DW Re-connect Post

Well, then. This is probably a necessity, or will become one quite soon.

Let us know who you are on DW so we don't lose track of everybody.

Also feel free to post the information for any pups you're moving over. Someone will probably need that eventually, so having it all in one place may be helpful.

This is so very STUPID of LiveJournal to completely miss the point on what their customer base is. No, it's not the kind of people that hang out on ONTD and ONTD Political. You don't need a hundred icons for that. A hundred icons, and a paid account, you need for journal based RPGs.

Which will now decamp to another journalling site. Unless LJ's collective heads come unstuck from their collective rears considerably before Twelfth Night.

I would disagree. I think ONTD and the related communities are really what is driving LJ's traffic these days. The traffic that those parts of the site get is far greater than the rest of the site combined, which means anything LJ doesn't get from account sales they get from ad revenue. That's why there's a giant banner for ONTD on the front page all the time and ONTD-related comms are always being promoted—there are whole parts of the internet that only know LJ as "that place where ONTD is hosted, I guess". We're not their target audience anymore, and they have made a conscious business decision to develop in a way that supports the new audience. It sucks, but that's business. I can't be mad at them for choosing that route (though I can be mad at them for the way they've chosen to do it) and they can't be mad at me for choosing to take my business elsewhere as a result.

However, the account sales they still get from our lot, mostly.

If we desert in droves, then it WILL still hurt their business. And actually, Dreamwidth does sound like a very viable alternative at this stage. Even for an RP comm like Milliways.

I'll be making mirror character journals on Boxing Day, when the family hubub died down a bit. And reserve the names of the two little comms I am gently running.
