DE: It's Just A Jump To The Left

Yeah, it's Monday! Okay that didn't work, I'm still not ready to face the day.

Anyway, [personal profile] boston_bruiser would like to know:
What're your guilty pleasures? What're your pups'?

ETA: As has been pointed out in the past and at present, the idea of guilty is a bit misleading, or annoying, so let's think of it as brain candy or some such. =)

Myself? Horrorterrors. I'll just leave it at that. Don't ask.

Amascut though? It's chocolate and marrentill.

Oh! Right! Redheads! Not so much guilty but they cheat at the whole attractiveness thing. >.>

Redheads and horrorterrors? Nah. Yuck. Redheaded horrorterrors? Nah, still ew. Redheads eating a horrorterror salad? Maybe.

Yrael? Has no guilt. ^_^

Sunshine? Has enough guilt that she doesn't want to talk about her guilty pleasures. (Specifically the one that is tall, dark, and underground during the day.)

Zelgadiss? Wine and music.

Me? Sleeping in, expensive vices such as specialty teas (specialteas!) and high-quality yarn.

I almost said you like Manic Pixie Dream Girls, but then only Katy Perry tries to fits that mold, occasionally. If you included Zooey Deschanel I'd have a stronger case.

Lily Allen is fun! I have no idea why last.fm started playing her songs at me since I stay away from pop, but I am glad her songs show up once in a while. Its just, Oh noes, my street cred! I am enjoying Lily Allen! Or something like that.

Twilight loves Doctor Whooves comics. She has every single issue hidden under her bed, and probably some horrendous self-insert fanfiction hidden under that.

I don't really like the idea of guilty pleasures since I hate ranking the things I like, but reality shows especially ones like Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, Top Chef and the Real Housewives are my brain candy shows. Also I'm somehow making it through today even though I didn't sleep last night. I tried but my mind was far too busy, but I'm getting done the stuff I need to.

For Will, its sweet things especially chocolate or unusual foods in Milliways because he knows that he can only enjoy them in Milliways. Hot water sometimes ends up in there but food is more key than warm water to him.

Charles doesn't like calling anything guilty, but there are certain types of thoughts that he knows he probably shouldn't enjoy listening to as much as he does. Watching someone's fantasies can be a nice way to relax, also he feels ever so slightly guilty for how he thinks about Erik at times. Mainly because he knows that he's made things difficult by being with Iris but he loves Erik's mind and the curve of his neck.

Jane enjoys writing and reading novels and doesn't care that they're not the proper sort of literature.

Moist doesn't like the idea of feeling guilty about anything he likes and so doesn't.

Sameth at times feels guilty for being in his workshop, this is because he has issues.

William's another who feels guilty for things that he really shouldn't like reading and resting at Milliways, because even though he knows that its not taking away from home, he still worries. As I said many, many issues.

Demeter finds guilt a stupid concept.

Tumnus, I can't think of one for him, perhaps working on his book instead of court research sometimes.

The Pirate King also ignores guilt because he's a pirate.

Yes, Cupcake Wars felt too contrived for me and I couldn't get into it like some others. There are so many cooking competition shows and many of them find new levels of stupid but are sometimes pretty. I've watched most of them at least once. Restaurant Impossible is good but I like Gordon Ramsay better than the other chef, who's nice but Ramsay just works for me.

[personal profile] ceitfianna 2013-01-14 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I really like Ramsay though its harder to find. One of the reasons I pay for BBCAmerica is that somedays it just reruns it for me and makes me happy. New American versions of it come out Fridays at 8 on Fox, but the older shows in Britain are better. He still cares and it really comes through but the American version doesn't let him shine as much. I hated Ramsay in Hell's Kitchen but in Kitchen Nightmares, you can see why he's compelling at least to me.

I just like him better than the guy from Restaurant Impossible who's of the same mold but not exactly. I actually like him better in Dinner Impossible when he had one task while restaurant change requires a different kind of touch. And its annoying me that I can't remember his name, he's Scottish and I got it, Robert Irvine. I appear to have many thoughts about this.
ceitfianna: (Hatter is bemused)

[personal profile] ceitfianna 2013-01-14 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I think he's good at a focused mission but Restaurant Impossible is too compact, they tried to take the Kitchen Nightmares form and make it even shorter. That really doesn't work for that type of show though its Irvine's schtick.

