Milliversary, or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Slowtime
A year ago, a nervous and awestruck seventeen year-old kid, having found this place by way of TV Tropes, posted here about apping a hot-tempered Navy SEAL, and would anyone care to explain what all these funny-looking words meant, or why his EPs looked all funny whenever he copy-pasted them on Rich Text directly from Word? (I still remember one of the first things Cam said to me: “I think I understand what you’re trying to say. Thanks!” I like to think I’ve gotten a little more coherent since then.)
That was…quite a while ago, now.
I’ve had an interesting time here, and there’s a couple of people I’d like to thank for that:
First off, the Half-Life crew, Camwyn and LeeshaJoi, for indulging a hack like me with not only the best fancanon I’ve seen, but countless threads with the pups and one hell of a crossover OOM. Seriously, you guys kick ass.
Secondly, fractaldawn and TuxedoSlack for some impromptu late-night help with the maths – you guys were a huge help. I think you guys boosted my score a whole letter grade.
Thirdly, Camwyn, dapheline, BitternBright, and shinyhappygoth, for offering up their pups for OOMs when I was just starting out and showing me the ropes of Milliways – the learning curve would’ve been a lot steeper without you guys.
Fourth…ly? Crackchat, for tolerating my rants, incoherence, and occasional douchebaggery.
And for helping me find PBs. That, too.
And last, but light-years from least…
Camwyn Megaloceros.
Three words: BEST. MOD. EVER.
OF ALL TIME.
SRSLY.
If her awesomeness and sheer kickassery could be harnessed as a source of power, we’d never need to open another barrel of crude. Ever.
Of course, any power plant that tried to contain it would then overload and explode catastrophically, causing the end of life on Earth as we know it.
Oops.
Like I said, it’s been an interesting year. Here’s to vague conclusions.
