In the event that Nemo is a problem

and for whatever reason I can't get online to officially close down apps at the end of the 10th, apps will remain open until I can actually close them.

In the event that Nemo is only a problem and I can't get outdoors but I retain power and Internet, then I'm closin' apps when February 10th is over, like I said earlier in the month.

Yaaaaaaaaaaay storms!

And you thought moving to a different state would help you.

(Today I am bringing a spare pair of undies, in case I get trapped in Manhattan.)

No, no, I'm good with this. Really. Living in Winthrop puts me under the flightpath for Logan Airport, which is the sound of my childhood; snowstorms like this are the weather of college, since I went to school in Cleveland, where lake effect weather patterns meant that the only winter we weren't up to our asses in heaps of scraped-up snow and ice was the winter it got so cold the Coast Guard had to send out icebreakers to keep Lake Erie navigable.

I have to say this...

Winter Storm Nemo? I think they should name all storms after Pixar characters!

And here's me thinking this is all being created by a new machine on board the Nautilus

I was thinking 'dude with a harpoon and a giant squid' myself when I saw the name. 'Course, the Weather Channel's been doing their very best to justify their storm names with figures in the public domain, which nobody actually believes. My guess is they came up with names they wanted to see and had an intern go through Wiki until they found justification for those names that fell outside the reach of copyright law.

The next storm up is Orko. It's supposed to be named after the Basque god of thunder. To the 99.95 percent of the American population that is not Basque and that does not study European pre-Christian mythology, that's the comic relief sidekick from He-Man.

Oh, and two storms after Orko, they've got Winter Storm Q coming. They're claiming it's named after the New York City subway line.

Ha, the only Basque gods I have heard of before are Mari and Sugaar (or Sugoi or Maju or whatever), and then only because the dragon Herensuge is on my family heraldry.
Edited (I just had to check the spelling. I knew Sugoi was acceptable but calling a god of storms Sugoi in this crowd may get looks.) 2013-02-08 23:06 (UTC)

Which Q will depend on the intensity of the storm, no doubt. If it comes through like it thinks it's God, go with Trek. If it sort of sneaks up on you and then hits you hard, it's James Bond Q.

Yeah, I thought about that one, too. And then figured it was too obscure.

Honestly, around these parts, when is anything too obscure?