Kitchen Nightmares! OMG. I love that show. I'm not even ashamed when I tell people I watch it.

Its just good and I like Ramsay and how he clearly cares while being disgusted. BBCAmerica marathons it on Tuesdays and it makes me happy. You have a gift fic waiting for you on my journal.

One of the super-fun things about Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares is that Gordon Ramsay tends to really obviously take a shine to certain people - a waiter, or one of the chefs. Which is both a blessing, because he'll be really nice to them, and a curse, because he'll make them eat the food and give him a second opinion.
ceitfianna: (candy raspberries)

[personal profile] ceitfianna 2013-01-14 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yes, I love when he does that and the looks those people get on their faces as they eat.

He always sounds so amazed at the things people do to food, which I love. He's been doing this for years but he'll always find something that makes him go, this is new.

I don't have any guilty pleasures. If I like something I'll make it vocal, even if I'm aware others think it's ridiculous. I don't know. I really like the cheesy old Hanna-Barbera cartoons. Really just campy stuff in general. Don't try to tell me that Adam West isn't a better Batman than Bale because he so is. Maybe that?

As far as Joan goes, uh, I guess making her art films.

These days my guilty pleasure is reading ALL THE FANFIC. No seriously, my reading of fic has surpassed my reading of comics. So far behind in my comics, so far behind.
*weeps silently*

Mike, being shameless, doesn't have guilty pleasures. He has compulsions. Recently his main compulsion has been to subtly help Splinter and Sallie be SplinterAndSallie. He'll make too much food, or help keep the house just the way both of them like. Little things that leave them extra time to be with and think about each other.

Raph's is hot baths. Ridiculously hot baths. Spending the bulk of one's time in a place that has yet to invent hot running water means that bathing in water warmer than the ambient air temperature is a luxury and not a daily event. So when ever he gets the chance he goes through the lengthy process of hauling water, heating water, and then just soaking in said water.

Bumi might just be a little bit addicted to the romance novels he buys for Jinora as gifts.

Splinter has his stories too.

Ida's downtime consists of online Mah Jong tournaments.

Reading terrible, awful, no-brains-required celebrity gossip rags. Especially things like Celebitchy and ONTD. Oh, god. Once I get into that, I am never getting out. It's like Tumblr.

Also ... bad, out-of-my-age-range TV like Gossip Girl and The Vampire Diaries (and back before it was cancelled, Life Unexpected and Chloe King). Love it, can't help it!

Uuuuh. Also occasionally: bad music. Katy Perry and Taylor Swift are totally up there on my guilty pleasures list. I can't help it if Red really fit my groove last/this year, okay.

As for my pups ... well, Jess doesn't really have guilty pleasures. She kind of just comes out and says what she likes and if people ridicule her ... well, she's kind of used to it. haha.

Albus is starting to appreciate "bad" (low-brow, I guess?) fiction. He's been reading up on all the classics and he's at a pretty good level where that's concerned ... but now he's been getting into low-brow sci-fi and mystery and all that good stuff.

Ellen's got a thing for prewar comic books. Grognak the Barbarian, Captain Cosmos, and Drake Tungsten the Chrono-Cowboy, primarily, but anything from Hubris Comics will do just fine (although she's never actually encountered Hell's Chain Gang or the Vault-Tec comic tie-ins that were slated for late 2077).

Competence.

Which means I'm good with polished pop bands, as long as they don't pretend to be anything else.

Tyler has a thing for cheek bones, but that's way less of a guilty pleasure than the fact that he's starting to look fondly at occasional life and death situations.

I don't think Ako has any. She certainly isn't sharing them with me.

Robo has no guilt over his taste for pulpy, two-fisted radio dramas. (When you've seen most of the actual crazy special effects movies are kind of like watching ER with an actual doctor. The lower cost of audio effects makes accuracy much more achievable.
