Plot: Slender Man
Throughout the month of October, Milliways will be haunted. At first it's subtle--fog when and where there shouldn't be, strange new trees, small fires with no discernible cause, cold spots within the bar, feelings of paranoia, cases of insomnia. An abandoned building appears on the lake shore.
As the month progresses, people begin to see a strange figure in the trees. And then at the windows. And then in dark corners of the bar.
And then in their rooms.
This is a mod-approved, barwide plot, in which Milliways and its denizens will be haunted by Slender Man.
A bar-wide plot? Do I have to participate?
No. This is a voluntary plot for anyone who wants to have their pup(s) deal with the fear mythos. Please be aware, though, that if your pup talks to someone who is involved, it may come up in conversation. It's up to you if you want to have your pup feel any effects or not
What if I decide I want to participate during October?
If you don't sign up before October and then decide you want to participate after all, come back to this entry and sign up for stage 1, etc., depending on how much time is left in the month. Don't, for instance, expect to get to stage 4 on October 30th.
A month is a long time for a plot.
Yes, it is, but since it goes in stages I'm hopeful it won't get too tiresome before the finale.
Okay, I'm in. What do I sign up for?
Start with stage 1, and then decide if you want your pup to experience any of the higher stages. If you intend to participate in stage 4, please also sign up for 1, 2, and 3 so there's some build-up for your pup's final breakdown; and so on down.
I want to scare my pup but not participate in any violence. Can I keep to one of the lower levels?
Yes. Sign up for each separate stage that you want to participate in, so if you just want your pup to have sightings and bad dreams, don't sign up for weeks three and four.
If I want my pup to break down, what do I do?
Anything you want to. There will be some links at the bottom of the entry for the mythos if you want ideas from what's come before.
Will Slendy follow my pup home?
No. Not this Slendy, anyway.
I want to participate but not be haunted. What can I do?
If you want your pup investigate all this weirdness, have your pup research, talk to affected patrons, etc., or they can be one of the volunteers for the final confrontation with the Green Man.
Be warned, though: according to the mythos, the more someone knows about Slendy, the more likely he is to haunt them.
What are Slenderman's weaknesses?
Um...
He's impervious to weapons. He can teleport. He moves silently. He feeds on belief. He can wipe your memories. If you fall under his spell, you're helpless to do anything but walk into his arms.
He may be put off your scent if you think of things that make you happy, and he may be distracted if you offer him twenty dollars.
How will we know when we're in the next stage?
The Slender Man journal,
dont_turn_around, will make an entry into the bar. Participants can react to him in those entries or in their own threads as they so desire.
What's this about the Green Man?
I got the idea for this plot when I read that one of the theories about Slendy is that he's a tree impersonating a man. This upset my inner Green Man, who is a man-shaped tree and who considers Milliways and its forest to be under his protection. The entrance of a dark version of himself would be an awful thing.
So, because both Slender Man and the Green Man are connected to trees,
jack_inthegreen will be the point man. He'll be the first to notice there's something wrong with the trees, he'll connect anyone who's researching Slendy with people who are being haunted by him and vice-versa, and he'll find and lead those who volunteer to fight Slender Man in the final confrontation.
Volunteer to participate in the comments below. If you volunteer,
dont_turn_around will start showing up in your threads, doin' what he does.
Comments for week 4 will be screened. Suspense. La la. I will email those who volunteer to be proxies with the names of those who volunteer to be attacked or kidnapped. Be advised that if you sign up to be a proxy, there will probably be in-character consequences later. How severe that will be is up to you and Security.
The stages are:
Week one. Basic: fog drifts through a thread, cold spots appear in the bar, animals refuse to go into the forest. The Operator symbol starts appearing on trees, doors and walls.
Week two. Mild: Sightings of Slender Man begin in the forest. Small fires start for no reason. Patrons begin to experience nightmares, insomnia, paranoia, coughing ("slendy sickness"), unusual journaling urges.
Week three. Intermediate: Slender Man appears in the bar itself: he stands in corridors or in shadowy corners of patrons' rooms, walks past tables, or stands outside windows. (Not the Observation Window.) A mysterious building appears on the lake shore.
Week four. Severe: patrons are physically attacked by Slender Man, Slender Man drives patrons insane, patrons do his bidding by attacking or kidnapping other participants.
Halloween night: the final confrontation.
Once Slendy is disposed of, life in the bar will go back to normal. Well, as normal as it ever is.

Slenderman Stories
Tribe Twelve is my other personal favorite, but the wiki is less up-to-date, requiring some digging into the Twitter feed and some other social media feeds to really follow the story. It also crosses over to several of the other Slenderman stories, which makes it a little more complicated.
Don't watch these at night. Consider yourself warned.

And the first ten eps or so go really fast, like scary potato chips! Seriously this series is like if Blair Witch and Paranormal Activity had a baby.
