We've had playlist memes where you suggest songs for others - how about one where where share our own pup playlists?

Or heck, a combination of the two would be awesome too.

Totally letting this cut in line because I am a sucker for music so you gotta deal with it! /avatar state

So how about we post playlists we have for pups (or links) and then folks can tell us what songs are missing. Or post in with your pups and we'll give you suggestions for songs to add to a playlist if you don't have one.

For Felix: Into the Fire and his own game's soundtrack's Venus Lighthouse theme, mostly.

This one seems to work for Kain, though it's obviously not his full range.

I don't actually have music that speaks to me of Fluttershy or Cranky, at the moment.

He really liked the Foo Fighters. Can you tell?

Gordon's playlist: I did this up ages ago for the Livejournal incarnation of Daemonmuses. http://acts-of-gord.livejournal.com/17621.html covers it pretty nicely. I'd also add "Bad" by U2 and "The Gambler" by Kenny Rogers.

Adrian's: I've had this one for a while, although I haven't gone into nearly as much detail about it as Gordon's. Mostly this one was songs that adhered to him over time.

The fiddle-and-banjo-intensive cover of "Back In Black" from the Back In Bluegrass AC/DC tribute album
"Centerfold", J. Geils Band
"Darlington County", Bruce Springsteen
"Death Came A-Knockin' (Travelin' Shoes), Ruthie Foster
"Don't Fear The Reaper", Blue Oyster Cult
"Enter Sandman", Metallica
"Little Ducks", the Crimson Tide soundtrack
"Remember Us", the 300 soundtrack
"Tarzan Boy", Baltimora
"To Glory", Two Steps From Hell
"Under Pressure", David Bowie and Queen

Ellen's:

"Tik Tik Boom", Peter Gresser, Songs From 5ideways
"Where The River Meets The Sea", John Denver
"Two Thousand Years", Billy Joel
"Urban Wasteland", Warhammer 40k Dawn of War soundtrack
"City of Delusion", Muse – this is for when she's in Scourge of God mode, and was first associated with the destruction of Raven Rock in my head
"Locking Up The Sun", Poets of the Fall. This may be the only time in my life that I say this, but for the most part I mean this song ironically. Ellen does not particularly think in terms of heroes or saving the day and she most definitely does not buy into the idea of being able to undo anything whatsoever. It's not that there's a hero somewhere, it's that nothing is going to get better until somebody does something, and the only somebody you can make do anything is you.
"Nero", Two Steps From Hell
"If Everyone Cared", Nickelback
"Wavin' Flag", K'naan- the version with the World Cup lyrics; the soccer parts don't work so well but they work a lot better than the original lyrics
… I used to have more than that for her but I don't remember the rest now.

Heh, [personal profile] varadia and I were just talking about this last night. Mainly because I've had Florence + The Machine's cover of "Girl With One Eye" stuck in my head with regard to Elle for the past few days, and I... wish she'd stop it, but oh well.

For Asami - So a little while ago I randomly saw this band called Moon Hooch playing in Washington Square Park, and after subsequently downloading their album I really associated them with Korra generally, I think because they're kind of electronic, but also really jazzy. I don't know, I'd never really heard anything exactly like it before. Anyway, most of their stuff is instrumental, but their one track with vocals (which I think of for Asami a lot), called "Contra," is actually up for free here.

I also like "Strict Machine" by Goldfrapp, "Charity Song (Gong Yi Ge Qu)" by Liang Long, and if I were going to make an Asami/science vid, it would probably be to Florence + The Machine's "Drumming Song."

For Leslie I don't have a lot in particular - I go with Sarah McLachlan because she canonically likes her so much, and I like "Home" by Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes and "Huddle Formation" by The Go! Team for the show generally, but I don't have a lot particularly for her.

Manny's canon has a lot of great music, with my favorites being Ninth Heaven and Compañeros. But I also like Florence + The Machine's "My Boy Builds Coffins" for him.

And... Elle has a big long list that I just kept adding things too. As mentioned above "Girl With One Eye" got in my head the other day and hasn't left. I think the first song I really associated with her was "Witchy Woman" by The Eagles. "Grounds for Divorce" by Elbow has probably become my anthem for her, a lot because it really fit my mood when I was doing her split from canon. And there was all the music I used in linktext for finishing up that plot, which included "Black Sheep" by Metric, "Life Like" by The Rosebuds, and "Thistledown Tears" by Jeffrey Foucault.

