Knox is and might always be in love with Rapunzel. He fell in lust with her first, and then to his utter shock, he fell hard for her soul, and her smile, and her kindness, and how she just treated him so well and how he wanted to treat her well. Of all the puplove I've seen, this is the one that mirrors what I see in real life the most, even though Rapunzel is an immortal fairy tale queen, even though Knox is forever just a little worried he'll grow old and she'll leave.

Charlie...he's in love with the idea of being in love, I think. Of the relationships he had, canon and otherwise, they all stop short of true love. I don't think he knows what love really is, and has some strange notion about what it should be that gets in the way of getting there. He's also in love himself a bit more than is healthy, and doesn't see that.

Gibbs loves freedom. Yes, he loves money and drink. But the former gets you freedom and the latter helps you delude yourself into thinking you have it. He knows that freedom is the only alternative to the smothering life of a sailor, or a worker, or a father.

Kirk loved his first Enterprise. Because it was freedom, because it was home, because it was the rest of him. His new ship? Not so much. He also still loves Carol Marcus, mainly because she was the mother of his child and managed to raise that son to be his own man when Jim knows he couldn't do such a thing. It's a strange basis for love, but combined with guilt over David's death and a comfort around Carol, it will bring him back to her in the last years of his life.

Cy hasn't really been in love with much yet.

I'd like to say Shephard's in love with his girlfriend, but I don't think he is at this point. Not just yet. Or if he is he won't tell me about it. Fine time to go all silent protagonist on me again... *sigh* well, anyway. Other than that I would say his home and his duty. There's a reason the boy's daemon in daemonverse AUs is a swarm of honeybees.

Obligatory four forms of romance comment!

Karkat is not fully in the throes of mating fondness with any one person. Canonwise he is definitely flushed for Terezi still, and has a red attraction to Jade, too, and then there are all the interesting and attractive people in the bar, too. He is the equivalent of 13 years old and pretty much made of hormones; his concupiscent quadrants probably won't settle for a little bit.

Same goes, therefore, for <3<. He hateflirts pretty much incessantly, but he is too emotionally exhausted and uncertain how to do it with humans to really pursue a kismessitude. In his head it is still the relationship he values most, and deep down he is afraid he is not important or dangerous enough to attract the rivalry of anyone worthwhile. And his standards are ridiculously high, to boot, and he is more than a little in hate with himself.

He has done his share of casual auspisticizing, but there is definitely not any one pair he sees himself as committed to keep away from each other's throats. I think this tends to only become a permanent relationship later in life, as trolls mature and settle into their ways.

There is a moirail he was born to pacify out there, but he has got to listen to where his heart is up in at first to figure it out. His self-conception as a dangerous badass is in the way; he likes to believe he would be the one who needs to be pacified in a moirallegiance. But he is wrong, and the mysterious forces of troll serendipity have already set his feet on the path to his One True Pale Pairing. But that would be a spoiler!

If there is any "thing" or abstract concept he loves, it's the quadrants themselves; he is a ridiculous romantic. He has reached the point where he is able to admit how breathtakingly stupid and awful most of troll society is/was, but he still thinks humans are insane and deprived having only one form of romance.

Kim Ford: Dave Martynuik. Because he's Dave.

Moiraine: No way is she answering this question in public. Not yet. (Also, it's complicated.)

Louis Hoshi: Felix Gaeta. Among other things, because he's brilliant, beautiful, honorable, altogether wonderful, and one of the best men that Louis has ever known.

Gabriel Tam: Regan Tam. Because of the way she was smiling over thirty years ago when he first noticed her across the room. Because of who she is. Because of her wit and her grace and intelligence and beauty and shared love for their children. Because of an enduring partnership based on all of this and more. Because beyond all his ability to fathom, she loves him too.

Sam Winchester: Is afraid to answer this question because disaster will certainly befall if he does. It always has before, to anyone he cares about.

Jack Sparrow: The sea first, the Black Pearl second. Because they are almost inextricably linked in his mind. Because of wind and wave and space under the sky far from land, amid storm and calm with equal delight. Because of freedom.

Laura Roslin: Is not ready to answer this question.

