Oh dear.

She blinks at him, sadly. Fish and chips.

There's just no helping some people. Bar helpfully supplies her with a slice of toasted black bread, and a bowl full of pelmeni.

And a packet of her favorite cigarettes.

And an ashtray. It's only fair.

He's sort of English, it's not his fault. And they're quite good, he won't be complaining.

She taps out a cigarette, the packaging on the crinkling label all in heavy Cyrillic script. Briefly she cups her hands around the end, then happily draws the dark Turkish smoke into her lungs.

That's better.

He raises an eyebrow as he didn't see a match and ponders a question she would answer,

"I'm Charles Xavier."

"Da?" Very carefully she balances the cigarette against the lip of the ashtray, and pulls the black bread through the pelmeni's creamy sauce. "And that is a good thing, for you?"

"It's who I am,"

He picks up his refilled glass and sips it. Honestly he's better at small talk when he can cheat and look in someone's head but she told him not to do that.

She will violently and immediately retaliate on all further attempts, so it's really better he keeps his mind to himself. Her mind is not for humans to read, thank you.

"Not necessarily. It is who someone thought you should be, certainly." She, after all, can be three people. Or at least, she has three names, all of which mean something a little different.

"Interesting choice of phrasing, but I can see the logic. My parents chose the name and gave me their name. Yet I've made it my own by attaching it to my own studies and interests. Though as a name it only covers part of who I am, a first step,"

Identity is something he thinks on quite a bit.

"Mmm, an academic." He sounds like some of the more bookish Others, once they get going on some minor point or other.

Katya and Bear tend to break out more vodka when these sorts of debates happen. It helps... liven up the conversation.

"Yes, I'm nearing the end of my dissertation,"

He takes another sip of vodka, it doesn't go too badly with the fish and chips.

Rather, the fish and chips don't go too badly with the vodka.

"... it is so long?" Katya hazards, knowing practically nothing about academic life (other than fraternity brothers are annoying and shouldn't be allowed anywhere around objects that have any sort of power linked to them.

Katya was decidedly unimpressed during parts of her time training abroad.

"It can be, yes, mine is nearing the five year mark,"

He enjoys the work a lot so the time has gone by quickly.

Not so long then, as she measures it, but she's sure it must seem long to him, so she nods obligingly.

And refills his glass for him.

He takes a sip, it's good vodka and continues eating. She'd probably be bored if he started to go on about his work.
