Daily Entertainment: he doesn't look a thing like Jesus / but he talks like a gentleman

It's 1211 on Thursday morning and I'm still smoked from those hose drags on Monday.

Fuckin' muscular hypertrophy.

Today's DE is brought to you by - actually, it was suggested by both [personal profile] arrin and [personal profile] no_vampires_plz, so I'm just going to give both you guys credit.

In the world of Homestuck, every player of Sburb/Sgrub is given a title consisting of a class and an aspect (e.g. Seer of Light, Knight of Blood, Slyph of Space, etc.) The aspect is a metaphysical element for which the player has an affinity, while the class describes how the player interacts with that element and with their fellow players. Note that both the classes and the aspects carry connotations beyond the literal meaning of the word--the wiki pages linked above delve into this in more detail.

Given the information detailed in the Homestuck wiki, what would your pup's title be and why?

[personal profile] chanter1944 2013-01-10 12:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I couldn't get the full picture of aspects, as both wiki pages kept crashing both browsers I attempted to view them in (argh!) but I managed to read the whole of the classes page and at least part of the other. From that, I'm going to tentatively say Sariel is a rogue of space. I'm open to other interpretations, though.

Gaaaaaah, somebody tell me these l-o-n-g days get easier? Fucking work. I want to be a contributing member of the community, but at the same time, what the hell was I thinking?

Cam is wise but yeah, it takes serious adjusting. I still have some mornings when I feel half awake for a good part of my day. And you'll figure out time to do fun things as well as a part of self care is balancing your day.

Mine isn't perfect yet, I still haven't figured out lunch or outside social life but I've made progress.

Aradia is already the Maid of Time!

I came up with a Sburb title for Dr Thurlow (also their Fallen London PC buddies) like a month and a half ago on my Tumblr because my brain is a crucible of crossovers. Here's what I wrote then:
Dr Thurlow is the Rogue of Light. They’re driven primarily by the search for knowledge and information, and they despise censorship, which leads them to frequently pick the Ministry of Public Decency’s storehouses of banned books as the targets of their elaborate robberies. Also, as a CamChar, Thurlow is naturally predisposed to the sort of longwindedness and infodumping that is the curse of all Light players.
gavin62truck: (Tommy & Lou: duo)

[personal profile] gavin62truck 2013-01-10 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm inclined to call Tommy a Knight first and foremost because it's his job to protect others. He would either be a Knight of Rage, because, well, rage, which he has a lot of; or Blood, because the concept of unity ties in with the brotherhood of the FDNY, and also he's just really fucking emotional. That I should see him as a Knight of Blood is just a little amusing, because that's what Karkat is, and when they first met through T-minus, Tommy felt a kind of connection with the troll kid, heh.

And he would so totally be in a moirallegiance with Lou. Lou is harder to figure out. I would say either a Knight of Heart, or a Page of Heart, especially when dealing with Tommy (seriously, they complete each other). I have always thought that Lou was the heart and soul of the 62 Truck crew, its true essence, and Tommy's conscience, and in many ways his protector as well.

[personal profile] leeshajoy 2013-01-10 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
FWIW, it's an unwritten rule that no two players in the same game will have the same class or aspect, so if Tommy's a Knight, Lou wouldn't be one.

[personal profile] death_gone_mad 2013-01-10 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Amascut, I feel, fits more with Void than she does with Doom. Which is slightly amusing me, given her opposition in the past to someone who is nowadays called the Void Lord (its a weird name thing again). Class is harder to nail down, but I would say either Prince (which is weird because it is male exclusive, supposedly) or Bard (which is still weird for the same reasons). She doesn't exactly fit into knight either but that is the closest if you consider gender.

[personal profile] death_gone_mad 2013-01-10 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, I figured out why I was having trouble with this. It is because of Amascut's about face in the Second Age. Before then, she was clearly a Muse of Doom, but whatever happened at that time shifted her into a Void Princess. I am not familiar with Homestuck but somehow I doubt those kind of changes are allowable

Maybe she is a Muse of Doom pretending to be a Void Princess?

Val would seem to be a Mage of Time and Space. It seems like having a double aspect isn't allowed so yes I know this kind of breaks the rules but oh well. =D

Andrea would be a Knight of Heart.

