Hijacked Weekend Entertainment!

Inspired by getting Recettear the other day...

If it were your pup's main goal, how much < subject currency here > could they accumulate in one week?

Is he allowed to ask his sister? If so, and if it's for a good purpose, then: a truly absurd amount.

If not, then short of doing odd jobs in Milliways, not a whole lot. Even if he weren't still in school, Guardians don't actually get paid very much; they mostly get free stuff and discounts, "for our sprites in cyan" in the Supercomputer and as outright celebrities in the smaller systems. It balances out to a very comfortable mode of existence, but not a cash-heavy one.

The sprite monetary unit is called the unit. Easy to remember. (Though oddly enough, some fans tend to forget and use the sci-fi default of credits.)

Ben, surprisingly, has a lot of wealth to burn which was a big surprise for him. Turns out all those years ago when the Fantastic Four Corporation was founded, Reed had given Ben equity and he'd been raking in the dough.

Kate is another wealthy one seeing as how her father married into the second wealthiest family in Gotham.

Palamedes canonically is wealthy and his only problem is keeping it hidden from the tax man. In Arthurian myth he has holdings in Brittany.

Mars doesn't care.

Julie would maybe be able to scare up a dollar or two in loose change. Her family is not well off and struggles.

In fact none of my other pups have much capital.

Between having a government stipend, tons of assets (mostly jewelry; her collection has pieces that can easily sell for 10,000 silver each) that can be made liquid fairly quickly, and being able to go through the Cave of Trial multiple times a day by herself, Mia could amass ridiculous amounts of silver in one day, let alone one week. She can earn a lot even in Vane terms, which is a pricey city. In Milliways Example: When she had put her mind to it, it didn't take long for her to get the money to buy back Malfoy Manor for her in-laws.

If pressed for DP, Lucas could probably earn a few hundred DP in one week by working part-time in the factory and fighting chimeras. Considering the prices of things in Mother 3, this isn't a whole lot. He could probably buy groceries for himself for the next week, at least.

*prods her newest yet-to-be-ep'd pup/decides to answer for him* Lohengrin can get whatever amount of money the story needs him to have at the time.

You have to wonder about the state of an economy when money spontaneously generates in the innards of monsters.

I actually gave Mia's canon an explanation for this: The mercenary system! Monsters either have bounties due to causing trouble to the surroundings or the remains can be useful to shopkeepers as food, furs, or hides. (Take a look at some of Mia's choices in Lunar cuisine and you'll see a few monsters found in the Cave of Trial.) The remains are magicked away directly to the stores and the allotted amount of silver is automatically withdrawn and given to the person who slayed the creature. This works with SSSC's way of sort of "spiriting away" defeated monsters.

As for Mother 3, the game regularly taps on and breaks the fourth wall. Once currency is introduced, the game lets you know via the save frogs that your efforts in fighting chimeras will now be rewarded in the form of DP. In this game, the frogs are also essentially your bank tellers.

Though I think I prefer Earthbound's way of doing things: The kids regularly fight monsters but are not given money directly after the encounter. But if you call Ness's dad, and you will if you're playing the original game since that's how you save, he'll tell you that he deposited a certain number of money in Ness's bank account. Also notable: Earthbound actually uses dollars as currency and, when the kids travel to foreign lands, there are signs specifying that the shops will accept dollars.

Makes sense! I was just now toying with the idea of the money actually being the value of the monsters' saleable remains, on the grounds that (1) monsters are good eatin' and/or (2) monster feces, etc. are useful in the tanning industry (plus the actual hides, of course).

Save frogs! ^_^

I'm more curious about a frog apparently using a human-sized wheelchair.

Are these... unusually large frogs?

Considering there's a plush save frog that the group can easily carry around, probably not.

Unless they're like the plush teddy bears of Earthbound, which have sprites as big as the party members. But the ones on screen look like large frogs but not unusually large for frogs.

So...a lot?

Jewelry is harder to fence, but easier to carry. Just something to keep in mind if you don't have time to steal a get away car too, or you have to travel to a different timeline or whatever.

Seconding this. The easier to carry part, and traveling to a different timeline. Couldn't honestly say about the fencing but the only reason I managed to land on my feet when I got forcibly transported to 1905 Massachusetts is because I'd just emptied my photonic crystal growing rig and had several high quality opals to sell.

He personally receives 5 rupees every...either every day or every time you reset the game, so that's his personal allowance. But considering that rupees grow on trees, in grass and are just lying around, like. I really couldn't tell you.

Clementine: Next to nothing. See: all of the debt she's in and the fact that, even as a cop, she has to struggle to make ends meet.

Dixie: Could probably scrape together quite a bit. Most of her money comes from charming aristocrats, as the money she makes as a chanteuse goes into travel/food/costumes.

Pinkie makes a living wage at Sugarcube Corners, which probably isn't a ton.

Juliet: Makes a cop's salary, which, as Clementine would attest to, is never enough.