Blodwen Rowlands: Power. She believes if you have to ask why, you'll never understand.

Nick Sayre: Knowledge and discovery, for their own sake.

Ace is in love with Spoon. Full stop.

I don't think Katya has been in love with anything, really. Maybe Bear, but both of them are cautious, and I don't think either of them have really admitted it to themselves. (Though maybe Bear figures it out, after Katya's run-in with the Mirror) She definitely thought Freddy Mercury was one hot tamale, and she's had her fair share of relationships, though none were ever serious. Including Ignat. Everyone's slept with Ignat.

Romana is in love with Ray, something she never would have believed possible in her previous incarnation.

Laranth is not in love with anything or anyone either... though she'll get there eventually. She's another pup deeply cautious about committing herself so fully to something that can be so fleeting.

Cal is completely devoted to his daughter, above and beyond anything else in his life. She's one of the few people in his life that can immediately move him to violence on her behalf.

Balthazar is in love with Veronica. Another full stop. The whole world has changed, and he still loves the girl he hasn't seen since right after Arthur was king.

Glorfindel... just grins at me with that way he has and refuses to say. I strongly suspect he has someone waiting for him. A very, very patient someone. Poor girl.

Shaz... Oh Shaz. She still loves Chris, but I don't think she's in love with him anymore - she lost a lot of that while DI Drake was in the hospital and DCI Hunt was gone. She loves police work too, but it's very hard to be in love with something that gives you hell back.

Bones is in love with Olga, something he really wasn't expecting... but definitely appreciates!

Felix (whom I really ought to EP when I get home today; someone remind me if I haven't done it by the time I get in crackchat?) loves Sheba. At this point I'm not honestly certain if it was canonically mutual, although milli!Felix believes it was. I admit that I have no idea how to answer the 'why'.

Fluttershy is not into romance at this point. Not that this stops the internet from shipping her with every named (and several not-canonically-named) pony in existence, to varying degrees. This may be a slight exaggeration; I don't think I've seen her paired with Hoity Toity yet, nor have I come across much Fluttershy/Applejack. That said, she absolutely adores animals, in both general and specific. She seems to have a particular devotion to a white rabbit she calls Angel, whose personality is not precisely angelic - although he certainly seems to care about her, in turn.

Sunshine is in love with her boyfriend, Mel. She is also in love with Con and he is in love with her, but both of them have been socially conditioned enough by society to find this love augh-inducing, and they keep skirting around the subject. At least in conversation. >_>

Zelgadiss is in love with Amelia, but doesn't really act on that love. She's a princess, and he's a chimera. There's no way they could really be together, the way things are now.

Yrael is in love, yes. But he just gave me a look so pointed and sharp that I'm afraid he's going to stab me with it if I say any more, so I'm shutting up. >_>

Albus is not yet in love but can so very easily fall in love with Scorpius Malfoy. :) Right now things are brand new and kind of scary and exciting, so the idea of 'love' is not yet in the cards.

Rory is in love with Amy. Has been since ohgodknowswhen and will love her through 2000 years of waiting as a Plastic Roman, through all of time and space, and in timey-wimey wibbly-wobbly situations. (HNNNGGGG.) Their love is so epic, I can't even.

Hermione doesn't realize it yet, but she's in love with Ron.

Artie still has feelings for James MacPherson, although he won't admit it even to himself. He also has a love-hate relationship with the Warehouse.

Twilight Sparkle loves books and learning. Actual romantic love is a complete non-issue in her mind.

D0G loves Alyx and her friends, in a completely platonic has-no-sexuality-or-even-gender-identity sort of way.

The cat, like most cats, is in love with himself.

Will loves Sherwood and Nottingham and his home and wants them to be safe. He still sort of loves Kate Bishop but that's faded as their relationship did.

Sameth loves Kait, his family, creating things and the Old Kingdom, but he hasn't told Kait yet. It doesn't feel like the right time and he's also from a family where love isn't talked about that much but more shown. She balances him and makes him feel like just maybe there's a place in the world for him.

William loves his family, his brother, his mother and his father though he again doesn't say it very much. He loves the freedom of going riding in Arizona and feeling like he can get lost in the sky.

