Who has had a plot twist lately? Example: My brother had his gall bladder out on Friday, and was doing great after (as surgeries go) until suddenly his arms turned red. Turns out he's allergic to Percocet! Good times. :(
Alternatively: How was everyone's weekend?

I still managed to write ~6000 words on my June Nanowrimo project and finish the edits for my next novel.

Otherwise, was a good weekend. RPed like crazy yesterday for the first time in ages. Played BSG the Board Game Saturday. For six hours! Weird game to get the hang of, but lots of fun once you do.

I spent the time trying not to bake to death in 3 consecutive days of 100F+ weather, and watching fire reports from north and south of me (High Park and Waldo Canyon in particular).

(Which is never a good sign.)
Exciting news: unexpected morphine! (which as a schedule II drug requires two people with it at all times; one of the four people scheduled had his kid like five hours beforehand, so there were only three of us there for a good five hours. good times.)

In weekend fun I spent two days at the beach and swam in the frakkin freezing Monterrey Bay. I swear the water was like 60 degrees at the most! But it was high tide and the kids wanted to play with the boogie boards so how could I refuse? I so need to get a wet suit and boogie boards for myself as it looked like a lot of fun. = ]

I find myself more and more often saying I'm living a comedy of errors, so I don't know if I have plot twists so much as M. Night Shyamalan would look at me and say, nobody would believe that.
It provides good laughs, at least. ♥

Possibly the highlight of the weekend, though, was talking to my sister on Skype. She's on a class trip to Spain, and had a lot to report about Spanish soccer-watching habits and many hilarious instances of the cultural divide. (Not least of which being that her dancer friend Oliver ended up trapped with a homestay family whose son is an intense gamer. "REMATCH!" "I don't want to rematch!! I'm not good at this!")
My very favorite moment was her retelling of a compliment some Spanish girls relayed in English. "You are very beautiful for the boys!"
Go get 'em, Tofi.

As of two weeks ago, I was settling down to enjoy my unemployment in my parents' house, revise my dissertation into an academic book, and try to apply, in September or October, for an academic job starting fall 2013.
A week ago Wednesday I got an email request for a job interview.
Now I have a full-time university teaching position with decent pay and benefits, in my hometown, for the year, and I'm not even moving out of my parents' house.
(I was kind of looking forward to the quiet time at home with my book! But I'm looking forward to regular paychecks more.)
