 this season) were both on Smallville; I am all in favor of this leading to IMDb flu shenanigans at some point. Speaking of W13, there's that episode of Star Trek where ARTIE KIDNAPS DATA. FOR HIS COLLECTION OF RARE ARTIFACTS, DID WE MENTION.

I can't watch The Big Bang Theory with a straight face; Moist keeps demanding to know who dressed him like a reject from the Monkees.

Also, I can recognise Orange County in seconds, despite never having seen it, because I used a couple caps of Colin Hanks in it to make icons for Regulus Black.

A fair number of voice actors from the new MLP series were in ReBoot back in the day. It's more than a little weird.

When I first saw X-men 2 and Magneto was in that prison all dressed in white, me and my sister both said, "I am MAGNETO, THE WHITE!" at the same time and cracked ourselves up. We're dorks.

Remember that show Making the Band?

Ever since I put together that Ashley Parker-Angel is Alex's voice, I can't think about O-Town without it crossing with Lunar. But they do have one big thing in common: Music helps you get chicks.

And if I remember right, Ashley also voiced Ferio in Working Design's Magic Knight Rayearth, which has all sorts of crossover possibility when we start tugging on the threads of the Clamp Universe.

Anything with Tony Jay voicing. Was recently watching a bit of Hey Arnold!, and it was fun hearing Megabyte's voice coming out of Rex Smythe-Higgins.

Oddly enough, I was just watching Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame last night. (I bought the DVD on a whim last week--only twelve bucks!)

Kristen Bell's acting for her cameo in Scream 4 reminded me very strongly of the way [livejournal.com profile] shoroko writes Elle. (It might also be like Elle on the actual show, I don't know, I've never watched it.) I've threaded the Scream character a couple of times for crack purposes and I had to be mindful of not accidentally ripping [livejournal.com profile] shoroko off. It's a rather odd experience. *g*

Also, Mark Sheppard is suddenly in everything I watch. It's always a little weird when that happens.

"Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego?" a.k.a. Commander Shepard (female) and Robin (Teeen Titans edition) chase someone who steals landmarks, talents... OK not that different really.

I'm pretty sure they aren't siblings most of the time though.

Oh, you mean like the way Ellen was raised by Qui-Gon Daddy? Liam Neeson is a splendid voice actor but it makes watching certain canons kind of weird.

As for Gordon, well, his PB was in Speed Racer. I cannot watch Speed Racer without wondering if Inspector Detector has a crowbar under his coat somewhere. And watching The Mutant Chronicles was weird on so many levels because it included Ron "War... war never changes" Perlman, Sean "if Little Red Riding Hood should show up with a bazooka and a bad attitude, I expect you to chin the bitch" Pertwee, and Gordon's PB- among others. Also because it was a bad movie. But mostly because of the actors.

Little Fish is a great, heartwrenching movie, starring Cate Blanchett and Hugo Weaving in not-at-all elven getup.

Another dizzying option is After The Deluge, an Australien mini series, once again starring Hugo. Alongside David Wenham this time.

I'll say here and now that seeing Sariel Rager as an Atlanta paramedic on The Pretender threw me for a loop. It was also pretty excellent in some ways, though. :)

I've also seen Seven of Nine give a press conference on some sort of police drama, no idea which, and Neelix as a seedy karaoke bar owner on Bones. There was much squee, and a facepalm or two regarding the second. Breaking the law does not suit you, Ambassador Neelix. I don't think I'll ever get used to John Crichton or Aeryn being on SG-1, especially Crichton. Oof! As for Morris from ER serving in Easy Company, or if you'd rather Malarky from Easy working in a certain ER... brain! breaky! And let's not even go into what knots my brain was tied into when I realized where else I'd seen TNG's Morgan Bateson, or what Lieutenant Valeris does when she's going by the name 'Samantha'. Gah!

[identity profile] elffreaky.livejournal.com 2011-06-11 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I watched a movie called Speaking Parts from 1988. It has the actor who plays Kai in the show Lexx in it. in this movie Michael Mcmanus plays a small time actor, who is usually an extra, in movies. This man is also works in "housekeeping" at a local hotel. To put it bluntly he's more than just a housekeeper, he's a male prostitute. And just to let you know, there are some major brain bleaching scenes in it.

Yeah that's about it, I've been watch a lot of Black Adder, The Tutors, and Mystery Science Theater 3000 of late.

Clem is clearly under deep cover in these new episodes of Rules of Engagement.

I die quietly whenever I watch the Danielle Steele Movie Kelly Rutherford made: No Greater Love, because it's so close to Dixie in costume, but with a different sort of spirit and spunk.
