(no subject)

Is this going to effect crack chat?

I would say yes.

We'll have to find another service...

It's still running, though.

This only affects AOL's official chat rooms, not the private group chat feature. That post is from March.

Edited because Google is your friend~

Well, I guess since crackchat is still there, [livejournal.com profile] calluna is right. Crackchat is a private chat. Sorta. Even though anyone can join. Privacy through obscurity, maybe. But! If this ever becomes a real problem, it would be neat if we could use Jabber, since LJ gives us Jabber/XMPP accounts on their servers anyway. I think group chat is possible, but I don't know if Livejournal has set up their server that way.

Sadness. LJ has not implemented the chatroom feature.

Pretty certain we'd all have to be consistently logged into an LJ account to use that. This would cause problems.

You know, if the chat room was possible anyway.

Nope, I am not signed into [livejournal.com profile] fowl_beast and he is showing up. No need to be actually logged in to LJ itself.

But yeah, LJ didn't enable groupchat, so no room called [livejournal.com profile] milliways_bar to chat in.

No, you can still start private chats from the client and that's how crackchat is done. It's fine :) What they've cut out is the feature that is official rooms they set up and moderate. Basically, they won't make chats but we still can.

Their wordings are so imprecise, though.
