The final straw.
I could learn to live with the new comment pages. I could learn to live with the hoops we have to jump through to make LiveJournal usable.
But turning on automatic payments without the account holder's knowledge or consent? That is the last straw. If it's not deliberate fraud, it might as well be, and I'm not going to be a party to any business that would allow that to happen.
As of right now, I am done with LiveJournal. I'm porting all my accounts over to Dreamwidth, and as soon as they're finished importing I'm closing them down for good.
This was not an easy decision to make. I hate to leave Milliways; it's been a wonderful game and a wonderful circle of friends to be a part of. But based on what's happened to LiveJournal in the past two days, and how little upper management appears to care about the concerns of the userbase? The community I've loved for the past five years is already gone.
Goodbye, Milliwaysers. May we meet again in greener pastures.

"It actually is not possible for us to enable payments for any account, or to re-enable automatic payments if someone has turned off the plan. We do not store the full credit card information and authorization in a way that can do that here at LJ at all -- all financial transactions are processed at the time they occur through our secure credit processor. Which means that a person must be actively enrolled in the plan in order for that authorization to exist. Once it's turned off (or if you've never been in it), we simply don't have the information necessary to put through a charge."
Using another journal that hasn't imported all the way yet

Bottom line, if you've turned off auto payments or have never paid, there is no way for them to charge you for anything, even if it looks like you're enrolled.

At least re; the past.
I have actually made payments on accounts without my info. It was an accident, and at the time I thought it was cool and lucky for me, but yeah, it went through.
What happened was I was trying to renew Hellboy's paid time, and went through the process, but was too lazy to dig out my wallet. I got to the part where it wanted my info and I just clicked away, intending to finish it later, and then got an email saying it was done.
Idk what happened, but I promise you I never reentered my card info, it just processed on its own without me having auto-payments. And I'm pretty sure I did the same thing for Puss's journal at one point, too.
Don't want to add to the already sour mood, but thought I'd let folks know it's possible, just incase the autopayment thing has happened to them.

Meanwhile I'm going to be stuck for a few weeks before I can port the big-name pup journals over.
This blows goats, and not Frank either.
