Wild PLOT appears!

Those of you who have been keeping an eye on Felix over the last several months will be aware that his world is in peril. As of his most recent EP, he is well on the way to finding a potential solution, although it will come with its own hazards. But finding out what the solution is and getting access to it are separate things. Separated, specifically, by a dungeon crawl full of bonus bosses.

The first step involving Milliways participation will be finding the entrance. If you've played the first Golden Sun game, you will recall Sol Sanctum. The entrance to this new dungeon is a hidden door in one of the walls of Sol Sanctum. (I'm thinking in that room off to the left of the first big room, but that may be too obvious.) So, first I'll need someone who can find secret doors.

Secondarily, the object of Felix's quest will be protected, by monsters and puzzles. Since I can't think of a really good way to implement random-monster attacks in a time-delayed text-based format, the 'monsters' role will be taken by several of the bonus bosses from the Golden Sun games. These are tough beasties, so for best effect everyone should be able to handle themselves really well in a fight. (Odd or modern appearances are of no concern, since almost no one goes into Sol Sanctum, and Felix can open a Milliways door inside.) Healing will be available in between fights - and during them, to some extent, but Felix will want to focus on dealing damage.

As far as puzzles... Golden Sun has, basically, three types of puzzles, which are often combined. Jump mazes, block puzzles, and Psynergy matchups. You see, Golden Sun's magic system (Psynergy) is unusual among video games, in that there are several spells that are designed to affect dungeon objects. So the puzzles require you to use these spells. In many cases, you can get to where a puzzle is before you have the person or item you need for a particular spell that the puzzle involves, which is sometimes all that keeps the game from being excessively nonlinear. However, that presents a difficulty in planning things like this. Felix has a few such spells, but it's unlikely from an in-story standpoint that a highly-protected thing like this would be accessible with only what he's got. So I'm wanting to know who's interested, and what they can do for these puzzles, before I finish the planning. Especially since, LJ being largely a text-based medium, conveying the jump mazes and block puzzles could be difficult.

Ideally, I'd like a fairly small team, maybe around half a dozen pups or fewer. I'd like to pre-thread the OOM portions, and have the in-Milliways stuff around early November. (This being me planning, we'll see if it's ready that early, but it's a goal to aim for.)

Any takers?

This could be interesting, sure... I have a couple of characters who might be suitable.

Nifty! Which ones are you thinking of?

Well, it might be interesting to send Varric along, if his dwarven resistance to magic (not immunity, just high resistance) isn't going to be a problem. I'm not sure how to get him into it necessarily, but curiosity and an opportunity to find something to finance his brother's upcoming expedition into old dwarven kingdoms might do the trick. He's good at trap-finding and lock-picking and the like.

Actually, magic resistance would be a very useful thing. These are some very powerful opponents, but they mostly rely on spells to do their damage - so having someone those spells won't hit as hard, who might happen to have the majority of the phoenix down equivalents, could well be excellent. And if he'd be similarly resistant to healing spells, well, I daresay Bar could provide potions.

As far as getting Varric involved, would a setup a bit like this interest him? (Except, of course, in the bar rather than a forest miles from anywhere.)

I wouldn't mind offering my cowgirl for this adventure, though she doesn't have any special door finding skills or magical powers. If she can be helpful, though, she's pretty good with her gun and a sharp wit. ^__^

Both of those can be useful! In fact, one of the opponents I intend to include is immune to magic, so someone who's used to doing without it could well be a major asset.
