Who has had a plot twist lately? Example: My brother had his gall bladder out on Friday, and was doing great after (as surgeries go) until suddenly his arms turned red. Turns out he's allergic to Percocet! Good times. :(

Alternatively: How was everyone's weekend?

Plot twist of the unkind type: I think my laptop may be dying the slow, true death suddenly, for no reasons I can garner. It doesn't like to turn on or it likes to start up incredibly slowly starting yesterday.

I'm managing without the grace one can assume.

My weekend was good! My local cricket team managed to steal a game through the rain, when everyone else cancelled their matches, so we're top of the league! (with 10 rounds done and 12 to go, admittedly).

Weekend and plot twist: I've spent the last four days laid up due to a slipped disc/sciatic nerve pain. It's slowly healing--yesterday I could even sit for a while and hold my baby nephew without wincing.

I still managed to write ~6000 words on my June Nanowrimo project and finish the edits for my next novel.

My weekend? Is there anything more fun than having to explain to my boss on a Sunday morning how I was partially misquoted on a blog post? Remember, folks: NOTHING is off the record.

Otherwise, was a good weekend. RPed like crazy yesterday for the first time in ages. Played BSG the Board Game Saturday. For six hours! Weird game to get the hang of, but lots of fun once you do.

I've been waiting impatiently for my chance to try the BSG board game! Good to hear you had fun with it.

I ended up not working last night but am working this morning. Though not working as much as I expected, the tradeboard at my work is sometimes annoying. This has done weird things to sleep for me, but last night I read two awesome things on my phone-Winterfair Gifts and Joe Golem and the Copper Girl. Reading short stories and novellas seems to work best for me as I've yet to finish the book I started on my phone.

Also I have the best XMFC cast, I love all the Charles' threads.

I got a gum graft on Friday! It actually was not particularly horrible, but the aftermath is a bit annoying (lots of cold soft foods, odd sleeping positions), though at least I get pudding out of the deal.

One of my college friends came down for a visit! I don't think any of the three of us are going to look t Monopoly the same way again. XD
We also went to see Brave, which is EPIC WIN.

No plot twists over here this weekend past -- I think -- and right now I'm content to keep it that way.

I spent the time trying not to bake to death in 3 consecutive days of 100F+ weather, and watching fire reports from north and south of me (High Park and Waldo Canyon in particular).

Aaaaaah are the fires any more contained than before?

Nooooot really. Here's the full report of all the fires in Colorado as of this morning. High Park is the biggest one - it's more destructive than the Hayman Fire from a few years back, but not yet quite as large in terms of land covered. Waldo Canyon is very close to Colorado Springs; I have friends who can see that fire a few ridges southwest of their house. The Woodland Park fire was actually IN Estes Park, very near the north entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park -- fortunately they got that one under control fast, and it's over. The others are in more remote locations and not threatening much in the way of structural development, at least.

HIGH PARK

Firefighting costs: $29.6 million
Firefighting resources: 19 helicopters, five air tankers, 170 engines,

Plot twist: when I got into work on Tuesday night one of my bosses immediately walked over to my desk and said "Hi! So, exciting news!"

(Which is never a good sign.)

Exciting news: unexpected morphine! (which as a schedule II drug requires two people with it at all times; one of the four people scheduled had his kid like five hours beforehand, so there were only three of us there for a good five hours. good times.)

Don't know if it counts as a plot twist but last Thursday I found out the first mother I remember (I've had a few...it's complicated) was in ICU from a public FB post. She's doing much better now but I'm still a little :/ that my cousin didn't email/PM/call me. (And yes I am giving my cousin some leeway as she was the one dealing with ti in person.)

In weekend fun I spent two days at the beach and swam in the frakkin freezing Monterrey Bay. I swear the water was like 60 degrees at the most! But it was high tide and the kids wanted to play with the boogie boards so how could I refuse? I so need to get a wet suit and boogie boards for myself as it looked like a lot of fun. = ]

Eek, sending good thoughts and healing vibes to your brother! In fact, sending those good thoughts to everyone. It looks like this weekend was a messy one.

I find myself more and more often saying I'm living a comedy of errors, so I don't know if I have plot twists so much as M. Night Shyamalan would look at me and say, nobody would believe that.

It provides good laughs, at least. ♥

I had a lovely lovely weekend traveling to Seattle to see family. I wandered around with my brother, scored a LOT of designer apparel at bargain basement prices, and brunched deliciously. (I also totally winged a cherry crumble, which did not turn out disgusting despite my refusal to use a recipe!) We were in town for Pride, so we got to wander down Broadway saying hello to the marching band playing "The Safety Dance," the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, and some of the entrants in a Doggie Drag Contest, both of whom licked my face.

Possibly the highlight of the weekend, though, was talking to my sister on Skype. She's on a class trip to Spain, and had a lot to report about Spanish soccer-watching habits and many hilarious instances of the cultural divide. (Not least of which being that her dancer friend Oliver ended up trapped with a homestay family whose son is an intense gamer. "REMATCH!" "I don't want to rematch!! I'm not good at this!")

My very favorite moment was her retelling of a compliment some Spanish girls relayed in English. "You are very beautiful for the boys!"

Go get 'em, Tofi.

Did somebody say plot twist?

As of two weeks ago, I was settling down to enjoy my unemployment in my parents' house, revise my dissertation into an academic book, and try to apply, in September or October, for an academic job starting fall 2013.

A week ago Wednesday I got an email request for a job interview.

Now I have a full-time university teaching position with decent pay and benefits, in my hometown, for the year, and I'm not even moving out of my parents' house.

(I was kind of looking forward to the quiet time at home with my book! But I'm looking forward to regular paychecks more.)
