New AIM crackchat issues

So, I has a shiny new laptop now, after committing involuntary manslaughter against my old one. I also has a new version of AIM which doesn't seem to allow me to get into crackchat.

Is there someone who knows a way I can either a) Get in via AIM or b) use some other chat program to do it?

I use Trillian myself, and right-click on the system tray icon and choose 'join chat', then give it the crackinthewall name. Don't know about AIM, unless you take the tack of adding yourself to your buddy list and then going to invite a buddy to crackchat.

That's how I self-invite on AIM, although you could also hit Alt-C (assuming you're on a PC -- I don't know the Mac shortcut) and type in your own name instead of whatever comes up. (Whoever you're already talking to or selected last on your buddy list, I think.)

If it's letting you self-invite but not actually letting you into chat, then opting for Trillian or some other program sounds like a better bet, unless AIM starts behaving. I've had connection issues where AIM kept kicking me out of chats or didn't let me in at all, usually when I go home to my parents' patchy wireless.

Yeah, I use Trillian as well, though it's an older version. (3.1, specifically.) I go the add-yourself-to-the-buddy-list route.