And, okay, this could get really long really fast, so I'm just going to make myself choose remaining favorites, um:
"Chinese Burn" - Curve
"No, I Don't Remember" - Anna Ternheim
"Up the Wolves" - The Mountain Goats (admittedly more Elle-X, but)
"Evolve" - Ani DiFranco
"Circling Around the Moon" - John Mellencamp
"I Think I'm Paranoid" - Garbage
"Oh My God" - Ida Maria
"Public Displays of Affection" - Morcheeba
"Sparks Fly" - Daniel Agust

And really, my playlist for her is pretty long, but yeah.

Playlist format by [info]wastintime and posted in [info]rp_tutorials

Its getting sorta long. Some of these are inspiration for future OOMs, admittedly. I stole this format from Mercy Thompson mun I think, when I was spying on Milliways' friends list out of boredom. It took some fixing as it originally had a play and pause button of sorts that weren't working well with LJ's code.
minkhollow: W13: Claudia playing guitar (doesn't remind us of musetta's waltz)

[personal profile] minkhollow 2012-08-30 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
A few things from my Warehouse 13 playlist that are specifically Claudia:

"Tenuousness," Andrew Bird
"Easy to Slip," Little Feat
"Part of the Plan," Dan Fogelberg
"Cry Love," John Hiatt
"Not a Robot, but a Ghost," Andrew Bird
"Overture," Patrick Wolf
"Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger," Daft Punk
"Gravity Blues," the Black Box Revelation
"Kooks," David Bowie
"Call and Answer," Barenaked Ladies
"Brother," Toad the Wet Sprocket
"Fire it Up," Modest Mouse (this is my ultimate Claudia/Fargo song; if I'd done the Eureka stuff as an OOM the link text would've been 'two of life's best mine canaries.')
Sir Not Appearing On My iPod: "She Blinded Me With Science," Thomas Dolby
Honorary mention: "Everything Bounces," the Stalking Horses - I thought it was a Claudia song at first and then I realised it's actually more about her brother.

This is ~half of my W13 playlist; some of the rest are atmospheric, some of them are about specific people (mostly HG, though MacPherson snuck on there, as did Steve).
minkhollow: (end *all* the worlds?)

[personal profile] minkhollow 2012-08-30 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
As a bonus, these are the songs on my playlist for HG:

"Spiral Stairs," Elf Power
"Fake Palindromes," Andrew Bird
"A Second Out," Roger Daltrey
Hovering on the edge of actual inclusion: "Viva La Vida," Coldplay

I should also note it hit me hard last night that "Overture" also works really damn well for HG.

[personal profile] snowy_river_man comes with one of my all time favorite soundtracks. Samples here (the 'breaking the colt' montage!) and here.

[personal profile] headed4hell's playlist is here. I chose a lot of them for obvious reasons, but some are just so Grace.

My [personal profile] try_corsets playlist is here.

Alanna's playlist is full of milli-related stuff that isn't totally relevant anymore, but enduring favorites are listed below!

Alanna/George:

As Lovers Go, Dashboard Confessional (This really is the most perfect Alanna/George song in existence.)
Bad As I Am, Great Big Sea
When You Come Back Down, Nickel Creek

Alanna-Thom:

Back to Me, Nine Days ("Could you sit and watch me die..." And a DUCK POND. It's so perfect.)
If I Die, Something Corporate
Globes and Maps, Something Corporate
Your Winter, Sister Hazel (AUGH. This hurts me.)

Alanna/Jon:

Hunter, Dido
For You, Barenaked Ladies
Time After Time, Cyndi Lauper & Sarah McLachlan

Alanna:

I'll Make a Man Out of You, Donny Osmond ( :D? )
Prettiness, Noe Venable
Your Armor, Charlotte Martin
A lot of Loreena McKennitt, actually. Alanna is a Daughter of the Goddess, and there's something about the combination of rhythms and the mystical feel in Mckennitt's songs that feels right, particularly The Mystic's Dream, All Soul's Night, Come By the Hills, Night Ride Across the Caucasus and The Old Ways.

