I can delete this if someone had something else in mind.

But so I was just wondering: do your pups have any quirks, characteristics, habits, etc. that you yourself have -- or that you find yourself taking on?

Personally, after playing Tommy Gavin, I say "goddammit!" a lot more often than I ought to.

"Frak" has become a permanent fixture in my vocabulary since I picked up Gaeta. My coworkers tease me about it sometimes. >.>

Also, while this is something that hasn't come out in more than bits and pieces in Millicanon, I kind of based his family structure off mine: a small immediate family, but a decent-sized extended one with cousins that were more like siblings. I swear, sometimes I feel like I see my cousins more than I see my actual siblings. *rueful grin*

I second the whole "frak" thing. It's kind of impossible not to use it, right?

I've found a lot of great vegetarian recipes since playing Sunshine, even though I am a long way from being a strict vegetarian. And I tend to pay more attention to the quality of the bread I buy than I did before. When I do buy bread, now, which isn't often, I buy from a local bakery.

I probably eat more sushi thanks to Yrael, but all my snark was there beforehand. He can't take any credit.

Mia has me loving gorgons and other tentacle-type creatures now. And her liking purple cows is one of my quirks.

Lucas probably talks the most like me, much to my own personal chagrin. I can't escape my southern accent, no matter how faint my local peers think it is. I don't think terms like "southern" can apply to the Nowhere Islands the way they do to the United States but he's definitely a farm boy.

I find myself pulling a scowl/pout combo when someone says something stupid, or acts like a div. So, fairly often, then.

Heh. There may have been a few other side effects - rather louder ones - but it's hard to tell. I'm fairly forthright already.

Ben and now Hank McCoy are both foodies because I am. Though they get to practice it a lot more.

And I swear I've pushed myself harder when exercising cause Ben never quits. I also don't' give myself excuses as often for things.

I've been experimenting with eye makeup. >.> Also, my poor therapist gets SO many questions. Bless his heart.

I'd like to think that the balance between quirks I had that drew me to a character in the first place, and quirks I've picked up as a result of playing said character is still in my favour. That goes for all my pups. (Haven't shot a wall, yet. Yet.)

I've seen little bits of myself in most of my pups. When I was younger, Will was a way to imagine losing my temper that I couldn't do in person.

Now Charles has some traits I'd like, he's a lot more patient than I am. I admit that he has his breaking points as do I, but he just takes empathy to a whole new level.

I think this is going to be a long and rather boring afternoon as I'm actually working on my own for four hours, but I do have iced tea.

Edit to add a little bit more as I thought of things. Also quite a lot of my pups are readers and writers who can get lost in a book the same way I do. My favorite part of playing my reader pups like well everyone but Will really is matching them with a book. Playing William has meant I've gone to poke online archives of dime novels.

Whenever I am very much in a Teja frame of mind, I find myself getting more pessimistic and snarky, more unrelenting in what I say and more direct in my opinion. It's a long-term thing, though.

Tower, on the other hand, doesn't do much, even though he's such a strong archetype. I guess I let him pass through me and am what I used to be afterwards, just a bit tired.

The pups I hold dearest always have a little piece of me in them - and the other way 'round too.

My version of Michael is perhaps a little more... lusty (shut up, Tommy)... than strictly canon. I blame this entirely on myself and my reading of the character. Hah. In return, I've taken on a bit more of his logical thinking. I think between writing him and writing Shawn in Psych fic I've picked up a lot more attention to what a character would see that I wouldn't and then applied it to my own thinking. If that makes any sense at all.

Henry and I are definitely very close. He's taken on touches of my insecurity while I've bonded with his love of fine Aloha shirt fashion.

Now Gus... is most definitely the pup I think is *most* like me. We share our deep seated insecurity, anxiety, need for validation, tendency to hit creeper mode around people we find attractive, and pessimism. Neither of us knows what to do when the people we *need* aren't available. And we both love a good meal (and chocolate) and have a tendency to let our own wants get us in trouble. We're both pop culture junkies and geeks. Uh... yeah, I'm kind of the white female version of Gus. This is weird.

Ever since I've started playing Voodoo, "ain't" and "yo" has slowly but surely crept into my vocabulary.

[personal profile] chanter1944 2012-06-24 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not even entirely sure where this came from anymore, as it wasn't revealed in canon... but Sariel is to credit or blame (I say credit, frankly, because yum) for my drinking lavender tea when I can find it.

I always thought that came from a conversation with River though I maybe imagining it, as Sariel and River and tea are interconnected for me.

This probably sounds weird, but I notice myself mimicking the most telltale physical characteristics of my characters. With Kara, it's the mouth. Hers is hugely expressive, and when I'm writing her I'll find myself with similar smirks or lip-puckers, wetting my lips as often as she does.

When I've been playing her a lot I sometimes feel blunter, and if I can say so without encouraging drinking and roleplaying (drink responsibly, kids!), a little alcohol only helps my inner Kara rear her stubborn head.

In my case, I've picked up a lot of Ashspeak. I say "ain't" more often than I should.

When I'm hardcore playing Jo, especially in one of her sidegames, for upwards of four or five hours a night, I start swearing in all my daily conversations. It gets blush worthy.

This predates me actually taking on Aradia as a pup, but I've picked up the emoticon "0u0" and the zeroes version of 0_0 from her, as well as "0kay". And the occasional zero for an O just at random.

With my OCs, I have an amalgam of their quirks anyways, and the quirks flow in both directions. Sometimes it can be hard to tell if I started doing something because my character did, or if the character got their quirk from me.

The biggest is probably that, as a result of the wrestleman and cheese wedge shown in my icon, I've found myself playing fast and loose with English grammar the same ways they do in Free Country USA. Usages like "be's" and "why come" have crept into what would be my interior monologue if it would stay interior for long enough at a time.
