ATTN: MOD POST: THE LEGEND CONTINUES

This is for all the people who're going to be taking the opportunity to shed characters in the move, or who want to retire characters along the way. More specifically, it's for me to handle them properly. Our normal deletion and retirement procedures involve sending an email to the mods so that I can remove characters from people's rosters during app season, but let's be honest- there's going to be a lot more deletions than usual during the migration. Switching back and forth between email accounts to accurately remove pups from people's rosters isn't going to be the easiest thing in the world. So, here's what I'd like to ask folks to do:

- If you want to DELETE a pup during the move to Dreamwidth, there will be a thread under this post with DELETION in the subject line. Tag there and tell me which pups of yours you want deleted and give their journal names.
- If you want to RETIRE a pup during the move to Dreamwidth, there will be a thread under this post with RETIREMENT in the subject line. Tag there and tell me which pups of yours you want retired and give their journal names.
- If you want to ASK A QUESTION, just go ahead and tag the main post. This includes questions like 'who exactly are my pups again?' in the cases of people who've forgotten.
- If you have secret pups or wish to maintain anonymity, e-mail me or ping me via AIM; my email address is camwyn at megaloceros dot net.

ETA: Just a note to add that while we don't/can't/have no intention of mandating individual IC reactions, technically a deleted character is considered officially removed from the continuity of the game.

Okay, per the clearing-up, please disregard my previous comment, now that I know what the hell the plan is.

Still deleting: Carl, Cosmo, Conflict Diamond, old retirements that are not Angel or Imp. (Any of that stuff happened so long ago that I can deal.)

Also still deleting any of Quin's that aren't Mark or Val. Those four won't be re-listed on the new cast list (I'm planning to re-app Imp, but I'll just start over from scratch there).

What I understand is putting any pups under this category means they will still be remembered for having been here in one time-stream, but are also re-appable in One Universe Over, unless we state they can't be in the next modly post?

Moved from upthread, so as not to clutter things up:

If you have retired a character, or are retiring them now, and want that character to stay retired, you should re-add them to the new cast list when it launches (in a few days). As before, characters listed as '[RETIRED]' on the new cast list cannot be apped.

If you have a retired character, or are retiring them now, and don't re-add them, they will remain listed on a legacy version of the cast list for the sake of posterity/nostalgia/preserving game history/etc. Your version still existed in game continuity and their story Stays Happened, but a new version can be apped under the One Universe Over clause.

If you delete a character, then ~officially~ that character was never here. However, we do not and never will police what individual pups remember about that deleted character, or how they react to a new version turning up, or etc. etc.

Or, to put it another way:

I want my character's game history to Stay Happened, and I want to keep other people from apping them: retire them, and re-list them as '[RETIRED]' on the new cast list when that launches.

I want my character's game history to Stay Happened, but I am okay with a new One Universe Over version being apped: retire them, but don't re-list them on the new cast list.

I am okay with having my character technically removed from game continuity (though individual players/pups may remember them or not, as they choose): delete them.

Is the intention to go with this three-category system of dropping characters from here on out? Personally, I am a big fan of it… I don't think I'm the only one who's hung onto a character because I don't want to erase their in-bar history, but don't want to retire them and shut others out permanently.

Deleted, Retired, and Exited, maybe? Departed? That sounds like the character's died, though.

- The Fledgling (Vampire: Bloodlines);

- Tanya Adams (Red Alert series).

Everything else I have listed as mine, can be deleted and released for anyone to pick and play as new.

Could you please define what you mean by 'permanently retire'? Depending on what you choose to do, retired characters may be given legacy status, which would mean that new versions of them can be apped at a future date.

Whatever your decision regarding your characters, you will need to complete the steps outlined in this post; if you do nothing, your characters will automatically be given legacy status and opened up for new apps.

I have no idea what my status is! I only ever played Honoka here, and as far as I can tell she's been completely removed from the cast list everywhere, but I still got an email about the move.

(Not complaining, I just want to make sure everything gets cleaned up properly! Milliways was my very first LJRP and you guys shouldn't have to deal with glitches in your system because I was a dumb noob.)
