Two helpful reminders, the one because people were jazzed to find out about it in the comments of the last mod post, and the other because it's something I've seen people express minor concerns over.
- Since what I imagine was the first rush of imports from us, over the Christmas holidays, Dreamwidth has slightly tweaked how they handle the importing of icons. Now, if you choose to (re?)import icons, DW will import all the icons attached to your LJ account. If the number of icons is higher than your DW account level allows, DW will simply mark some of them as inactive, the same as happens when paid time or icon packages expire on LJ. (example)
- The layout-making community on Dreamwidth is still pretty small, and a lot of us (by which I mean me) are fairly attached to the ways we're used to browsing and reading LJ (by which I mean ARRRGH NO CHANGE IS THE WORST GET IT AWAY FROM ME). I expect this will pick up over time with the new influx of users, but! Until then, here is a handy-dandy tutorial for importing your LJ layout to Dreamwidth (currently works with Flexible Squares, Smooth Sailing, Mixit, and Nebula layouts).

Well, only the journals of Urq and Teja, and then good old 'Suti, have content at all that's worth important, in addition to my mun journal.

Doesn't help me with my friends page, but for the game, it's a lifeline.
...not that anyone but me has this problem, mind. My brain is a special place.

Do you mind if I edit this into the main post? I'm sure we have at least a couple of other people who aren't keen on making the full jump over to DW, but who'd like a better way to keep up with the game than using LJ's RSS function.

Although that, also, is balls.

I did notice, while importing icons yesterday, it will only work on icons that are in the active status in your LJ account. DW won't (or at least it didn't for me yesterday) move over icons that were marked in inactive on LJ (which I noticed while trying to move the icons over of journals/pups I'm not massively active in threading/epping right now, so there paid status lapsed).

When, in actual calendar time and dates, are we looking at Milliways moving?

We are still waiting on some things on DW's end, such as the ability to import a community of this size, as well as the linking-to-openID-accounts thing, and AFAIK we still don't have set dates on that. So… some time after that happens.

DW is working on a fix for this bug, but for right now, you can have all the icons you have on LJ, even without upgrading your DW account. (I fully intend to upgrade my DW accounts when I can, but that's a lot to shell out all at once, so I'm really enjoying this bug until it's fixed.)
If you do go to the 'manage userpics' page, it will force the feature that deactivates your least used icon, and then you'll only have as many as your DW account is paid for.
I'm certainly not advocating this as a way to get out of ever buying paid time on DW because a) it's temporary and b) as an ad-free site, DW needs all the paid account support it can get, but I thought people might be interested to know that's how it's working at the moment.

Thank you for that explanation. I was wondering why I had more icons than I expected when I was threading with one of my newly imported journals.
