A quick question about renaming accounts

So I've an account that has been a great name for Thalia for where she is in canon. Recently a friend happened to mention something that clicked in my head for a new LJ name for her when goes through some canon and I've already made a new journal for that name. I haven't posted anything yet with the new journal.

I was wondering though, do I need to leave the new journal alone and not make any posts before I do the name change? I ask as there are a few things I'd like to try with her in Mixed_muses but if that will mess up the renaming I won't. I don't see anything on the FAQ about this.

Oh and when I do this, do I need to wait for the begining of the month when Apps are open to make it easier for maintainance purposes or does that matter?

...Um. Do you mean you're renaming your current account, or switching to the new one? Because you can't rename something to that of an account that already exists, and I think it takes at least 30 days for a deleted account's name to become available again for renaming.

So if I understand your question I may have shot myself in the foot. I have both account names set up, so aigiochos can't become chameno_koritsi as I've already reserved the name?

ETA: Reading the FAQ again, I can still merge the accounts as I control both names.

I'm afraid not. D: You don't have any paid account features or anything, though, so you wouldn't really be losing anything if you just move to the new account. I think I remember that having been done before, so long as you clear it with the mods ('cause you'd need to join with the new account).


...Man, I need to re-read the FAQ now. :O

It seems if you control both accounts and neither is deleted you can merge them for $15. I haven't tried it yet as I'm going to use the new name to signal a big canon change.
