DE: The Masks They Slide

Taking full advantage of West Coast time to throw this up while our East Coast friends might get a chance to comment before Frankenstorm Sandy hits.

What movie monster would your pup be? I originally was thinking classic Hollywood monsters but then it occurs to me there must be other equally awesome monsters out there from folklore and other cultures so go wild.

Already have a monster as a pup? Well, what sort of monster are they? Do they keep to themselves or hide in plain sight? Are they "heroes"? Do they protect humanity from monsters or monsters from humanity? Are they the chosen one, an accident of birth or a secret government experiment?

And for extra credit (from [personal profile] ladyoflorien ): Having trouble coming up with a transformation/costume for you pup? Tag in with them and let the masses decide!

Well, I, uh... kinda made up a little of the hurt? By which I mean BRB CRYING FOREVER but it had to be done?

(Claudia's getting a CWDP too, but that's not done yet and I can post it after-storm if need be. Red's, I thought, was more time-sensitive.)

Ahahahaha.

Lady Mary would be Medusa. Hair full of secrets snakes, turns men to stone, and, conveniently, one of three sisters.

(And it's doubly appropriate since in an early episode Mary relates the story of Perseus and Andromeda, casting herself as Andromeda. In addition to rescuing Andromeda, Perseus killed Medusa.)

John should be in the get up of a more Hollywood cowboy, someone like Jim Waco for that moment of wait, what is this? Or even make him an animated cowboy.

I did a variation on that to Will for his first Halloween, put him in the 1930s movie version of Will Scarlett which included tights and an awful hat.

Amascut objects; she is a monster slayer, the patron (maybe matron is more appropriate, if she can be considered motherly) goddess of monster slaying, in fact! (Well, that is what she thinks, at least)

Ummm... going to the extreme with the word classic, good ol' Ammit will have to do because she and Amascut are practically the same god-demon thing. There is a lot of Sekhmet thrown in, but lion-headed ladies aren't monsters, despite Amascut's shouting and yelling to the contrary.

I have zero ideas for costumes this year, though I do have an idea for an EP I think I'll likely go with. Still, I am so up for suggestions, whether it's just for the lulz or viable potentials. IDEAS PLEASE.

As for the other part:

  • Leela - [personal profile] eyeeyecaptain - The Bride of Frankenstein is my gut reaction (because can't you just see Fry as Frankenstein's monster? I mean come on). Morticia would also be awesome.
  • Porthos - [personal profile] srspirate - Igor. *cough* Or, not really a horror character, but: The Cheshire Cat. He can loom and mock you and say stuff that makes you wonder just how much he's imbibed.
  • Grace Augustine - [personal profile] donthidemycigs - Godzilla. She'd stomp around and eat all the little people who get in her way.
  • Renee Walker - [personal profile] whathastobedone - I have a hard time picturing Renee as monster. The closest I come is a siren - using the follies of men against them to lure them to their doom.
  • Ray Carling - [personal profile] flickedmethevs - Bond zombie. James Bond comes back from the dead, HIDE YOUR VIRGINS.
  • Lily Bell - [personal profile] maidenofthewest - La Llorona, or "The Weeping Woman." Though I'm trying to think of a classic villain who uses deception and charm to gain ultimate power. That would be fitting.
  • Zoë Washburne - [personal profile] someonetocarryyou - Again, having a hard time picturing her as a monster. Drawing a total blank.
  • Regina Mills - [personal profile] happilyneverafter - Well. She has that whole Evil Queen/Witch thing going for her.

[personal profile] missginnytonic 2012-10-29 08:13 am (UTC)(link)
Okay with what you were looking for with Lily Bell my first thought was Ursala...(don't ask)

Zoe, ummmm I dunno. I think she woudl be a pretty Monster Like a Veela1

Nahh Regina could do better. I think she would go as the wicked witch of the west and be a little tongue in cheek there :D

I... weirdly can't think of anything for Elle. And you'd think she'd be the easiest. There's certainly a trope for unwieldy electrically powered girls, but in terms of an actual monster, I'm not sure.

Manny is a grim reaper! Even if his spookiness is kind of overrated, as in his world it's pretty much a job like any other, except with a weird uniform. But you still get lines like "You can't hide from the Grim Reaper - especially when he's got a gun!"

Leslie did once call herself "Leslie Monster" when she was hallucinating due to having the flu. I tend to think if she were a monster, she'd be like the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. Or if the Energizer Bunny were a monster. Something like that.

I tend to play Asami as one heartbeat away from being a mad scientist, if that counts.

Aaand to-be-apped, but Marceline is a vampire! She doesn't have to hide - Ooo is filled with weird things, though vampires are still feared there ("if half the stories I've heard and/or made up are true, vampires will kill you!"). But she's also different from a lot of other fictional vampires, as she has a lot of powers (shapeshifting into any monstery thing/pyrokinesis/flight) and drinks the color red instead of just blood. But as her dad's a non-vampire demon dude, it's not clear how that all works exactly.