Demeter loves her daughter, the land under her feet, her family and her adopted family. She loves so easily and openly and just gives.

Moist loves the freedom of the road, the rush of making a job work and enjoys Urquhart and Saffron. Love is a word he doesn't use in his relationships.

Jane loves Tom and writing. Tom loves all of her and enjoys that she's not what a woman of their time is meant to be and writing completes her.

Tumnus loves Narnia and his friendship with the Pevensies. They healed his home.

The Pirate King loves being a pirate and his ship.

I will start with the easiest first.

Nynaeve al'Meara is in love with Lan Mandragoran, full stop. He has always seen the woman inside her that is not 'merely' the cranky and prim Wisdom. Always. Who wouldn't love that?

Wonder Woman is -- well. In the past she has been in love with people, and in the future she may or may not spend some time in love with Tom Tresser, but right now she is trying to get back, in a way, to a place where she loves herself and her work without feeling judged for it. Thanks, 52.

Raven is in love with, in no particular order: himself, Coyote, trouble, the world, Moiraine, Ace, Coyote again, and cookies. He and glitter just have an intense case of 'like'. I could elaborate on why if I had a couple days.

Dean is in love with the Impala and Sam. He does not want to have sex with either of them. (Basically they are the only things in his life he has emotional attachment to and that can be classified as IMPORTANT. People from Milliways can be interesting, but they are transient. Angels he's still pretty pissed off at. Sorry, Cas. MAYBE SOMEDAY.)

Galadan used to be in love with Lisen. Right now he is not in love with anyone. Someday, yes. Now? No. He does love a few people, however. Mary Lennox, River Tam, and if you squint I guess Gabriel Tam, though due to a certain lack of inherent personal understanding that he's got with the other two -- deep respect may be a slightly more descriptive term for that last one.

Flemeth is in love with her own history. It's fun!

Sam Tyler is in love with Annie, or he will be in not all that long. He's got to let himself fully believe she's real first, however. He may also be in love with his jacket. Whee?

Michael the Archangel is in love with . . . no one. Not in that all-consuming way that is IN love. Her primary loyalty is slightly more to her ex-Fallen brother than God, however. Because otherwise there is no end to the trouble he could get into. *wry* I guess you could kind of squint and call that 'being in love with'. In a weird way? If you wanted.

X-23 is in love with her friends. Or maybe kind of the idea of having friends, which I don't think that will ever get old for her. I don't think it would stretch the definition too much to say she's also in love with Elle, and moving toward feeling that way about Bruce, as well, even if it's for very different reasons.

Elle is very different from her in a lot of ways, but she is very vitally important to X, not least because she really really understands, and just like X she has no one, or had no one, and has to figure out what she wants and whether she wants parts of 'normal', and what parts she wants that she can't have, and why any of it matters. It would break her heart if Elle went away and never came back.

Bruce is -- X is of the opinion that Bruce is a lot like her in ways that are vitally important to who she is now. They both want to protect people, and they both are very physical fighters, and while he does not kill people (which is better for him), he also has a sort of ruthlessness and concentration that she has learned to appreciate. And he doesn't think she's weird. It's -- kind of because he lets her be herself, and helps her out when she's stuck, and then also lets her help HIM be a himself that is not a performance. I could probably sum it up faster and say it's a partner thing, looking at the last OOM they had together. So. Yeah. That.

Raph is in love with Abigail.
Mike is in love with Mel.

He loves his wife. And his children, his brother, his king. His people.

Carl loves his job; Cosmo is in love with the idea of changing the world come hell or high water; Moist loves his job, and also Doc in a strictly platonic sense (Doc's his best friend, after all); Conflict Diamond, I'm not sure.

Cata loves the fact that she can be an assassin and no one's trying to make her believe otherwise. As to who... it hasn't really reached that level yet, but FUNNY YOU SHOULD MENTION.

First part of Sam's answer is the same as Cata's. He does get the girl in canon, but Kaylana hasn't really come up in his stuff yet.

Claudia is still in the honeymoon phase with the Warehouse, and will never not love the fact that she has an actual family now.

