I don't think there is a magnetic pole for Milliways, and even if there is, Belar made the mountains so that they only have one side- if you climb the mountains and cross over you will come back down the way you went up whether you ever turn around or not. So if there's a magnetic pole, the compass is only going to get more and more confused the closer you get to the mountains.
Plus the garage under the Bar plays havoc with local space as well since it's big enough to house one of every vehicle depicted in fiction, and yes, that includes the Enterprise, so Lord only knows about what happens to your compass there.
Bing's the one who'd know best about what happens to compasses in the area, but those two things are items I know for sure.
I think it's lean more towards an compass not designed for Milliways space (and thus not a magnetic type) will throw its metaphorical hands in the air and say "Screw you guys!"
The canonical alternative was the PKE meter exploding from overload.
.... now I kind of want to see someone try to use a compass on Bar grounds and have it explode, along the lines of the Simpsons episode where Homer managed to set cereal on fire.
Well the whole reason I asked this question is because Hank is about to head outside to look for Charles pre-Slender Man wrap up, so I think I'll have the compass do just that. = ]
I like to think the compass would point up for north, but that's only because it makes me laugh.
This guy here tried to map the woods for a running path, but no matter how far he'd run he always ended up right where he left. Basically the Lake just repeats like a bad Hannah Barbera cartoon background.

... of course, Jack's compass is something of a special case anyway, so take that with as much salt as you like. :)

I'll collect more answers/opinions and speak with the Mods before deciding.

Having said all that, exploding would be awesome.