Aradia was a sp00ky gh0st at one point!

I also think she'd make a good mummy. I mean, she likes archaeology, on top of her death fangirl thing. You'd be hard-pressed to find a more archaeological monster! (In common use, at least.)

I just decorated my library and realized that I need more stuff. It's not a huge space but its big enough.

Charles would definitely be considered a monster by some people, its part of the whole idea of his canon. After all someone reading your mind is scary and mutant is kind of a byword for things going wrong.

Tumnus also in a different setting could be seen as a monster, half-man, half-goat.

Demeter is a god and a Greek god at that, though she would never call herself a monster, the amount of power she has is rather terrifying.

Sameth is a magician crossed with a touch of mad not scientist but engineer almost. His canon would work really well as a horror movie.

I could see what Moist does taken to an extreme and becoming a type of monster, he can disappear into any crowd and become different people. Yes, he's not shapeshifting but if a serial killer had his skills, it would be awful.

I don't really know about the others or what to do for costumes. Charles was going to have his first Halloween as possibly Tumnus but with Slenderplot, I don't think that will happen. I'd love ideas for any of them.

Will Scarlett
Charles Xavier
Sameth
William Evans
Jane Austen
Moist von Lipwig
Demeter
Tumnus
The Pirate King

So there's a villain in the 2000s run of Ms. Marvel called the Storyteller, who is able to make stories into reality. (I can't remember exactly how he can do this... I think there was genetic experimentation involved?) Anyway, though he's not the "traditional" monster, like you said with Charles, he could be considered one, and as Jane's a storyteller herself, I can see that working for her.

Hmmmm.

Yeah, I got nothing. Well, maybe Fluttershy would be a minotaur, but the only reason it's coming to mind is she's got that whole canonical "minotaur =/= monster" thing, so.

What monster would they be?
Yrael: He'd make a good Cat Sidhe. Or just about any spectral cat with interests in the Dead and the ability to bless or curse a family depending on whether or not they feed him. ^_^

Sunshine: ...No idea. Any suggestions?

Zelgadiss: Poor thing, he's already part-golem and part-demon. He feels he's enough of a monster already without turning him into another one. Perhaps he'd make a good Phantom of the Opera? He already has good experience making dramatic entrances and being enigmatic and (though on a usual day he's helping save the world from destruction) he's willing to be a bit evil to get what he wants. Though... his singing voice isn't that great and I don't know about his skill with a pipe organ - at least he's good with a guitar?

Feel free to suggest transformations/costumes for my pups.

*snerk* I'd have a hysterical, weeping, flailing baker on my hands the entire time. She'd not be able to cope with her absolute worst nightmares suddenly coming true.

Also, it'd give her a deadly allergy to the source of her power. Things would go downhill fast.

Really bad at ideas for this (re: costumes) - will think some on the monster-trope issue for mine. Zombie might actually be the closest for one or two of them...

Anyway. The only "costume" that comes easily to mind for my characters is turning Captain Jack Sparrow either into Edward Scissorhands (heaven help us all) or into Willy Wonka (bad for a whole LOT of reasons).
saphyria: (Tea makes evil people smile)

[personal profile] saphyria 2012-10-29 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
For a low-level costume-change, Captain Jack should totally be decked out (no pun intended) as Captain Morgan.

Frilly white shirt, red and gold coat with huuuuuge cuffs, bandolier/belt with pistols and sword, black trousers, big buckled leather boots with huuuuuge cuffs, red-dotted white bandanna on his head, and a huge red and gold hat, and a gold-edged blue cape. And a barrel of rum. Gotta have the rum.

I'd say Tommy would be a Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde type as he turns into a terrible, awful person when he's very drunk.

Either that, or a werewolf ragemonster that has no recollection of the violence he's done.

Hmm, this is dark.

Okay, on a lighter note, I would be sending Tommy into the bar on Halloween if not for the talking to dead people thing, because he is SO not ready to deal with that (and neither am I), but Bar would put him in Kiera Knightley's dress.

[personal profile] genarti 2012-10-29 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Talking to dead people, like costumes, is optional! The way it usually goes down is that if a character falls asleep within Milliways, and if the mun feels like it, they get an unusually real-feeling dream about talking to a dead person. It's a dream, but one that goes down more or less like that conversation might (without random dream-logic stuff, at least mostly), and doesn't feel like it was just a dream when the person wakes up.

Unless you mean that Tommy's not up to even hearing that other people had that kind of experience. Which is fair!

However: AHAHA THAT DRESS. Oh dear.

Clem's flat-out stated in canon that she wants to be a flying monkey. IDEK WHY but that's her designated monster du jour.

Dixie would be a succubus. Flat out, bar none, no questions asked.

Some segments of fandom would say Juliet would be a siren.

Pinkie'd be the most cheerful monster I can think of - The Toxic Avenger! Maybe the cupcake avenger?
