(Reposted from my own blog.) Every so often, the question of the day is pretty good.
I gave up on The Simpsons long ago. That it keeps chugging along, apparently relying on the same stale formula of celebrity guests and rehashed plotlines, makes me sad. The new episodes don't ruin the old ones. But they do give me a sense that the people behind the show can't see how much they have sullied what was once the best show on TV.
Special mention for Supernatural, which is still good but struggled to bring it all together last season and maybe should have ended after the fifth year. I worry that it will become as painful to watch as Smallville did over a far too long 10 year run.
Milli-addendum: I think that one of my canons, PotC, is dangerously close to jumping. Maybe a fifth movie would be a bad idea.
I dunno. I stop watching them before that point, and occasionally have to give people a blank look and say "Wait, they're still making Supernatural/Simpsons/X-Files/insert show here?"
(They did cancel the X-Files eventually, right? I stopped watching in season 4, maybe 5.)
OH I KNOW. Red Dwarf. Season 7 onwards should never have been made.
I don't have an answer as TV and myself divorced a long time ago. A few years ago I likely would have said Heroes.
Can I offer a movie that might be beginning soon? Ridley Scott may be making either a sequel or prequel to Bladerunner (). I honestly don't know how to feel about this. I fear it is going to be bad but this is Ridley Scott. I just don't know!
I have never managed to watch all of Bladerunner in one sitting. And I also prefer the version with the narration. So my opinion about this is not the most valid.
But I would rather seen Scott try his hand at one of the PKD books that haven't been adapted yet. (Yes, there are still some left.) Man in the High Castle anyone?
Sadly, my pick is Supernatural. I barely paid attention to it last year, and when I did, I often winced. I never have watched the season finale... and I kind of don't care. I'll stick to season 1 and 2.
This. :( I lasted until about halfway through S6, and...yeah. They should have stuck with Kripke's original plan to wrap things up at the end of S5.
Granted, if the Trickster shows up again, I will return with bells on -- well, for his episodes, at least. Beyond that? SPN ended in S5. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
Season 1 and 2 ftw. :/ I can get through s3 if I try hard. Most days, I wish it had ended with the s3 finale, though I think I watched up until mid s5 before giving up.
Still a golden show in the re-watch, but I like to pretend it all ended after three years.
I have to say I'm incredibly glad Warehouse 13 isn't doing this. Granted, there are still gaps in continuity that make me facepalm a lot, but on the whole it's getting better as it goes along. Otherwise, I don't watch much TV, but I'm sorta with Alex; I do have to wonder why they're still making The Simpsons at all. At this point, if they want to keep going, it would be worthwhile to age people up a little bit. Bart and Lisa in middle or high school and Maggie able to contribute something might shake things up a little.
I do remember there being this awesome fic where there was this singing and dancing demon. It was pretty epic.I think someone made a youtube vid about it or something.
I've given up on House, sadly. It's unfortunate, but what used to make the show so damn entertaining got swallowed up by all the hype it got when it entered its fourth and fifth seasons. Since then, I feel the show has entered a gradual state of decline. To the point where I, a former die-hard devotee, would not really care if I missed the season opener this year.
I prefer to remember the show for its good qualities, rather than its not-so-good ones.
For the record, however, I still think Hugh Laurie is one of the best actors of his generation. He created the character of Gregory House and I grew to love him; I'll still pull for him at the Emmys this year.
I have to agree with you about House, unfortunately. At this point I only really watch it for well... *points to pup journal*.
Though I heard a rumour she's not going to last out the season, so, joy. I get to figure out how to deal with that, on top of all the other shit they did with her.
Since being in grad school, my TV watching has been all over the place so this is tricky to answer but I'll try.
I stopped watching Supernatural due to classes and have never got around to catching up. I own the first three seasons and enjoy rewatching them but I'm not really invested.
I still don't understand how America's Top Model is going yet I keep watching, its rather like a trainwreck.
Rome was a show that disappointed me in its second season, too much history, too much angst and while it was still well done, it wasn't enjoyable.
Desperate Housewives is FINALLY ending this season. FINALLY. So I can't complain about that.
As much as I love it, Burn Notice is starting to get a little long in the tooth this season. It's not as diasterous as the Jesse Introduction of '10, but it's starting to show its age.
Is CSI dead yet?
In Millicanon: Reno should've ended after season 4. The disaster that was Trudy's pregnancy arc shouldn't have ended the way it did, and the utter wasting of Clem, Garcia and Kimball in that float crash will forever make me bitter.

And yes more PKD! I need to read more of his stuff too now that I think about it.

And then the ghost that may or may not all be in Izzy's head appeared.
And someone must have fired the medical advisor.

I'm so behind on TV.
