A Little Bit About Steve Jinks

Hey all,

I know I am already threading with him but this hasn't come up to be a problem however I wanted to make a post here. In canon, Steve Jinks is literally a human lie detector. He can tell when even a master manipulator lies. HOWEVER, with this being an RPG and with wonky Milliway's being Milliway's I wanted to give people an opportunity to opt out.

This Jinksy is pre-canon appearance from Warehouse 13 and so will eventually be working through AU canon (as there are a few things Claudia-mun and I have spoken about) however a lot will be in tact so this is one of them. Feel free to let me know what you guys and gals think and we'll get the ball rolling.

I'm good with him picking up on anything deceptive from any of my characters, although when she gets approved Zira may be a little bit of an issue, as she's a chimp. I'll be sure to warn you one way or another if there's lying or deception going on.

How good is he at spotting lies from robots and/or magical talking horses?

Robots would be difficult so I would say probably not unless they are incredibly human like in facial expressions and mannerisms (think David from Supertoys Last All Summer Long or somesuch). As far as the magical talking horses, depends on the horse. If it were a pony (as in My Little Pony) I'd lean more towards yes however he still may be freaked out however on a more realistic horse (IE: The mythological pegasus or somesuch) I'd lean more towards no.

Canonically, Tavi can lie to anyone he damn well pleases unless under fairly serious emotional stress. Given that this includes a character or two who could tell almost as well without any magical benefits as with, I'd say if he's being casual--not actively trying to hide something--he's fairly readable. If he's actively trying to lie, though, I think he's off the table.

Apollo wouldn't necessarily do anything other than go 'why do you keep telling people it's something it's not?' (Iiiiif that makes sense; I should possibly sleep soon. XD) Not unless you wanted it plotwise.

I also have a legit psychic consultant (Freya) if you feel like making a scene. >> Her life kind of sucked for a while due to being psychic and she's not over that, so she'd probably be pissed off once she realizes what he's doing. She most likely wouldn't out him aside from that, though, just be generally bitter.

If you opt out, we can thread and it just won't be used or come up. This way, I don't need you to avoid me so much as I can just avoid using the skill. Life is so much easier that way and hilarity can ensue.

Mostly for curiosity: How about lies of omission or things that are technically true but not helpful?

I would say if they're not outright lies then the person is safe. Omissions are a grey area but for the sake of RP I will say no the skill wouldn't work.

The Fool can tell when people are lying too, under the assumption that only fools lie. ^^