Ben would be a Page of Hope.

Thalia seems to be a Maid of Rage.

Iiiiii am not familiar at all with the canon, but here are my closest approximations:

Sunshine: With her world's situation and what she's trying to do for it, Sunshine sounds most like she'd be either a Rogue or Knight of Hope. Hope is what her SOFs and the people of her community look to her for, and she knows they're the ones for whom she's fighting.

Yrael: Mage of Breath. With its connotations of " rising up... confidence, and rebellion," and its likely antithesis being Blood with its facets of unity, it fits perfectly the snarky Bright Shiner who chooses to go his own way and benefit himself.

Zelgadiss: ... I have no idea. Something of Light, with its connotations with fortuitous outcomes and knowledge.

[personal profile] a1enzo 2013-01-10 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Enzo's aspect is Heart. As a copy, he is pretty invested in being/knowing/defining his own self, while being aware of and not denying the parts of himself that he shares in common with his original. As the sprite who spends the most time in human form, he's also the most likely to actually have a literal heart at any given time.

Class is trickier. I will have to reflect further on this. Could any of the classes be described as "one who defends their aspect"?
leeshajoy: (Default)

[personal profile] leeshajoy 2013-01-10 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
The Knight class could potentially work that way. Or, given his Millicanonical role as a prophet, maybe he should be the Seer of Heart?

This is tricky and I'd love suggestions or other readings of my pups as I don't know if I've understood fully. I'm also still feeling half asleep.

Will is a Knight of Heart or maybe Rage.

Charles is a Seer of Mind. Though I could see Hope fitting him as well, but probably a better fit for Jean.

Sam is a Mage of Life.

Demeter is a Heir of Life.

William is a Page of Blood.

Tumnus is a Seer of Heart.

I'm not sure about Jane, Moist or the Pirate King. They don't fit into these as easily as the others.

Vanellope is the Thief of Space. Supposedly she's not meant to exist in the game, but she uses whatever underhanded means possible to carve out a role for herself. Her glitching could be seen as a literal "theft of space" as she yanks herself from one place to another.

Twilight is the Mage of Blood. The Blood aspect has connotations of affection and unity, echoing her role as the linchpin of the Elements of Harmony. The Mage class is one who "has a deep understanding of the aspect," and the whole premise of the show revolves around Twilight coming to understand the nature of friendship (and friendship is magic, after all!).

Luna is the Heir of Space. We've seen in canon that the Heir is protected by his/her aspect without actually needing to do anything. "The stars will aid in her escape," anyone?

Alyx is... actually the only one I haven't figured out. I'm pretty sure her aspect is Rage, but I dunno what her class would be. Any suggestions?

I've never been able to figure these out for my pups despite reading these articles repeatedly. The best I can do is pick possible Aspects for them, but their classes, meh... not so much.

Gordon's aspect is Hope, I know that for sure. He's always been kind of locked onto that and using it or engendering it in others whether or not he had any himself at the time. Role, meh, that I don't know, except that it's not one of the destroying ones because he has always believed very firmly that it's wrong to destroy hope in others even if it's grossly misplaced and you're not the damn Messiah. The possibility of the Lord class came up in a discussion the other night, whatever that's good for.

Shephard's... I'd originally considered Blood. I mean, the unity thing and all. On the other hand, the reason his handle is tiwazRegulator is because of an association with Tyr, the one-handed war god of laws and treaties dictated to the defeated party, who could not bring about peace between men. This points to Doom in the sense of rules and law and system structures. Class, I dunno. Mage, maybe.

The others I haven't really stopped to consider for very long, except that Ellen probably has Life going on and Mordin's got Mind all over the place.

Yes, I made some guesses for mine but the classes seem so tied to particular characters, its hard to make broader readings from them. I find the aspects fascinating and a little easier, the world building in Homestuck is interesting.

Hmmmm....

Felix, I think, is either a Knight of Light or a Knight or Page of Life. I once constructed an AU-thingy where he was a Thief of Life, but that was without a lot of the stuff the wiki now contains.

Fluttershy would be... possibly a Maid of either Hope or Heart.