And bonus Milliways song: That Was a Crazy Game of Poker, by OAR. Ever and always my bar song! :D

Red/Ruby (the only other fandom of my set I have a playlist going for):

"Werewolves of London," Warren Zevon (Red)
"Hanginaround," Counting Crows (Ruby)
"Take Me Out," Franz Ferdinand (Ruby)
"Tiny Town," David Byrne (Ruby, and Storybrooke in general; I want there to be a vid of this so bad)
"Furr," Blitzen Trapper (Red)
"Wild Wild Life," Talking Heads (Ruby)
Sir Not Appearing On My iPod: "Hungry Like the Wolf," Duran Duran (Red)

This playlist also has a bit of Andrew Bird, but it's either atmospheric ("Measuring Cups") or about another character entirely.
(Fun trivia: "Not a Robot, but a Ghost" is also on this playlist, serving its original function as a breakup song. Graham and Regina, for those playing along at home.)

waddledoodles: (05)

[personal profile] waddledoodles 2012-08-30 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Alright, the Kirbyfied Link playlist:

- Tiny Town (Actually Bubbly Clouds, but I went with "Tiny Town" because...tiny...ahem)
- Checker Knights
- Start with a Circle (not explaining that one)
- Dream Land (this is more of a Zelda thing, but in conjunction with Link...you know...that scene; on a semi-related note, I'm amused that all covers of this theme are lullaby-like and soothing as opposed to the original. Oh Ishikawa~)
- The Greatest Warrior in the Galaxy (because he really is as badass as this song)

Maybe I should include Dark Matter's Last Stand because of eyeballs...

As far as other characters go, [personal profile] jack_inthegreen's song is "The Green Man" by XTC, though I'll also always associate "The Scientist" (specifically the Aimee Mann cover) with him as well because of plot reasons.

"Sword and Shield" by Sister Hazel was my Boromir song, back when I played him.

When I think of [personal profile] bagginsofbagend I usually think of "Concerning Hobbits" from the FOTR soundtrack or "Bilbo Baggins" by Leonard Nimoy.

[personal profile] dragons_emrys hasn't really inspired any musical choices for me, and [personal profile] thekidfrombrooklyn usually gets music from the 1930s and 40s. For some reason I think of "Don't sit under the apple tree" a lot for him. Though thanks to a reverse big bang I just completed recently I also associate "When you were young" by the Killers with him now.

Robert Johnson – Love in Vain
Bob Dylan – I Shall Be Released

(Posting again to avoid editing my comment for the kabillionth time. >.>)

Out of curiosity - when you make playlists for your pups, do you tend to choose music they'd like, or music that reminds you of them? (I tend to do a mixture of both with mine.)
camwyn: Me in a bomber jacket and jeans standing next to a green two-man North Andover Flight Academy helicopter. (Default)

[personal profile] camwyn 2012-08-30 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Stuff that reminds me of them, with maybe one or two songs per playlist being something I could picture them listening to in-universe. (If you go back to my very first Ellen OOM, the John Denver song is cast as a lullabye her father sings her after he successfully gets them into Vault 101 when she's a few days old. The Gambler is on Gordon's soundtrack because I had him listening to it in a hotel room when he was waiting for word about his job interview at Black Mesa. Shephard was singing Centerfold during one of the OOMs around the time the Combine destroyed Black Forest. Etc.)

A mix of both, leaning heavily toward music that reminds me of them. It's been fun at times to take a song the character canonically likes and build a mix around that, though--like an interpretation of their taste.

It's been really spooky, and justifying :D, when I've used a song for a character in-game and it showed up later in canon. Like, I had Charlie sing "Wonderwall" many times in-game and then in his last season he was shown to sing it while busking. It was a real gleeful CANON'S OUR BITCH moment, but also it felt like, yeah, I know his tastes.

Stuff that reminds me of them!

I don't often have a strong sense of what music my characters might like or dislike, if it isn't canonical; this is probably partly because none of mine are from contemporary Earth (and very few of my past ones were, either), but also just because of how my brain works. That said, sometimes the "feeling" of a song will push it more towards one character or another, or else I'll say something like "the feel of it is wrong, but the lyrics fit."

Oooh! thank you! I tend to listen to more modern celtic rock, and none of it has the proper flavor for Merida's story, so suggestions are love!

I don't really have a full playlist, just songs that immediately make me think of Tommy or the show in general, plus "Rescue Me" has an awesome soundtrack of its own. I've taken a couple of standout songs (for me at least) from the show itself and added some other choices.

"Devil" - Stereophonics
"Run" - Snow Patrol
"Trouble" - Ray LaMontagne
"All the Wild Horses" - Ray LaMontagne
"I Shall Believe" - Sheryl Crow (an ALL OF THE TEARS song)
"My Hero" - Foo Fighters
"How Many Friends" - The Who
"However Much I Booze" - The Who (Okay, basically the entire The Who By Numbers album)

Who By Numbers is one of the great boozing-and-brooding albums of the Seventies. And that's no small feat.

"Make No Mistake" by John Martyn works for him as well, I think.
