Oddly enough, video games. Which I pretty much never play if I feel fine. But they occupy my brain without making me think too much, and allow for easy reach of chicken soup and cherry 7-Up.

Sleep. And when awake, read books of comic strips like Pearls Before Swine or old Bloom County stuff, as they don't require much concentration.

At the moment, I am sipping cinnamon apple tea and feeling deeply, deeply grateful that we're not leaving today until close to check-out time. Thank. God. (i am currently hating on being a girl with the fire of a thousand supernovas.)

Hopefully I can eat something soon. :| All these stupidly late dinners are turning my stomach against me, I think (I can't help it! I don't drive! I'm not the genius who forced me to wait until a little after nine to eat!)

Also, it totally just occured to me last night that Alex has a bandage on his wrist at the end of Skeleton Key. I fully expect and encourage someone to all-but-tackle the super-depressed fourteen-year-old inna bar and drag him off to an amusement park or something to give him the YOU HAVE SO MUCH TO LIVE FOR! speech.

I second that. I am almost surprised that I am not the only one. Seriously, when I had the cold from Hell a month or so ago, that's what i did MST3K and the living room couch.

Orange juice, if I have a sore throat; it makes me feel a lot better.
Other than that, curl up with a comfort book (usually Enchanted Forest Chronicles, though next time around I might put Percy Jackson to the test) and/or a pretty movie (Fellowship of the Ring, when I was in high school).

I crash on my couch with iced Gatorade and, if the situation calls for it, a cold compress for my forehead/eyes. If someone's around who really loves me, they'll pick up some wonton soup for me, too. (Somehow that's my go-to sick soup instead of chicken.) And I either play video games (apparently Final Fantasy IV) or watch something I've seen a million times (usually during the compress situation), depending on how well I feel.

You know that scene in Ferris Bueller's Day Off where Cameron is cocooned in blankets? Yeah that's what I like to do...except I'm a parent and sick days for me end up being play with the kids since it's really a vacation day from work right?

ETA: Speaking of Ferris, I need to listen to that soundtrack today.

I'm with the people who said SLEEP. If I am sick enough to have to stay in bed, comfort movies like Anne of Green Gables are a must.

Watch sentimental movies and re-read books I know and love. Especially when I'm on the mend from a cold/flu, I have this stage where I am very soppy and ready to bawl over stuff, and I take advantage of that to watch 'Titanic' or suchlike fare and bawl my eyes out at the end.

That makes me feel better. Catharsis, they call it?