I think Kain might be a Knight of Doom.

Ako is a Maid of something.

Life maybe. These elemental and peek into your inner most heart setups aren't very compatible between universes.

Moving on!

Janet wants to be a Knight of Space for size changing badguy smashygness. I... am less sure.

Everyone else is unwilling to play. Well, Robo might do something with Mind, but that's as far as he'll stretch.

Jack, I'm really not sure about. Probably Life.

Max is probably a something of Hope. Looking more, I'm thinking Mage of Hope.

Bean feels like he jumps around a lot, over the course of his series, at different points in time, he could well fit different classes and aspects, but ultimately, I think he's a Prince of Doom

Erik is another one I'm not really sure about either. He's either Light or Mind, though I think.

Nepeta has the canonical title of Rogue of Heart. As for the others:

Cordelia is I think the Sylph of Mind.

Andrew is the Mage of Hope.

Simon is also a Mage, I believe of Life.

Charlie is the Knight of Rage, although Witch is also tempting there.

Cavilo is the Thief of Heart.

Kali, despite the immediate Blood association, I think makes more sense as a Lord of Space.

Edits on further reflection

Strong Bad's least crappy fit that I can think of is Thief of Hope, stealing to benefit the self he believes in so strongly. Any better suggestions at all would be welcomed the hell out of.

Néo grows into the role of Heir of Heart, becoming surrounded by hir sense of self and, at the end of act 2 of hir canon, acting on it in a resolution to express hir real feelings for good or ill from then on (as when shi confesses hir attraction to Pippi and tells the Girl Posse to leave the two of them alone).

Hiro is a Mage of Mind, one with a deep understanding of logic, reasoning, and other active uses of the engineer hemisphere.

I'm not even sure The Cheat is a Hero in the S{bur;gru}b sense; Karkat identified him as one of SB's land-consorts. One bit of further reflection: the land would, obviously, be the Land of Playsets and Toys.

Max is almost certainly a Seer of Time, supporting and coordinating the Æon session.

Michael is a Bard of Light, one who allows or invites destruction via fate and is "equally likely to help or hinder his party" — which is to say, a ka-mai.

Ryûk is the Prince of Void, destroying through hidden knowledge.

Rukia's aspect is Doom, in both the senses of death (what she brings as a shinigami/Soul Reaper) and law (the Provisional Spirit Law that forbids her to kill Ichigo outright). If a Page can be female, then that'd be her ideal class, as representing her vast potential and her empowering Ichigo as a Knight (of Hope, I think).

Based on her powers, Jennifer would seem to be a Space hero, probably a Maid or Witch, but on a narrative level, her almost completely passive role in Aberrant's story, which nonetheless sets the 2008 metaplot in motion, would fit best as Muse of Breath.

I believe the Fool is a Bard of Light. Light being luck and Bard destroys through the aspect or invites destruction of the aspect.

For Brenton, the phoenix, I would say Mage of Life. Life because... well. Phoenix. Duh. And mage because he has a deep understanding of the aspect and knowing of it.

Like Cam, I can't figure out the class stuff enough to assign my characters, although I'm happy to take suggestions. But for aspect:

Trowa is Mind. Trowa is definitely Mind.

Clare is Heart. Also no question!

River, I considered a few things for. Doom? Hope, maybe kinda? And then I hit Blood, and I was sold. Blood it is.

Thor is either Life or Rage. I could go either way, but proooobably Rage, especially since the wiki outright namechecks him as a possible canonical allusion with lightning bolts and stuff for Rage.

And Regan, I'm honestly not sure. Suggestions welcome! She's not epic enough for most of these; I'm not sure what the aspect of "maintaining social appearances at all most costs" is.
aberrantangels: (Japanese cartoons are weird)

[personal profile] aberrantangels 2013-01-12 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
I envision River as a Mage and Thor as a Knight, but I'm not sure I could articulate my reasoning any better than it's done in the entry on classes. As with The Cheat, I'm not sure Regan's full-on Hero material, but she may be a Noble rather than a consort; I don't have enough in-depth knowledge of either Gundam Wing or Claymore to rule on the classes of the characters from those canons.
