"Lassie! What's a fine upstanding gentleman like you doing in a place like this?"

... Yes, he's been waiting for this moment.

"Spencer, don't mess with me. I don't know what this is that you've cooked up here, but I know you're behind this somehow."

He doesn't trust Shawn as far as he could throw him.

He raises his hands. He's aware of the distrust, but he blithely chooses to ignore it. As usual.

"I don't say this very often, but you're giving me way too much credit."

"You're saying that you don't know what's going on here?" Carlton is skeptical as he's ever been.

"Oh, I know. I'm just saying it's not my fault you're here."

[actualdetective]

Carlton perks up for the first time since arriving.

"So you know who's in charge of all this? Who's to blame? Show me to them immediately!"

[psyched_you_out]

"Woah, easy there. I'm not sure who's the ringmaster in charge of this circus, but let's get something to drink and I'll explain."

He tosses an arm around Lassie's shoulder with his typical disregard for personal boundaries, and guides him over to the bar.

"One pineapple mango smoothie and a grande coffee."

He turns to Lassie as his smoothie materializes in front of them.

"You want cream and sugar?"

"You know I dropped the sugar and cream habit. Your cat shamed me."

He just admitted to having been shamed by a cat. This place is doing a number on his mind.

Well it WAS a lot of cream and sugar.

"Just black, then."

He pats the bartop as the requested coffee appears.

"Spencer, what are you drinking?" He waves that off. He doesn't want to know. "Never mind. Are you sure you didn't do something to land me here?"

"Pretty sure. People seem to show up pretty much at random."

He takes a long sip of his smoothie before he continues

"I mean, I didn't even expect to see you here."

"Everyone else is coming here now, why shouldn't I?" Carlton goes full on snotty. Like he's not special enough to be... here.
