Two things tonight, Millipeeps!

Thing the first: we've been getting some questions about when, exactly, the Dreamwidth move is planned for, and the answer is... we still don't know! We have a relative schedule worked out, based on how long we guesstimate various things will take, but date-wise, we are still in the dark.

The reason for this is part ethical, part practical. Because we believe that players' ownership of/control over their content is important, we don't want to start the move before we send out our epic, "Hey, we're moving to Dreamwidth!" email. However! Because we will be encouraging people to import and OpenID-claim as many journals as is practical, we want to make sure the OpenID claim function is out of testing, fully working, and generally hunky-dory before we email 1000+ people all, "Hey, you should do this thing here."

(Also there's some stuff with the fact that we have 500+ more tags than Premium Paid accounts are technically allowed, but DW staff have mentioned the fact that in some cases they can increase the tag limit for Premium Paid comms to ~4,000, but my support request about that still hasn't been answered, and idk what would happen if we tried to import before that, BUT ANYWAY.)

For the characters do you just want the usernames or just the character names or both?

Just character names are fine! It's so that if someone wants to find out who plays John Doe, they just need to search for the character name, and any matching muns will pop up.

That's okay! So did almost everyone else, sob. I am contemplating various options for making them more prominent; if people mess up their own URLs or emails or whatever, I'm not so concerned, but the part about single quotes is super important in a will-blow-up-coding sort of way, so... yeah. Getting people to read the instructions is sort of a priority.

What do we do when we want to add/take away characters later? I have only listed the ones I'm taking, but I am planning to app somebody else once the move is done.-

It isn't super-critical - after all, we do mandate as part of the app process that character journal profiles include at least one way of contacting the mun - but at the moment, if you want to edit an entry, you'll need to contact a mod. I haven't managed to get the 'Edit Entries' function to return anything other than a blank form, and the creator of the program has not responded to my email.

Done! It's not that big a deal; the [at] and [dot] stuff is just to afford a minuscule extra layer of spam protection, both for us and the people who have their emails listed. The only really critical part of the instructions is the part about no double quotes, because they will actually break shit, so unless that's the instruction you goofed on, there's no need to panic. :D

Before I set my contact up I just have one question; for the Username, should we put our LJ name or our DW name? For me they are different.

There are separate fields, so you can put down both if you wish. But if you are asking about the NAME: field, I imagine that is totally up to you. What do you want us to call you? What name do you want your contact info listed under?

I added myself, putting my name as 'KD' (with the apostrophes), mostly for consistency's sake.

And now I don't seem to show up on any of the letter-based lists, although a search finds me just fine.

...Aaaand I also forgot to replace @ and . in my email. Le sigh.

I can edit the apostrophes out if you'd like, but tbh the main way the contact list is useful is so people can specifically search for a mun's contact details. I can't imagine that anyone is going to be browsing the list alphabetically for funsies.

I know we're supposed to be putting our info into the contact list, but if we're not entirely sure of the status of our roster (for example, I know I'm planning on axing a whole lot of pups in the move), caaaan we possibly wait to do this later? (Like, say, after the move is complete and settled?)

Or is this a mandatory headcount-type thing we should get on asap?

Iiiit's probably fine - anyone who's specifically searching out your contact details will more than likely be doing it because you play a given character, or because they know you as Amy-who-plays-Character-X and want to friend you elsewhere. So where the search function doesn't solve it, the difference should be clear. :D
