Where do you stand on Nanowrimo? Are you participating? Do you want to participate and haven't before? Etc etc etc?

My personal thing - I want to somehow mutilate the MUST DO THIS NOW momentum from Nanowrimo to achieve my goal of doing All The Studying during the month of November for my comprehensive exam. I'm just not sure how to pull it off. Any ideas?

Er, the name itself annoys me no end? It's not national, it's international. The internet is not the USA *grumps*

That said, I like the idea of it, but I can't hack it - my anxiety twists me up. So, I'm doing [livejournal.com profile] wrisomifu instead - I can commit to ten minutes a day, and the community is just lovely.

Honestly? If I had the time to write, I would do it all the time, not in a month.

The idea is not a bad one. It's just not one that speaks to me.

Not participating, no. If I were to, I'd try to boost off the momentum with [livejournal.com profile] wrisomifu or [livejournal.com profile] picowrimo or something instead of trying to cram in a whole novel, unless I'd spent a WHOLE LOT of the year prior doing a lot of outlining and planning, because that's the way I write. But I don't think I've had a single year since I heard of the thing in which November was a good month for me to bury myself in any one extracurricular that much.

Yeah, exactly! And there's Yuletide, and working at a school means that busy times for students are also busy times for me, so... yeah.

If I had the gumption, maybe I'd self-organize something in June, but I'm not sure I have that much gumption really. Or that much dedication to the NaNoWriMo concept.

I know there used to be one that followed where people who couldn't do November were given December. But it wasn't by the same people and I'm not sure if it still exists.

Not much better for me, alas -- the first half of December is even busier than November for me at work, and there's Yuletide, and then the holidays.

I think about the only time I could do it with my current job and so forth would be in the summer. And I could do a self-organized one, I suppose, but I haven't so far.

It would be really cool if Milliways could arrange its own version. It wouldn't necessarily have to be 50k in a month either. Just something to fit around player schedules and still encourage them.

I'm doing one of the comic challenges. It means I don't get the fancy website tools, but it's a lot more keyed to my current goals.

My Muses of Productivity and Time seem to be so damn fickle as of late there is no way I am setting myself up for disappointment. I like the ten minute of writing a day group though. = ]

I'm using the momentum to write more of superhero novel! Moremoremoremorrrrrre.

The public library is doing a weekly Tuesday night event! With snacks!

Dude, I would love to read any superhero novel you write.

I hate the fact that it's in November. I have stuff to do in November. Stuff that doesn't involve spending half my day glued to a word processor.

That's why I followed Ashie into [livejournal.com profile] wrisomifu. All you have to do is get ten minutes of writing done per diem.

I tried NaNo one year and discovered it really didn't work for me. Thanks to trying to write my masters thesis, I have issues with writing long things and writing everyday.

Oddly Yuletide works better for me and I'm trying to just make myself write too which works. This weekend I wrote an OOM and a little fic and I've got a number of longer fics brewing.

Finishing grad school seems to have opened up the floodgates of my creativity as did X-Men: First Class.

As strange as it is, what I do is I count 50k by RP. It is because the winter is a hard time for me, so I feel I must be socially discouraged. So at the end of each day I wordcount all of my poses and do the counts by that.

It is not really what they are asking for, but it actually does end up pretty fun.

[identity profile] nobl3sse-obl1ge.livejournal.com 2011-10-31 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Err, socially ENCOURAGED.

[identity profile] kippurbird.livejournal.com 2011-10-31 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm using it as an excuse to get this one particular idea I've been futzing around about off the ground. See if I can actually get it to work. But I like doing it. I've done it since 2006, I believe.

I'm about to say something really straight-up bitchy here --

I hate NaNo. I hate that it happens every year. I hate that it makes people write things that basically never see the light of day because no one has time to read all 39483924329493432 works that get simultaneously posted. I hate that it makes me NOT CARE about my friends who are doing something good -- writing a novel! That's awesome! -- because everyfreakingone is writing a GD novel that month. I hate that my LJ feed and my Twitter feed is taken over for an entire month by word counts. WORD COUNTS. NO ONE CARES ABOUT YOUR WORD COUNTS. FFFFFF!!!!!

... That said, I do support people's endeavors to write novels. And I am a giiiiiant hypocrite because this livejournal? Was created because I wanted to do NaNo and made AN ENTIRE JOURNAL FOR IT. WHAT THE FUCK, MAN.

But if you do it because of NaNo, I am annoyed.

And November is my birth month. YOU MAKE ME SAD ON MY BIRTHDAY. Y U DO THIS, NANO??????

/bitchiness

[identity profile] mercuriazs.livejournal.com 2011-10-31 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
So I take it I should remove you from my get-spammed-with-my-writing filter for this month? XD

Silly Merclet, I know better than to read LJ during November! :P

In all actuality I have zero time for LJ right now, so no one needs to remove me from anything. But in general I'd rather be pointed to someone's finished NaNo anytime after November. :D?

[identity profile] mercuriazs.livejournal.com 2011-10-31 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh lordy lordy, I've been working on this thing for a year; if I finish before I die I will be FLABBERGASTED.

I don't do nanowrimo because deadlines for writing freak me the hell out. To the point where I'm just paralyzed with fear and dread.

But I am pondering maybe doing something art related. Or possibly knitting related. I did pick up this knitting workbook a while ago, maybe I'll try to do a pattern a week or something.
