Weekend DE: Pick a card

 From [personal profile] death_gone_mad :
Oh what the hell, SELF SERVE TAROT!
First, let
RANDOM.ORG chose an integer between 0 and 23 (inclusive) for you.
Second, look up which of the
Major Arcana you or your pup pulled. Incase you haven't heard, XXIII is now being included in some decks as The Happy SquirrelObviously interpretations vary, especially since it was assigned 23. (A VERY SPECIAL NUMBER!) If you get a 22, I guess you will suffer a divide by cucumber/out of cheese type error sometime in the future
Third, muse about what it all means.

Alfred got the Star.

Some of the description jumps out as particularly fitting: "great love will be both given and received." He cares very deeply about Bruce. Far more deeply than it being 'just a job'. And I suspect more people care about him than he thinks or expects.
He also continually hopes for a better day, both for Gotham, as well as more specifically for Bruce.

Lady Marian: XI (Justice)
Actually this one is rather fitting all things considered. Both that she fights for justice, she acts from a fair and just set of mind (even when it continues to hurt her life, and she sacrifices herself, frequently, for the good of others) and even in the rigid edges of not being able or willing to bend at times.

Edward Cullen: VIII (Strenght)
I'm trying not to laugh, mostly because this is the card with a naked young woman closing a lion jaws through the strength of Faith/Belief alone usually. And. Just. He's got five million issues trapped under his shiny bronze hair and adonis cupcake face, but the man has an endless supply of spine deep, arctic quiet, fortitude. Because of his powers and his life.

So. Yeah. I could go with this, even when I know some others that match truer.

Peeta Mellark: XIII (Death)
Given that the Death card is all about Rebirth (and not about things have catastrophic events, please see: The Tower and Ten of Swords) actually fits him amazingly. The boy who really is all about turning things around with the smallest motion. Who does everything behind the scenes, whether by people not noticing or by deflection and showing them a popular face they assume he is.

By being the dandelion symbol. And the painter. And the willing sacrifice.

Yeah. Peeta could totally be your Death card. Happily, even.

Mary Margaret: IX (The Hermit)
This cards very much so fits MM (but I would argue very much does not fit Snow, who is mostly all opposing attributes of MM). This is about the going into yourself to recharge, but also about holding the lateen, the light, the truth out to other who are searching. Though usually the Hermit, itself, can't always sit. Again. Really fitting while under the curse.

Also, it's fitting that when it shows up it usually means someone is coming to teach you things. And look. There's your daughter in the guise of your best friend come to wake you up.

Jean Grey: VII (The Chariot)
Strength and control over the forces of nature. This is the card that triumphs over all that it surveys. Physical and metaphorical. Control of evil, dominion over those who stand against you. About people who can achieve greatness if they simple seek and strive for it.

You really couldn't put it better for The Phoenix without giving her Judgement or The World.

Star: Hahaha…no. She's very much herself. Number XVII.

Felix gets Judgment.

"...indicates a life lived to its fullest...awakening and renewal... Reversed, Judgment is a sign of weakness and ineffectuality. It shows a failure to find happiness, in part due to lack of effort or readiness. It may also indicate losses..."

(Amusingly, Chrome thinks "ineffectuality" should be "ineffability".)

I'm not seeing a lot of relevance there, except for one and a half of the three or four "reversed" points. Let's see what the others come up with...

Kain is... The Lovers. Oh, my.

"...traditionally indicates someone who must make a decision and overcome temptation...that we are beings who struggle between sacred and profane love." Sounds like Kain, all right.

As for Fluttershy... The Star.

"...showing us that if we just stop to listen, the truth will reveal itself...indicates that great love will be both given and received." I suppose that works.

And Cranky... Temperance.

"...shows adaptation and modification -- someone who uses their wit and skills to adjust to new and unfamiliar experiences. Temperance also reminds us to work in harmony with others, and that we can find successful results with well-thought teamwork."

...

Link got 23 (The World) which is fitting once he reaches the end of his journey (right now I'd peg him as 0, the Fool) and Pit got 7, the Chariot, which is the exact arcana I picked for him in this Persona game I'm apping him to.
balancingminds: (rage and serenity with Erik)

Oh wow, I got Justice for Charles and it seems really dead on as he's about balance and fairness.

In terms of personalities, the balanced individual is one who knows how to get rid of excess baggage and toxic relationships, while maintaining positive and uplifting influences in their life. The Justice card may also symbolize a desire for higher education, leading to a well-balanced mind and soul. This sounds like Charles.

I then got the High Priestess for myself and she's one who's turned up in readings I've done before. She's someone I'd like to be like.

Will Scarlett: I got the Devil for him, which is interesting. I don't really see it fitting him.

Jane Austen: The High Priestess which fits her quite well, not at this moment in time but for her, yes. She is balance and power in a feminine form. In a spread she often represents an unrevealed future with hidden influences at work, and a need to trust in one's intuition.

Sameth: Judgement, which is unexpected but I think does fit him. At least it fits where he's going as he has found his path. This card shows a change in personal perception, and a new ability to blend with the greater surroundings. This line especially is very much where he is post-canon.

William The World, I'd say that the reversed meaning listed fits him but he's also tied to the cycles of life and learning how to go beyond one to the next. I can see this working.

Moist The Fool, which to me is rather appropriate, he's on the road and not quite himself or anyone else. The Fool is the agent of fortune, and despite the possible risks or unknown that lies ahead, it's worth it to follow one's heart and accept the new changes. This is how Moist lives his life.

