Daily Entertainment

This morning, I tried to get up earlier than I did before the break and managed to make myself tea. I'm doing this as a way to try and be better about taking care of myself during the day with tea and food, but waking up while its still dark is hard.

What habits of theirs are your pups working to change or refuse to change? Variation of this, do your pups do resolutions?

Man, I have a lot of stubborn pups. Looking over my roster I end up with a lot of glares, and sometimes the pointed ashing of a cigarette. I'm looking at you, Dr. Augustine.

The only one I really have an answer for is Regina ([personal profile] happilyneverafter). She's still a ways from this point in canon, but she tries giving up her magic for the love of her son. This not only means giving up her power, but everything she's banked her happiness on. Magic has long been her source of security and self-worth (thanks, Cora), so being without it strips her of her confidence and her ability to defend herself, both physically and emotionally. It's worth it for Henry, of course. When he accepts her, shows her even a glimmer of love, Regina feels fulfilled. When she's shut out, left behind, discarded as not being "family", those old wounds rise straight to the surface and she doubts her ability to be whole or happy without taking what she needs.

It's an interesting -- but heartbreaking -- battle to watch.

No, I haven't yet. I DVR'd it, though, so I plan to catch it soon. From the trailer for this half-season they showed before winter break, I can tell it's going to be a really interesting ride for Regina this year.

(Which reminds me, I should amend that thanks, Cora, to include Rumpelstiltskin. :|)

Absolutely anytime, bb! Should I send you a new e-mail, or do you still have the old one?

Ack, sorry! SUPER DELAYED response but - a new email would totally be ideal. My inbox is kind of a big shitshow, so a fresh start would help!

I've been trying to think of an answer for this and none of my pups are speaking up.

Well, Jess sort of is in that she is going to have a paradigm shift soon of not defining herself so much on what happened in her past, but I don't think that is what you are looking for.

Oh no, your question makes total sense. I think it's just none of my pups want to admit they have habits they want to change or ones they refuse to change. ; p

Felix... well, he's actually stuck in slowtime at the moment because I haven't been RPing the last couple of months, but he's about to try to revamp his whole lifestyle, to bring it more in line with the elemental ideals of Earth.

I haven't entirely decided, but a big part of it will be settling down somewhere instead of wandering all over his world.

Iiiii'm going to answer this for Jess.

At the point I'm at in her canon, Jess is definitely trying to change the kind of outlook she has on life, post-breakup. Spencer is not the be and end all of her existence. She's essentially trying to find herself again.

And uh - judging by canon, sometimes it works. And sometimes it doesn't. And sometimes she just makes some really horrible and stupid mistakes. But she's learning!

I still love dorky-as-heck Paul Genzlinger as far as her post-Spencer relationships have gone.

He was awesome, even if he was weird - especially towards the end. Hahaha.

Bean doesn't do resolutions (or at least, if he does in the future, he hasn't told me about it!) As for habits, they're dangerous. He does his best not to form any (of course, that's a habit in itself).

My others, no, not really, but they're less vocal about it than Bean was. (I'll just be over here snickering at future!Jack).

Well...

If you've read the second book of canon, then you should know what I'm thinking of.

Otherwise: not saying zip. Spoilers.

Quite predictably, Mark is resolved to not be like his father. How successful he is at that depends on what your interpretation of that statement is.

Oh god, Tommy. Talk about NOT CHANGING, EVER. He would be the worst at resolutions, so that's not even an option.

1 - The drinking. At this point in canon, he has somewhat of a good hold on it, but an alcoholic is an alcoholic and there will be times when he'll slip. He makes the effort by going to AA meetings, except that deep down he thinks it's just for show and doesn't really get the deeper message. Part of what makes for a successful recovery is not just not drinking, but admitting the problem and sharing in the support. Tommy keeps denying that he has a problem and frankly can't stand everyone else at the AA meetings.

2 - The lying. Tommy is a compulsive liar. ("In with the air, out with the lie.") I think it's more of a defense mechanism rather than him lying for malicious intent. If he doesn't want to hurt you (because of something he's done, which will in turn make you hurt him possibly by punching him in the face or kicking him in the nuts), he'll say what you want to hear, which will probably be a lie. Of course he also lies to get what he wants, but it's not so much 'getting' as 'keeping.' It's like, "I have my job/wife/kids/etc. - what can I do/say to keep from losing everything because of my shitty behavior?"

3 - The shitty behavior. I...could really go on about this, but I won't. He has a temper that can lead to physical violence; he's self-centered, controlling, jealous, and spiteful. He can't change any of this, as it all seems to be wired into his DNA. Even if he does try, he'll fall back into his usual ways.

Aradia has kicked her habit of dying. And also of letting herself be steered around by voices; at first it was ghosts, later it was her own past and future selves.

Dr Thurlow's worst habit is pushing themself too hard. It's not so much the fact that they poke their nose into so many awful things that leads to them losing (and regaining) their sanity so often; it's more that they don't stop long enough to properly recover in between awful things, and they don't confide in other people enough to reduce the strain much. I don't know if they'll ever kick this habit; it would certainly be an uphill battle.