Apollo... I don't think he has any conquests at the moment, not of the sort that he always carries a soft spot for (say for instance, Geoff Chaucer's mum; he maintains she was hilarious). Orpheus is just in a class by himself.

70s!Gene - loves his life. He loves his job, he loves his car, he loves beating up scum. He loves the freedom to do pretty much whatever the hell he likes. He loves that coppers get respect. He loves Manchester, wholeheartedly. He even loves his lads, in a completely manly, comrades-in-arms, beer-swilling and good-laughs kind of way. And his missus! He loves his missus too, even though he probably never tells her, because he's not a girl, ta very much.

80s!Gene - well. Where we are now in canon? He loves Alex, though he won't acknowledge to himself. Probably because he doesn't have to. He knows it, and that's it, but he won't say it, of course. He knows there's not much point. And it doesn't own him. But it's there.

Still loves his job, though it's not as much fun as it used to be. And his car, which is.

So late to this, but...

Lorne loves Jack and Atlantis and his family and the people on his team and some of the poeple on Sheppard's team. Because family is the most important and team is like family. And Atlantis is still the coolest thing he's ever seen, and she (pretty much literally) gets under his skin. And Jack...keeps him grounded. He's home and comfort.

Teyla loves Torren and Kanaan (most of the time, when she's not feeling weird about the whole team) and all of her people and her team. She's very protective, so anyone who requires her protection gets a good dose of affection along with it.

Bertie loves his aunts in that way that aunts are meant to be loved. You know. Sort of...familialy and under duress. Because...well, that's what you do with aunts, isn't it?

Tolkien loves his wife and his children very, very much. He's been in love with Edith for years now, and he can't imagine a better partner.

Nikola loves Helen ~~and Yrael~~ because she can keep up with him intellectually and because she gets that sparkle in her eye when she's interested in something or being brilliant ~~and because he accepts Nikola's ego as warranted and is so much more than merely human.~~

Posner is deeply and desperately in love with Dakin. Or he thinks he is, which amounts to the same thing at his age.

Quatre: It would be too easy, too simple, and too misleading to say "Quatre is in love with Trowa"; he is, kind of hilariously sparkly so, but Quatre is in love with the whole world. While this is true about things -- physics (GORGEOUS), social politics (AWESOME), darning socks (FASCINATING) -- it is mostly true about people. Quatre empathizes with everyone he meets; it's how he operates. But he believes that, for him, to not love everyone would cause him in important situations to make flawed decision due to bias ("hurting person X will cause me less pain than hurting person Y"). Quatre is very very ruthless, and very interested in fairness, so he solves it by loving everyone (making any pain to himself equal, thus removing it from the situation). It... doesn't work as well as he'd like, but given the topic I thought it was sort of on the nose. (This is not to say he is not extra-sparkly around Trowa, though; Quatre just feels that's a bit more complicated than 'love'.)

Cathy: She is in love with the perfect ratio between personal freedom and safety nets; as long as she's got people to fall back on, she's pretty much ready to take the world! She loves her brother, and the Boss (/her adopted dad), acrobatics, and algebra.

John's not in love with anyone or anything. Well, he may be in love with the idea of safety -- but he knows it doesn't exist. He loves his mother.

Finn loves: chocolate chip cookies and hot cocoa, and sketching. Wellard isn't bad, either, at least when he's not being a jerkface.

Legolas: LOVES TREES. And wine. And good beer! And songs. and DANCING. And scouting. And discovering things! And avoiding paperwork. And meeting new people! And talking to OLD people! And the STARS. And fishing, and rafting, and archery!! And... you get the picture, ahahaha.

Helen's in love with books/knowledge/fairness. But she really likes it when she gets a chance to talk to Jamie in a situation where he's not trying too awfully hard to be an idiot. She doesn't have that many friends, and he understands her best of all of them.

Rue is in love with ballet. She's not... really in love with Mytho so much as she is in love with the story and promise Mytho represents; but she does love him, even though she fears that all the ways she loves him are wrong.

Clem - See Icon. Also, good pot, great rock, chocolate chip cookies and sex.

Dixie - Her freedom, her music, and Brisco