I'm not going to do Demeter as it feels odd to try and slot her into another way of defining as she has her own. And really, she can't be anyone but the Empress, who is connected to her.

Tumnus The Chariot, which while unexpected I think fits him though he wouldn't agree. Finally, we have the power to achieve victory against our own baser instincts -- this is a card of someone who can achieve greatness, should they set their mind to it.

The Pirate King is also a little odd for this, so I'll leave him be.

As I've just started sneezing, I think its time to move on to whatever my next stop is. I'll be around and about today.

Gene pulled the Lovers. Strangely, it turned out to be rather apt.

they know that to have a successful life together they must find balance between the conscious mind and their subconscious desires.

Considering he lives in a world built by his subconscious, but will have to come back to the bar for Alex - yep, that fits.

When the Lovers appear, it traditionally indicates someone who must make a decision and overcome temptation.

Yep.

This card represents the balance between the inner and outer aspects of our lives.

Couldn't describe him better.

And for Alex, Judgement.

The Judgment card indicates a life lived to its fullest, someone who has taken all the necessary steps on their journey to advancement. It indicates awakening and renewal, on spiritual, emotional and physical levels... This card shows a change in personal perception, and a new ability to blend with the greater surroundings.

Also, terribly apropos.

Gaeta got The Emperor.

...anyone who knows BSG canon and knows where in BSG canon Gaeta currently sits will also know why I have my head in my hands right now, laughing in a very strangled kind of way.

Erik got Death.

Errm, not really seeing this one.

On the other hand, looking at the description again, Transformation and New opportunities. A period of upheaval. Yeah he's going through that now, and so I suppose the renewal and rebirth will come in time.

Maybe not as bad as I first thought.

Jack gets the Wheel of Fortune.

Not being governed by fate or fortune? Success due to intelligent decisions? A change of fortune for the better? Or significant creative evolution?

Jack can just about appreciate the concept of the first two of these. But he's not seeing any of this in his life. And I'm not seeing it much in his future, either.

Cata: The World: It is the card of freedom and liberation on many different levels, and indicates triumph in all undertakings. I can buy that one, all things considered.
Sam: The Hanged Man. The youth has evolved from his position as Fool, and as his journey continues he knows he must make sacrifices. This sacrifice is a spiritual one, and once he has completed his ordeal, he will experience a transformation, much like the Norse god Odin did after spending nine days hanging in the tree of knowledge.
I WOULD JUST LIKE TO NOTE THAT PRETTY MUCH EXACTLY HAPPENS IN CANON
Claudia: Justice. The sword's double edges remind us that actions can build as well as destroy, and that to have truth, falsehood must be cut away. Pretty well matched to her job (both current and eventual), I feel.
Apollo... declines. XD
Imp: The Emperor. The Emperor is a war-maker, a leader, and represents the results of taking action. Given that his canon's predicated on what happens when he leaves home, that works.
Regulus: The Devil. When the Devil appears in a Tarot spread, look for discontent and depression, or possible emotional stagnation. ...So, where he is right now.
Red: The Tower, and the reason I insisted on doing the aspects of her separately: When the Tower appears in a Tarot reading, it indicates big changes, conflict and catastrophe. Not only that, but there will be an overthrow of existing ways of life -- look for someone whose world is about to change dramatically, and have their world completely disrupted. WHY YES RED HELLO (ALSO HI REGINA HOW ARE YOU TODAY).
Ruby: The High Priestess. Overall I'm not convinced, but: In a spread she often represents an unrevealed future with hidden influences at work, and a need to trust in one's intuition. yeeeeeeeeeah.

Voodoo got Death. John got The Happy Squirrel.

I will leave all interpretation up to you, dear reader.

...Thor got 22. Divide by cucumber! *laughing* Well okay then.

River got The Devil. Which, according to this site, "represents bondage to the material world" and indicates "discontent and depression, or possible emotional stagnation. This can also indicate someone who is so tied to the material that they neglect the spiritual aspects of their lives. The Devil is the card of addiction and bad decision-making."

Yeah, uh, I'm not seeing it.

Trowa got The Hermit. The Hermit "offers silent counsel and wisdom from above," and "that you have a chance to recieve wisdom from the Divine, or from the spirit world. This can also indicate a meeting with a mentor or teacher, or an encounter with someone who can guide and lead you in your upcoming endeavors, whether they are spiritual or material. The Hermit reminds us that our goals can be attained, but the journey is not always smooth or easy."

I, uh. It's not quite as mismatched as River's? In that Trowa is silent and patient and willing to work for long-term goals no matter how hard it gets. But he doesn't have any living mentor figures, really, and he's about as relentlessly non-spiritual as it gets.

Clare got The Hierophant. Which "represents organized religious teachings," and indicates "a preference for ritual and ceremony. In part, this can be interpreted as a need for approval from others, even from society as a whole. The Hierophant indicates the importance of conformity."

Well, Clare is in the middle of a plot-arc in a holy city, where she pretends to be a pilgrim getting baptized and spends a lot of time lurking around a cathedral! So there's that?

But it doesn't really fit her personality. She's not big on ritual or ceremony, and her conformity to Claymore rules is mostly because being a Claymore suits her own ends. She doesn't hesitate to desert and strike out on her own when that changes.

Regan got The World, which "symbolizes completion. It is the card of freedom and liberation on many different levels, and indicates triumph in all undertakings."

...HAHAHAHAHAHA.

Okay, so in conclusion: we'll give the Clare a point for matching her current arc of canon so well, even if it mostly applies to the NPCs around her. Which gives me the great record of 1 accurate out of 5!
